“Psych” Recap: Bollywood Homicide

Shawn gives Abigail a tour of the police station, pointing out all of the key landmarks, places especially marked by his bravado. She also meets Juliet, which is an entirely awkward exchange as Jules struggles to sound casual. Luckily, Lassiter interrupts with an urgent police issue, the impending interrogation of a young Indian man whose girlfriends all suffer strange and mysterious accidents. Raj (the dreamy Sendhil Ramamurthy) believes that a curse is targeting every girl he falls in love with and putting them in mortal danger. His latest flame was nearly crushed by a runaway truck during a break from […]

“The Office” recap: The Meeting

Michael begins this week’s episode by calling Oscar into his office and asking his advice — as a gay man —about going in for a colonoscopy. After that, it’s easy to see why someone wouldn’t want to invite him to a meeting, so it’s no surprise that Jim has done his best to keep him out of a closed-door session with David Wallace. Upset that he has been excluded, Michael begins to worry that David is taking to Jim about replacing him as branch manager — which he is. But what Michael doesn’t realize is that it’s all part of […]

The music of “Glee”: Preggers

The fourth episode of Glee — which, by the way, has been picked up for a full season by FOX — didn’t provide much in the way of performances. We got a dance number, a snippet of a Celine Dion song (that is actually a Platinum Weird song) and an admittedly sharp version of a West Side Story number. But still we go on. We’ll start with Rachel’s take on “Taking Chances,” a song originally done by American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi and Eurythmics guitarist Dave Stewart in the band Platinum Weird, then done more successfully by Celine Dion.

“How I Met Your Mother” Recap: Definitions

By Mike Frey Synopsis: Two big events are taking place as we catch up with the HIMYM gang: Ted’s first day of school and “the talk.” Well, the first one’s happening. After dating all summer, Barney and Robin tried to have the talk but the talk sucks. While they’re fine with putting it off, Lily isn’t. She tries everything she can to force them into defining their relationship. When even a date between Robin and Brad — and a Kiss Cam punch by a jealous and very overmatched Barney — fails to do the trick, she locks them in a […]

“The Office” recap: Gossip

Since Michael Scott begins Season 6 doing parkour — “the Internet sensation of 2004” — with Dwight and Andy, it’s no surprise to find out that he’s behind the curve on another pop-culture phenomenon: gossip. As the Scranton branch’s summer interns complete their last day at Dunder Mifflin, a rumor spreads that two of the three are dating each other. (Their names aren’t important, so we’ll just call them Jet Li, Julia Stiles and Alan Thicke based on their almost unnoticeable resemblance to those actors.) Everyone knows about it except Michael, who feels left out — that is, until he […]

Chevy Chase talks about his first sitcom, NBC’s “Community”

Comedy legend Chevy Chase is part of a fine cast that could propel the new sitcom Community, premiering Sept. 17 on NBC, into one of this season’s hits. Joel McHale stars as a fast-talking lawyer whose B.A. degree turns out to be bogus, so he is forced to enroll in a local community college to get a real one. He creates a phony Spanish study group hoping to be alone with an attractive woman in his Spanish class, but ends up drawing in not only her, but also an unwanted, diverse group of other students who hope to better their […]

The music of “Glee”: Acafellas

Last night’s episode of Glee brought three new musical performances and we’re going to examine each one to see what worked and what didn’t. (If you don’t want to take our word for it, all three performances can be seen in the full episode video that appears at the end of this post.) We start with the original lineup of Acafellas doing “Poison” by Bell Biv Devoe (aka BBD, as in “Boyz II Men, ABC, BBD: East Coast Family”). First of all, who doesn’t love this song, at least ironically? That said, the performance — outside of the boy-band swagger […]

Catch a sneak preview of “Archer” Thursday on FX

The new animated comedy Archer won’t hit airwaves until January, but FX is offering a sneak preview Thursday at 10:30pm ET/PT, immediately following the season premiere of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The network had originally scheduled Archer for a fall premiere, but production schedules have forced it to move to early next year. This will also make it possible for FX to allow another new comedy, The League, to bow in late October (time and date TBD) during football season. The League follows a group of fantasy football junkies who try to juggle their everyday lives with their gridiron […]

“Hung” Recap: A dick and a dream; fight the honey

By Stacey Harrison It almost seemed odd this being the season finale of Hung. Didn’t really feel like it had been building up to much. Not like True Blood or anything. But it does get down to some serious business in this last half-hour, starting off with Tanya absorbed in a copy of The Power of Positive Thinking. Her mellow is harshed by an infestation of flies in her home, an infestation she makes into a literary metaphor for her life turning in to dead meat. She’s so upset that she rushes out in the middle of the night to […]

“Family Guy” cast appears on new “Actors Studio”

By Jeff Pfeiffer A few years ago, Bravo’s Inside the Actors Studio brought on the voice cast of The Simpsons for a very memorable interview, with each cast member alternating between his or her real identity and animated alter-ego. Things should be similarly entertaining in a new Actors Studio this Monday, September 14, when Seth MacFarlane, Alex Borstein, Mike Henry and Seth Green (pictured left to right) talk to host James Lipton as both themselves and their respective Family Guy characters. Sorry, Meg fans (if there are any) — Mila Kunis will not be there. But we can expect to […]
