Recap: The Royals, Episode 2

Recap: The Royals, Episode 2. To quasi-formally get over the grief of Robert’s death, the British Royal family decided to throw a Garden Party. I had no idea what this was either, but in my observation, everyone gets drunk while wearing hats. And then they hook up. How very proper. Totally Quotable: “FML” may become my favorite thing to say, usurping OMG. Twinsies? Doesn’t Cyrus look like Robbie Rotten from the kiddie show Lazytown? I even made a very poor-quality side-by-side of the twosome. It’s utterly uncanny! Cyrus looks more like Robbie Rotten than the guy who plays Robbie Rotten! OMG […]

The Lizzie Borden Chronicles: Christina Ricci returns with a vengeance in campy new Lifetime series

Lifetime’s new limited series The Lizzie Borden Chronicles premieres Sunday, April 5 at 10/9CT. In January 2014, Lifetime took a proverbial whack at bringing the sordid tale of Lizzie Borden to a new generation of horror fans with its original film Lizzie Borden Took an Ax. Starring Christina Ricci as the parent-dispatching Lizzie and Argo’s Clea DuVall as her obedient sister Emma, Lizzie was a bloody good time and a ratings killer, luring 4.4 million viewers on its way to becoming cable’s second-most-watched original film of the year. A few months later, the network approached Ricci with another idea — reuniting with […]

The Last Song: Glee Series Finale

After six shocking, touching and groundbreaking seasons, FOX’s beloved musical comedy Glee comes to an end tonight. The series chronicled the lives of a talented group of outsiders as they came together in their high-school glee club, followed them as they ventured post-graduation beyond the halls of McKinley High to the bright lights of New York and then came full circle as they returned home to Lima. In tonight’s two-hour finale, Glee goes back in time to find out why the original members of New Directions initially signed up for glee club. Then, the show flashes forward to see how the character’s […]

American Crime Episode 3 recap

In American Crime Episode 3, a little progress on the case at hand developed, but we mainly learned further backstories among most of the characters. Family played an especially important role in the episode, as we got to meet Aubry’s stepfather, Carter’s sister and Alonzo’s brother-in-law. The episode opens with Alonzo (Benito Martinez), for all intents and purposes, alone in the house. Although Jenny (Gleendylis Inoa) is there, she ignores her father’s attempts to speak to her. We can tell that tension hangs heavy in the Gutierrez household in the wake of Jenny exploding at her father in last week’s episode, […]

We talk Lifetime’s If There Be Thorns with Heather Graham!

If you were among the nearly 10 million total viewers who tuned in last year for Lifetime’s film adaptations of the V.C. Andrews cult classic novels Flowers in the Attic and Petals on the Wind, prepare yourself for an April shower of Dollanganger goodness. Or Dollanganger badness — which is really what makes the films such escapist fun. The network will debut the next two installments, If There Be Thorns and Seeds of Yesterday, on back-to-back Sundays this month. Heather Graham reprises her role as family matriarch Corrine Dollanganger Foxworth Winslow in Thorns; otherwise the films feature new casts fleshing out the […]

Jane the Virgin Chapter 16 Recap: Who’s to Blame?

On Chapter Sixteen of Jane the Virgin, Jane seems to be focusing all her time and energy on how Rafael has changed since she turned down his proposal. He seems to be distancing himself from her, which would make any girlfriend upset — especially one who is pregnant with their boyfriend’s child. Jane tries to distract herself from her current relationship situation by getting back to her writing. Her romance novel seems to be off to a great start until Jane gets writer’s block. Luckily, Michael gives Jane the idea to join a writer’s workshop hosted by one of her […]

Recap: Better Call Saul Episode 7 “Bingo”

The further we get into Season 1 of AMC’s Better Call Saul!, the harder it’s becoming for me to accept the inevitable: That Jimmy McGill will become Saul Goodman, that everything won’t turn out just fine for our intrepid hero and his damaged brother, that Jimmy won’t get the girl and the corner office. He’ll get a visor, a name tag, a complex and a handful of dough in Nebraska. Jimmy is no Walter White in Matlock’s clothing, i.e., a good guy in a terrible spot driven to do awful things for a very good reason — who discovers that “bad” […]

Recap: The Royals Episode 1

Tonight we coronated a new king and celebrate the ascension to the crown of a new royal family. They may be fake, but I still wanna wear their crowns, drink their wine and party in their excess. They’re like a Lorde song come to life! E’s first foray to scripted drama (although to me, the drama on Keeping Up With the Kardashians has seemed scripted since day 1) and this fictional fairy tale comes from the master if witty repartee, Mark Schwahn, who also created One Tree Hill. In The Royals Episode 1, the heir to the British Throne, Prince […]

Shameless Season 5 Episode 9 recap: “Carl’s First Sentencing”

Last week on Shameless Carl set Chuckie up for a nice fall. Er, should I say Frank convinced Carl to set Chuckie up for a nice fall that Frank himself called in to get his revenge on overbearing control freak Sammi. Here’s what happens this week on Shameless Season 5 Episode 9: “Carl’s First Sentencing” Frank: Back at the hospital for a checkup on his arm his doctor flips out and runs out of the room. Frank chases after her and she confesses to him that she was just diagnosed with cancer and needs a drink. Frank’s favorite thing so […]
