Win, Place and Show With This Easy Mint Julep Recipe

Nothing says Derby Day like a festive hat and a mint julep. Legend states that Kentucky Senator Henry Clay first concocted the mint julep in the 1800’s, but regardless of which mixologist gets the credit, Derby fans have been enjoying this southern cocktail since the first horse races in 1875. This weekend, over 120,000 mint juleps will be enjoyed at Churchill Downs alone, so pop on huge hat and get ready to make your Derby party more festive with this easy mint julep recipe. Ingredients 8 to 10 mint leaves 1 Sprig of mint for garnish 1 Tablespoon sugar, more […]

Discovery documentary looks at deadly Mount Everest avalanche

What began as efforts to begin production on the live Discovery Channel special Everest Jump Live — which would have seen climber Joby Ogwyn attempt to make the first wing suit flight off the summit of Mount Everest — turned into tragedy on April 18 when an avalanche struck the Khumbu Icefall, the area just above Mount Everest base camp. The disaster killed 13 Sherpas, and left three missing. The NBC News team that was at base camp intending to produce the live event, instead found themselves witnessing the avalanche, which will be chronicled in the 90-minute documentary Everest Avalanche […]

Louis C.K. delivers a season of “Louie” worth the wait

Coming off big Emmy wins in 2012, comedian Louis C.K. announced that his FX hit comedy Louie would go on an extended hiatus between Seasons 3 and 4. The series’ star/producer/writer/director/editor wanted time to creatively recharge, develop new material and keep the show fresh. Fortunately, his landmark creative deal with FX affords him that freedom. “I want Season 4 to go somewhere new,” Louis C.K. said when the hiatus was announced. “I’m looking back to when I did the first season and the time I took to do the show and decide which directions to go in, and I want […]

Face Off Recap: Season 6 Finale

The Season 6 finale of Face Off on SyFy had three remaining makeup artists vying for $100,000, a 2014 Fiat and a VIP trip from Kryolan Professional Make-Up. The three finalists, Tyler, Rashaad and George are all talented in their own rights, and each would be a worthy victor. George is an amazing sculptor, Tyler has fantastic and complex ideas and Rashaad is an incredible painter. The finale of Face Off always consists of some sort of dance performance, so the three finalists will have to create makeups that are flexible enough to allow movement, but also strong enough to […]

“Survivor” host Jeff Probst answers our 7 Questions

Somehow those khaki shorts and double-pocketed, button-down shirts Survivor host and executive producer Jeff Probst has been wearing for almost 15 years now just don’t get old. Rain or shine, Probst’s chiseled grin and call-it-as-it-is questioning continue to keep the series fresh and entertaining, as well as in top rankings. We recently put the Emmy winner in the hot seat to answer some of our standard 7 Questions. 1. You’re at a magazine rack and can only pick three titles. Which ones do you choose? Jeff Probst: Fast Times, Vanity Fair, The Hollywood Reporter 2. If your TV carried just […]

5 Questions With Tom Kenny Of “SpongeBob SquarePants”

Tom Kenny is entering his 15th year voicing SpongeBob SquarePants on Nickelodeon, and the beloved animated kids’ series shows no signs of slowing down. But that absorbent, yellow and porous goofball is just one of seemingly countless characters that Kenny voices, including Ice King on Adventure Time and (for the grownups) Woody on Brickleberry. Kenny took some time to use his own voice to answer our “5 Questions.” You’re at a magazine rack and can only pick three titles. Which ones do you choose? I like old monster movies, so there’s a magazine called Monsters From the Vault. There’s an old […]

The Normal Heart: We talk with Mark Ruffalo

Mark Ruffalo, Matt Bomer, Julia Roberts, Taylor Kitsch and Jim Parsons stun in Ryan Murphy and Larry Kramer’s unflinching and unforgettable film adaptation of The Normal Heart. In 1981, playwright Larry Kramer was an active part of New York’s thriving gay community when a mysterious cancer began turning his vibrant comrades into lesion-covered, incoherent living skeletons — and then into corpses. Spurred into action by his friend and physician Dr. Linda Laubenstein, who treated the outbreak’s earliest patients, Kramer begged his vast social circle to end the rampant promiscuity Laubenstein suspected led to its alarming spread. Kramer launched the Gay Men’s Health […]

“Brick Like Me”: Photos from The Simpsons LEGO episode

Proving again that the good people at LEGO have established a marketing department within my brain, FOX’s Sunday, May 4 (8pm ET/PT), episode of The Simpsons will have a special LEGO-themed show. Conveniently, it’s also timed to the launch of a Simpsons line of LEGO minifigure and building sets. In “Brick Like Me,” Homer wakes up in a world where his family and everyone in Springfield are made of LEGO in the series’ milestone 550th episode. We’ll have to see if there’s a reference to Blockos. Photos from The Simpsons LEGO episode: The Simpson family at breakfast brickfast. Vegetarian bricks […]
