TCA: Dean Geyer and Jacob Artist join “Glee”

As FOX’s hit series Glee enters its fourth season this fall, it will be back to school for newcomers Dean Geyer (pictured bottom) and Jacob Artist (pictured top) as they join the show when it returns on a new night — Thursday, Sept. 13, at 9pm ET/PT. In the season premiere, Rachel (Lea Michele) lands in New York City to attend NYADA and meets Brody Weston (Geyer), a handsome upperclassman who shows an interest in her. Meanwhile, back at McKinley, Puck’s (Mark Salling) bad boy younger half-brother, Jake Puckerman (Artist), tries out for the glee club, but his attitude […]

Cartoon Network brings “Black Dynamite” animated series to Adult Swim

Cartoon Network’s late-night Adult Swim block goes into lulls where it seems to bide its time between cool new ‘toons, over-hyped one-season wonders and new seasons of its stately franchises (still waiting on Season 5 of One of the Best Things on TV, The Venture Brothers), often filling the gap with live-action Dadaist crap by some guy who knows the Tim & Eric Awesome Show yayhoos. I’m not sure what category Black Dynamite, the animated adaptation of Scott Sanders, Michael Jai White and Byron Minns’ over-the-top 2009 blaxploitation-spoofing feature film, will fit into just yet — other than it is […]

MeTV and Antenna TV also honor Ernest Borgnine

Ah, those sentimental folks over at MeTV and Antenna TV. Gotta love ’em. And you’ve gotta love the fact that each network is remembering Ernest Borgnine in its own special way. MeTV goes first, airing the 1964 movie McHale’s Navy this Saturday, July 14 at 5pm ET. (Thank God they’re not airing the 1997 revisit.) The film — spawned by the popular series that still airs in syndication today — finds the crew of PT-73 in a pickle when they back a losing horse in a race, then don’t have the scratch to pay off the winners. Then, Sunday, July 15 starting […]

VOD Spotlight: The gang returns for more “Pie” in “American Reunion”

There’s almost always a risk in going for the second or third sequel in a film series. Audiences have become jaded against the quick cash-in, and are quick to anticipate a depreciation in quality. But it’s been nine years since we last checked in with the American Pie gang, and it’s safe to say that things aren’t going to be the same for most of them. In American Reunion, we’re brought up to date with what’s going on in the lives of that randy bunch, now in their 30s. Writers Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, who penned the Harold & […]

Barry Williams and Danny Bonaduce battle “Bigfoot” — and each other — in a Syfy original

It’s been kind of a ’70s flashback week here at Channel Guide. One of my compatriots, Lori, got to finally interview her teenage crush Leif Garrett, while I got to screen Syfy’s latest original movie, Bigfoot, which casts Barry Williams of The Brady Bunch and Danny Bonaduce of The Partridge Family. And in a way, the film somewhat resembles, in plot, anyway, one of those ’70s “nature strikes back” movies that had an environmental message. Of course, it’s filled with the usual Syfy cheese, too. Bigfoot takes place in Deadwood, South Dakota, where Bonaduce plays an obnoxious radio host (not […]

Matt LeBlanc shines as Matt LeBlanc in Showtime’s “Episodes”

Many actors struggle to find consistent work after appearing on hit TV shows, but Matt LeBlanc seems to have come up with the perfect blueprint for how to avoid the dreaded typecasting pitfall. First, you try a spinoff as that same character — as he did with Joey after Friends ended its reign — and when that doesn’t work, you find a show in which you simply play yourself. The second time is apparently the charm, because LeBlanc not only received a Golden Globe for his performance in the hit Showtime show Episodes, but he is now on one of […]
