Cartoon Network brings “Black Dynamite” animated series to Adult Swim

Cartoon Network’s late-night Adult Swim block goes into lulls where it seems to bide its time between cool new ‘toons, over-hyped one-season wonders and new seasons of its stately franchises (still waiting on Season 5 of One of the Best Things on TV, The Venture Brothers), often filling the gap with live-action Dadaist crap by some guy who knows the Tim & Eric Awesome Show yayhoos. I’m not sure what category Black Dynamite, the animated adaptation of Scott Sanders, Michael Jai White and Byron Minns’ over-the-top 2009 blaxploitation-spoofing feature film, will fit into just yet — other than it is […]

FEARnet to add two-hour “Funhouse” weekend programming block

FEARnet — a multiplatform service dedicated to horror, suspense and thriller content currently available in more than 7 million American homes via its linear cable channel — is adding a new two-hour weekend programming block to that linear channel starting Saturday, Aug. 18, in which it will bring back a couple of animated favorites from the past, as well as air two live-action series — including one never seen before on U.S. airwaves. Dubbed “Funhouse,” the programming block is aimed at the Adult 18-34 demo, a group that other networks, notably Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim, have found success with by […]

“Hey, Apple!” The Annoying Orange is coming to Cartoon Network

What started out as just another web video for Dane Boedigheimer back in 2009 has built him a mini-empire, which will soon include a half-hour series on Cartoon Network. The Annoying Orange, which debuts at 8:30pm June 11, will showcase the verbose fruit who delights in tormenting his fellow foodstuffs with his intrusive high-pitched greetings like “Hey! Hey, Apple!” It’s all profoundly silly, and Boedigheimer — better known by his online handle Daneboe — knows it. Expanding the quickie shorts into episodes that will consist of two 11-minute segments has been a surprisingly smooth process so far, he says. It […]

7 Questions With … Phil LaMarr of The Hub’s “Kaijudo: Rise of the Duel Masters”

Phil LaMarr sure pops up in a lot of places. John Travolta inadvertently shot him in the face in Pulp Fiction, he brought many memorable characters to life — remember Jack the hyperactive delivery guy? — as a member of the original cast of MADtv, and has been a mainstay in voice acting for many years. June is turning out to be a busy month for LaMarr, as a new season of Futurama, on which he voices Hermes, comes to Comedy Central June 20, and a brand new animated series, Kaijudo: Rise of the Duel Masters. In it, he voices […]

Care Bears return to cuddle a new generation in The Hub’s “Welcome to Care-A-Lot”

It’s a good time to be a popular 1980s toy. With Transformers, G.I. Joe, Thundercats, The Smurfs, Pound Puppies and My Little Pony all enjoying resurgences on TV or the big screen, it was only a matter of time before the Care Bears came out of hibernation. Care Bears: Welcome to Care-A-Lot, which premieres 8am Saturday on The Hub, will transport young ones (and their nostalgia-loving moms) to a high-above-the-earth land where the belly-badge bears have all sorts of whimsical adventures. Old friends like Harmony Bear, Cheer Bear, Funshine Bear, Tenderheart Bear, Share Bear and Grumpy Bear are back, along […]

Hail, Brak! “Cartoon Planet” returns to Cartoon Network’s orbit

Cartoon Network is partying like it’s 1995-99 by bringing back one of its signature shows in a new setting. Cartoon Planet, which was an offshoot of the lovably bizarre Space Ghost: Coast to Coast, has been revived for Friday nights for an hourlong block during which it will introduce a selection of other Cartoon Network favorites. “You could get a Dexter’s Laboratory, you could get a Powerpuff Girls, plus a Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, plus a Dial M for Monkey,” says Stacy Isenhower, senior vice president of programming and scheduling for Cartoon Network (a.k.a. the lady in charge of […]

The Hub invites viewers to hoof it on over to the “My Little Pony” Royal Wedding

Before you assume that the one-year anniversary of Prince William’s marriage to Kate Middleton is the nuptials-related event of the weekend, make sure you take into account “A Canterlot Wedding.” For those not in the know, that’s the royal wedding between Princess Cadance and Shining Armor, equine characters in The Hub‘s popular My Little Pony revamp, Friendship Is Magic. Bridle attire is requested (of course), for the 1pm EST/10am PST ceremony. We were fortunate enough to receive our invite at the office this week. Here’s what it looked like:

In Disney XD’s “Ultimate Spider-Man” Adrian Pasdar IS Iron Man

Who wouldn’t want a second shot at playing Iron Man? Adrian Pasdar first got the chance in 2010’s Iron Man series for G4, but the property had been adapted from a Japanese series, so it was a challenge to make his lines fit the action. This time, Pasdar feels a bit more comfortable with the role of Tony Stark and his hero alter-ego, and will be making his first appearance in a series of episodes of Disney XD’s Ultimate Spider-Man starting this Sunday, April 22 at 11am ET/PT, as part of the network’s Marvel Universe block. In the episode, young […]
