“Sons of Anarchy” recap: “Darthy”

I’m just waiting for someone to assemble a clip of Jax raising his voice this season of Sons of Anarchy. The guy’s been like a virtual grunge song these past few episodes, growling quietly as he tries to tell people he is methodical and ruthless, and means business, then all of a sudden YELLING VERY LOUDLY  to tell them he’s pissed. Yeah, it’s pretty much been since Opie got killed, so maybe that makes sense. He’s got plenty of reason to shout this episode as well, as things come to a head with Clay much sooner than he expected, and […]

“Sons of Anarchy” recap: “To Thine Own Self”

After sitting out last week’s episode, Nero is back in something fierce this week. On what is supposed to a happy occasion — the opening of his high-class escort/porn operation with the Sons — he finds his old crew paying him a visit. And it’s not to congratulate him on a new venture. They don’t like the idea of their old compadre moving on to bigger and better things, and they want a little taste, in the form of some guns to help defend themselves in their neverending turf wars. Nero is dead-set against it, but Jax talks him into […]

“Days of our Lives” to broadcast a memorable 1997 Eileen Davidson episode this week

On the heels of Eileen Davidson’s return to Days of our Lives as longtime fan favorite Kristen DiMera, the long-running NBC daytime drama will dig into its archives and take viewers back to one of the villainess’ most memorable Days episodes to date, airing it this Friday, Nov. 23, as a day after Thanksgiving treat. The episode — originally telecast on June 24, 1997 — involves John’s (Drake Hogestyn) wedding to a Kristen impostor. Meanwhile, Marlena (Deidre Hall) and the real Kristen (Eileen Davidson) are still unconscious in a secret room where evil mastermind Stefano (Joe Mascolo) is holding them […]

Lizzie Brochere, Franka Potente dish on “American Horror Story: Asylum”

It’s been a fun ride so far on American Horror Story: Asylum, which succeeded immediately in making us all forget the first season’s storyline and concentrate on the madness going on at the Briarcliff institute in 1964. Yes, some actors from the original run have returned — notably Jessica Lange as Sister Jude, Zachary Quinto as Dr. Thredson, and Evan Peters as Kit Walker — but the new blood among the cast has helped set it apart. Two of those additions, Lizzie Brochere and Franka Potente, spoke with reporters recently about their roles, where the story is going, and what […]

“Sons of Anarchy” recap: “Crucifixed”

It’s getting that time of the season when the “previously on Sons of Anarchy” segment is taking up a noticeably large amount of time. With all the shenanigans going down, there’s a lot of ‘splaining to do, especially when you have a super-sized 90-minute episode that picks up so many threads from stories that stretch back for seasons. That said, “Crucifixed” is one of the more brutal stretches the show has ever put us through. Oftentimes I won’t remember a given episode by title, but with “Crucifixed,” I’ll never forget it. You’ll know why by the end. We pick up […]

Science airs “Browncoats Unite,” commemorating 10 years of “Firefly”

Not many shows that were canceled after half a season — during which some of the episodes weren’t even aired in the right order — are celebrated 10 years later. But Firefly has stood the test of time, attracting a devoted following that was strong enough to spawn a successful big-screen adaptation, 2005’s Serenity. The fans, who call themselves Browncoats in honor of lead character Malcolm Reynolds’ past as a rebel soldier, will want to be glued to their TVs tonight at 10 when Science presents Browncoats Unite, a 10th anniversary special commemorating the show. It will include footage from […]

“Burn Notice” returns to USA with two-hour fall premiere

It is fitting that Burn Notice has its own comic book version, because there is something wonderfully campy about both the dialogue and action scenes in the USA Network drama — which returns tonight in a two-hour fall premiere at 9pm ET. Anybody who watches Burn Notice for the plot is probably tuning in for the wrong reason. Sure, there are some outrageously fun storylines to give the show some structure, but they merely serve as stage for a ton of explosions and what could be the most underestimated cast on all of television. It all begins with Jeffrey Donovan, who, […]

VOD Spotlight: “The Amazing Spider-Man” a different take on the legend

Some might have asked why the Spider-Man franchise needed a reboot, since it wasn’t all that long ago that the web slinger’s story last appeared on the big screen. But this being the 50th anniversary year for Spidey, what could herald the event bigger and better than a major film release like The Amazing Spider-Man? This time out, Andrew Garfield stars as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, and Emma Stone plays his love interest — who, in this film, is not the Mary Jane everyone has come to expect, but Gwen Stacy, Peter Parker’s first love, and his first real connection out in […]
