Discovery announces “Deadliest Catch” fan festival

CatchCon 2011, a fan festival devoted to the hit Discovery Channel series Deadliest Catch, will drop anchor April 9 at Bell Harbor Conference Center in Seattle from noon-6pm. Fans will have the chance to meet the captains, tour the actual boats the brave the frigid Bering Sea, go behind the scenes into the lives of Alaska crab fishermen and catch an advanced preview of the new season of Deadliest Catch, which premieres on Discovery April 12.

Discovery gains exclusive access for Chilean mine rescue documentary

Discovery Channel has gained exclusive access to the harrowing 70-day Chilean miners ordeal, and the heart-wrenching rescue mission undertaken to save all 33 of them, for a world-premiere special with the working title of Rescued: The Chilean Mine Story. The one-hour special is produced by Discovery Channel Latin America and will simulcast October 28 on Discovery Channel and Discovery en Español in the United States, and on Discovery Channel across Latin America the same day. Discovery Channel chronicles “Ardi” finding this Sunday

You may have heard the announcement last week of the discovery of 4.4 million-year-old Ardipithecus ramidus — “Ardi,” for short — the oldest hominid skeleton ever found. This Sunday, Oct. 11, Discovery Channel presents an exclusive chronicle of the long journey to get to that announcement. The program, Discovering Ardi, is the result of a 10-year collaboration between the Middle Awash Research Project, which discovered the remains, and Primary Pictures of Atlanta.
