On “Chapter 5” of Jane the Virgin, we start off by going back in time to Jane’s 21st birthday party. It’s a normal 21st birthday party where the birthday girl and her guests are getting hammered — although in this party, the birthday girl’s mother is getting drunk too. There’s a knock at the door and it’s a young Michael in his cop uniform. He and Jane share what’s called a “significant encounter” in telenovelas, which is the first encounter between two people who are meant to be together. We return to Jane the Virgin with “Chapter Five” and Jane leaving her mother’s house. Jane’s still upset that Xo hid Rogelio’s identity from her and decides they can’t live under the same roof. This may be a bit dramatic, but Jane is headed off to Michael’s house and they are going to get married in a week. So not too dramatic.
