TCA: Ben Stiller brings Another Period, Big Time to Comedy Central

Ben Stiller was on hand at the Television Critics Association press tour on Saturday to present two upcoming Comedy Central series executive produced by his Red Hour production company. Another Period, which debuts this summer, is a sort of Downton Abbey for for people who loathe Downton Abbey — messy, ribald and hilarious, but also surprisingly well researched. Series stars Natasha Leggero and Riki Lindhome, who created the series from a short film with the same premise, spent time in the show’s Newport, R.I., to get a feel for the era and setting in which their turn-of-the-century socialite sisters Lillian and Beatrice Bellacourt lived. The series also stars Paget Brewster […]

“The Late Late Show” host James Corden charms

The 36-year-old Brit James Corden was nothing short of charming (and funny) as he talked to critics about his new CBS venture — The  Late Late Show With James Corden, which begins March 23 on CBS. Corden took the stage at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour in Pasadena in January and said he had no true blueprint for what the show will be yet, however, he’d “love to make a warm show that’s really funny.” Shouldn’t be a problem. Corden was humble in acknowledging the incredible opportunity he’s been presented with, and admitted that we was already feeling […]

She luckily passes a drug test while in the big house and her PO gets her out and gets her a job working at a diner. Lip, struggling with college life and juggling family drama, finds a sugar mama […]

HBO Girls Season 4 preview
Comedy

Will smarter “Girls” be just as fun?

“This season of Girls is the girls making smarter choices and realizing that life is still hard,” says Lena Dunham of her hit HBO comedy, which returns for Season 4 on Sunday, Jan. 11, at 9pm ET/PT. Smarter choices? This is still Girls, right? Season 4 finds Hannah (Lena Dunham) trying to prove herself as a writer and struggling with critical peers at the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. Her love for Adam (Adam Driver), who has become a selfish diva since landing a Broadway role, complicates things. Marnie (Allison Williams) has a burgeoning music career and romance with Desi (Ebon Moss-Bachrach). […]

Archer Season 6

“Archer” redecorates for Season 6 on FX

Big changes are in store for Sterling Archer (voice of H. Jon Benjamin) as animated spy comedy Archer returns for Season 6 on FX Thursday, Jan. 8, at 10pm ET/PT. Season 5 dropped two big bombs on Archer, as Malory (voice of Jessica Walter) was discovered to be working for the CIA and Archer was discovered to be the father of Lana’s (voice of Aisha Tyler) baby. The International Secret Intelligence Service (ISIS) name will get thrown out this season due to the agency’s office redecoration and some unfortunate real-world events. In the Season 6 premiere, “The Holdout,” Archer must […]

“Some people have it all figured out. These are not those people.” HBO’s Togetherness

Fans of Mark and Jay Duplass’ quirky indie favorites Cyrus, The Puffy Chair and Jeff, Who Lives at Home understand just how well the brothers know their way around a family-centric, struggling-suburbanite tale. So it’s no surprise that the trailer for the pair’s first ever TV series, Togetherness (premiering Sunday, Jan. 11, at 9:30pm ET/PT on HBO), features two simple lines of text: “Some people have it all figured out. These are not those people.” If your immediate reaction is “Amen, brother, er, brothers!” — and if it isn’t, who ARE you? — well, that’s the foundation on which this […]

Girlfriends Guide to Divorce recap: “Leave Childishness to the Children”

In last night’s episode of Bravo’s Girlfriends Guide to Divorce — “Rule #21, Leave Childishness to the Children” — we learn that older isn’t always wiser, three can indeed be crowd and every mama keeps at least a couple secrets to herself. As she deals with belligerent teen daughter Lilly and a mouthy literary rival named Cleo, Abby (Lisa Edelstein) does manage to score one in the win column. While racing through her neighborhood mini mart for a tube of sunscreen, she runs into the studly roadblock that is Will (Warren Christie), her dance club manager hookup from episode 1. She once again rebuffs him, but he insists […]

24 Hours of A Christmas Story simulcast on TBS and TNT for first time

In 2014, Turner Networks is airing its 18th annual “24 Hours of A Christmas Story” programming event starting Christmas Eve at 8pm ET/PT and continuing until 8pm on Christmas Day. The running of the beloved 1983 film for 12 consecutive showings has become a holiday tradition for many; so much so, that this year, along with its usual airing on TBS, the marathon will also be simulcast on sister network TNT for the first time. This marks a homecoming of sorts for the film on TNT; when Turner Networks started this marathon in 1997, it originally aired on TNT before […]

Girlfriends Guide to Divorce Recap: “Rule 426: Fantasyland: A Great Place to Visit”

Before I get started on this week’s Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce recap, I want to pose a few questions, based both on reactions to the show around the office and around the web. How many of you never-divorced folks are still tuning in? If not, why not? And how many of you (especially you ladies) who have been through the uncoupling ringer recognize every emotional gut-punch Marti Noxon puts in her scripts — regardless of these women’s income, lifestyle and social standing — and find the show refreshingly honest and cathartic for it? And, given that, how odd is it […]

The Coworkers’ Guide to Girlfriends Guide to Divorce episode 4

In which Ryan Berenz (11 years into Marriage No. 1, two preschool boys) and Lori Acken (nine years into Marriage No. 2, four grown kids) debate a few quagmires revealed in Girlfriends Guide to Divorce Episode 4 “Rule 426: Fantasyland: A Great Place to Visit.”  • Is Fantasyland a great place to visit? Lori: Given that my fantasies currently involve stuff like a 92% raise, black pants with no cat hair and just one flat surface in my house staying crap-free for more than an hour … I’m willing to go there. Fantasies one hopes will completely change one’s life? The distance between entry and exit is always […]
