Samantha Bee mocks “sausage fest” of late-night TV scene in teaser for her new TBS series

At the Turner Upfront presentation this morning, during the TBS portion, a teaser for former Daily Show correspondent Samantha Bee’s upcoming late-night, issues-oriented series poked fun at the preponderance of men on the late-night TV scene. The teaser finds Bee at an art gallery, looking at pictures of hosts like Seth Meyers, Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, Carson Daly, John Oliver and newcomer James Corden. Bee admits that she likes looking at each picture individually, but upon stepping back, it seems to her like something is missing. Driving home the point that late-night TV is basically a “sausage fest,” a waiter appears with a huge […]

HAPPYish Episode 3 Recap

Last night’s episode of HAPPYish revolved around death. And God. But mostly death. It was … fun. Okay, so remember Dawson’s Creek? That show was huge when I was in college, and I found that at my upscale, super-preppy college, people would watch that show and then go to their (elective) film study or philosophy class, and would weave their very limited knowledge into a weird tapestry of words a la Joey Potter (Katie Holmes’ character), and then sit there smugly in their Abercrombie vests, feeling smarter than the rest of us, after basically saying nothing in very big words. […]

Watch: Key & Peele new musical short “Negrotown”

Key & Peele will be back with new episodes on Comedy Central starting July 8. Ahead of that, today Comedy Central released a musical short from Key & Peele called “Negrotown.” As you can tell from its controversial title, the video tackles tough subjects and speaks hard truths about racism and police brutality amid its catchy tune and bright presentation of a fantasy world juxtaposed with a bleaker real world. It’s reminiscent of old Hollywood musical numbers, except where those films of the 1950s rarely had people of color in them (and this video parodies how the few African Americans […]

Jane the Virgin Chapter 21 Recap: Just Like Old Times

There’s only one more episode before the season one finale of Jane the Virgin and I’m not sure how I’m going to be able to handle Mondays without it. Either way, I’m going to make sure to enjoy these last two episodes of the show since I know they’re going to be filled with lots of drama. Just how I like it! Jane’s known for planning everything out in her life so there are no surprises. That’s why when something as crazy and unplanned as becoming a pregnant virgin popped up into her life, she didn’t exactly know where to […]

HAPPYish Episode 2 Recap

HAPPYish is starting to grow on me even more. There wasn’t quite as much of the profanity for profanity’s sake tonight (just the right amount of vulgarity this time around), and it had some dark comedic moments that kept me glued to the screen. Episode 2 starts like episode 1, with a rant and a middle-finger-salute, but this time from Lee, the lead female role on the show (Thom’s wife). The rant–and much of the episode–focuses on Lee’s mother, “Mama,” who is a “sh*tty mom.” Perfect moms like Carol Brady (subject of aforementioned rant) only made Lee resent Mama that […]
