Donny Deutsch, TV’s rogue prince, satirizes the media in his soft-scripted comedy, Donny! premiering Tuesday on USA Network. The media mogul, author, former TV host, and current TV business commentator and general raconteur plays a hyper-fictionalized version of himself and casts a satirical eye on the media, wealth and modern romance. It was just past the first day of winter in New Zealand when I arrived at a location called Riverhead, just outside of Auckland, to begin watching the filming of the new Starz series Ash vs Evil Dead, which airs Saturdays beginning Oct. 31. Coming from the northern U.S., I didn’t find the weather to be quite what I was used to as “winter.” It was very pleasant: sunny, temps in the high 50s, low 60s Fahrenheit. Traditions in the Villanueva family are very important. That’s why, in this week’s episode of Jane the Virgin, everything needs to be in place for Mateo’s baptism. In a nice coda to yesterday’s Back to the Future Day, Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd showed up in character as Marty McFly and Doc Brown on Jimmy Kimmel Live. The duo burst onto stage during Kimmel’s monologue in their famed DeLorean time machine, arriving from the year 1985, and exited the car to a standing ovation from the crowd, Marty in his trademark vest and Doc in his hazmat suit.
