ESPYs bring athletes, Hollywood together

Click here for 2012 ESPYS TV coverage. If somebody asked you who won the Oscar for Best Picture last year or the TV show that took home the Emmy for Best Drama, there is a pretty good chance you’d be able to remember both. How about who won the ESPY for Best Team? Not so much. Think of the ESPYs as a sports version of the MTV Movie Awards in that both are rarely memorable but are a lot of fun to watch. And with this one, how can you really go wrong when the sports world and Hollywood unite […]

2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup Semifinals

In case you missed one of the most exciting games of soccer ever played, here are the key takeaways from Sunday’s quarterfinal match between the US and Brazil: 1. The US ladies know how to win games in the World Cup. (Hope you’re taking notes, USMNT.) 2. Abby Wambach and Hope Solo are beasts! 3. I’ve got a major girl crush on Megan Rapinoe for her lethal PK and this phenomenal cross. Watch a replay, watch the highlights. That emotional rollercoaster should’ve been the final. Oh, and to you, U12 punk at the 3v3 tournament this weekend, I say “HA!” […]

2011 NBA Draft live June 23 on ESPN

The NBA Draft takes place, Thursday, June 23, at 7pm ET from Newark’s Prudential Center, and ESPN has the event covered. I won’t attempt to analyze this draft — I’ll leave that to the fine folks at Deadspin, who’ve compiled pretty much all you need to know about the prospects. But I am well aware that this is not going to be a Draft for the Ages. Still, many of you are into this type of stuff and can’t get enough Jimmer Fredette, so we’ll give you all the where-to-watch type info. Here is the press release from ESPN with […]

2011 Wimbledon tennis tournament TV schedule

The third and most prestigious Grand Slam tennis tournament of the year returns to the All England Club for the Wimbledon Championships June 20-July 3. Spain’s Rafael Nadal won his second Wimbledon title last year, but will face competition from Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Robin Soderling and longtime foe Roger Federer. Coming off another French Open win, Nadal is a heavy favorite to repeat. Defending women’s champ Serena Williams is back into playing shape after injury and health problems, but an early exit at Eastbourne might indicate she’s not 100 percent. Other contenders include Caroline Wozniacki, Vera Zvonareva, French Open […]

U.S. Open humbles the best of the best

Weekend duffers and hackers always try in vain to emulate pro golfers when we take to the public links courses. And with good reason. These elite players can pull off shots with ease that most amateurs can only dream about. But the next four days will be different. As the best of the best converge on Congressional Country Club in Maryland for the U.S. Open, they will be tested like they have rarely been tested before. When all of the scores are tallied Sunday afternoon, the last man standing could be hovering around par or maybe a few strokes under […]

2011 U.S. Open golf tournament TV schedule

The world’s best golfers hope for a better showing than they had last year at the U.S. Open, when Pebble Beach Golf Links absolutely punished the field. In the end, Northern Ireland’s Graeme McDowell (pictured) survived as the only player to match par for the tournament and became the first European since 1970 to win the U.S. Open. This year’s national championship heads to Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md., where Lee Westwood, Martin Kaymer, Luke Donald and Phil Mickelson hope for a title in the year’s second major. Tiger Woods withdrew due to a lingering injury in his left […]
