The Dovekeepers — Cote De Pablo returns to TV in Roma Downey, Mark Burnett mini

The Dovekeepers — the newest TV event from Roma Downey and Mark Burnett under their LightWorkers Media banner — is based on a bloody chapter of human history. But, says Downey, the tale’s true foundation is love and the resilience of the human spirit. “We’re most interested in telling stories that find light in the darkness,” she explained at a recent press event. “Dovekeepers is really a love story … a love story in the face of this incredible tragedy.” Inspired by Alice Hoffman’s heralded 2011 bestseller, The Dovekeepers tells the intertwined tales of mistreated beauty Yael (Rachel Brosnahan), mystical Shirah (Cote […]

American Crime Episode 2 recap

American Crime Episode 2 spotlighted even more of what impressed me so much in the first episode — the unique, by television standards, filming style of John Ridley. Reading some responses to American Crime on Twitter when it debuted last week, I found some folks were not necessarily as intrigued and seemed somewhat confused at times. To be fair, it does take some adjustment. The quietness, especially in some of the extended scenes, is among the things that threw people off, if not outright bothered them, the most. There is little music to accentuate how you are supposed to be feeling; instead; […]

All Hail E!’s New Queen, Elizabeth Hurley

The private lives of public people enthrall us, and none piques our interest more than the closely guarded and fiercely private British royal family. A new series on E! offers a peek behind palace gates into the world of fictitious British royals whose world is filled with regal tradition and protocol, but rife with scandal, intrigue and backstabbing drama. E! teases that its juicy series, The Royals, is “Anarchy in the monarchy.” Reigning over the melee is Queen Helena, deliciously played by Elizabeth Hurley. Hurley’s Helena has an obsession with controlling the image of the family and thinks nothing of […]

Jane the Virgin Chapter 15 Recap: Another Baby and a Wedding?

Having gone without Jane the Virgin for two weeks, Chapter Fifteen definitely made sure to pack in a lot of drama. The episode starts out with Rafael and Jane waiting to hear back from the doctor about the baby’s health. Jane takes the initiative to call the office in order to hear the results of the amnio test, and is overwhelmed with happiness to hear that the baby’s in perfect condition. However, she tells Rafael that she’s still not willing to move in with him. She always had a plan on how her life would work out and clearly having a baby […]

Better Call Saul episode 6 recap: “Five-O”

Better Call Saul episode 6 is arguably the hour most Saul fans have been longing for since it was announced that Jonathan Banks’ stone-faced fixer Mike Ehrmantraut would be part of the story. And one most Breaking Bad fans hoped for, too, before Saul was even a twinkle in AMC’s eye. More than any this season, this episode also adds fuel to the burning question of whether or not you really must be a disciple of Breaking Bad to truly get the most from Saul. In this episode, we only see our titular hero for a few moments — priceless moments to be sure, but the […]

NBC Ends “Allegiance” after 5 Episodes

The cancellation axe has Swung at NBC. It’s modern-day Russian spy drama, Allegiance was cancelled after 5 low-performing episodes. In its episode from Thursday, March 5, the show attracted 3.4 million viewers, a distant third place finish in the 10pm (ET) time slot behind the series premiere of American Crime on ABC, and Elementary on CBS. Allegiance even followed NBC’s hit The Blacklist, which was moved from Mondays to Thursdays in an attempt to help launch the series, but to no avail. This was clearly a case of too many good shows on one night. Related: About Allegiance Related: Interview with […]

American Crime Episode 1 recap

Even from the opening credits of the first episode of ABC’s American Crime, which resembled those of a feature film, you could probably tell you were getting into something unique on broadcast television, something more cinematic and theatrical, more gritty and real. And from there, the style of the direction from creator and executive producer John Ridley (12 Years a Slave), and the intense performances he elicited from his great cast, may have confirmed your belief that you were watching something fantastic (if you weren’t already too engrossed in the story). If there was any drawback, it’s that it is on […]

Jane the Virgin star Azie Tesfai: “I’ve always been team Rafael…sorry Brett”

When The CW announced the premiere of their new show, Jane the Virgin, some were skeptical on how well a telenovela based show would do on a network that produces primarily supernatural shows with such huge fan followings. I immediately fell in love with the show and it seems that others have jumped on the bandwagon as well. With two Golden Globe nominations and lead actress Gina Rodriguez winning the award for Best Actress in a TV Series, Musical or Comedy, Jane the Virgin is the show everyone is talking about. With the show’s never-ending plot twists, the identity of the villain was […]

BBC America’s “Broadchurch” heads to court for Season 2

Broadchurch, the haunting murder mystery that premiered on BBC America in 2013 (and was the basis for last year’s less successful FOX adaptation Gracepoint) returns for a new season on Wednesday, March 4, at 10pm ET/PT. Season 2 begins as the person charged with the killing of 11-year-old Danny Latimer faces trial. David Tennant, Olivia Colman, Jodie Whittaker, Andrew Buchan and Arthur Darvill reprise their roles. Newcomers to the cast include Charlotte Rampling, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, James D’Arcy, Eve Myles and Phoebe Waller-Bridge. ITV in the U.K. has already commissioned a Season 3 for Broadchurch, so it’s very likely BBC America […]

Tom Selleck will be back in the ninth installment of the popular Jesse Stone mystery film franchise, based on the books by Robert B. The movie, titled Jesse Stone: Lost in Paradise, is currently in pre-production in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and finds Paradise Police Chief Jesse Stone (Selleck) agreeing to help the Massachusetts State Homicide Division track down a serial killer.
