TCA: FX to debut Fargo 10-episode series April 15

Whatever you want to call it — a re-imagining, a reworking, an adaptation, a riff — FX’s 10-episode series Fargo will debut April 15, the network announced Tuesday as it addressed reporters in Los Angeles. One word the cast and crew would prefer you not use is “remake.” This Fargo, which takes its inspiration and aesthetic from the award-winning and beloved 1996 Coen brothers film, features all new characters and situations as life for a group of residents in Bemidji, Minn., suddenly turns violent. Bemidji is a real town, but we’re guessing it doesn’t often play host to some of […]

TCA: Archer CD release date is February 17

Sing a song of Archer — a whole CD of them in fact. Today at the Television Critics Association press tour, FX announced it will release a 12-track Archer CD entitled “Cherlene” — in homage to the new, country-music warbling alter ego of Judy Greer’s Cheryl Tunt — on all digital platforms Monday, Feb. 17. Cheryl’s previously released “Danger Zone” duet with pop icon Kenny Loggins will highlight the collection, which also features three new, unreleased songs original to Archer including It’s All About Me, I’ll Burn it Down and Gypsy Woman. According to a press release announcing the musical […]

5 Things To Love About Justified Season 5

Justified Season 5 is upon us, and while it is indeed sad that Elmore Leonard won’t be around to enjoy it with us, the writers and producers have given us plenty of reasons to rejoice in returning to Harlan County, Ky., to follow the exploits of U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant). The three episodes the network has sent out for preview contain the same laconic charm mixed with brutal violence that has been the show’s hallmark. Here are five reasons I already love Justified Season 5: 1) Guest Stars Galore: What’s so cool about the roster of guest stars […]

Sons of Anarchy recap: “A Mother’s Work”

Perhaps there are many occasions when a Sons of Anarchy recap just can’t do justice to what it’s describing. I’ll go ahead and tell you all the things that happened in the Season 6 finale, but it can’t match the power of seeing it. But be warned, this is going to hurt, and probably make you mad and want to go into a Jax-like rage of spitting out your words then yelling uncontrollably for a sentence or two then kicking something. Tara (Maggie Siff) is the subject of everyone’s curiosity, with most of the club assuming she had cut a […]

Sons of Anarchy recap: “You Are My Sunshine”

Now is about the time in every Sons of Anarchy run when it feels more like the end of the series is near, and not just the season. That’s never more true than after the events of “You Are My Sunshine,” this week’s Sons of Anarchy recap. We start with Patterson (CCH Pounder) reaming Jax (Charlie Hunnam) over the bloodbath he orchestrated involving Galen (Timothy V. Murphy) and Clay (Ron Perlman). She knows he’s lying, he knows she knows, but in the end they both came out better off. Perhaps Patterson is willing to let things slide a little bit […]

“Sons of Anarchy”: 5 most shocking deaths

(WARNING: This post contains massive spoilers for several seasons of Sons of Anarchy, so if you’re not caught up, get thee to a DVD player or streaming device and make it happen.) It’s a dicey proposition trying to rank the most shocking deaths in a show like Sons of Anarchy. You always have to consider it a work in progress. To wit, I started this blog a few weeks ago after Lee Toric’s wtf death scene, before other assignments sort of put it on the back burner until time got away from me. Well, then Kurt Sutter and Company go […]

Sons of Anarchy recap: “Aon Rud Pearsanta”

All right, so now I know why FX didn’t send along a screener for this week’s episode ahead of time. I mean, yes, it always help when doing a Sons of Anarchy recap to have time to process what you’ve seen, but in this case, secrecy had to be a priority. To say this is a game-changer might be underselling it a bit. So if you haven’t seen the episode yet — the title of which translates to “Nothing Personal” — run away, run far away, because you can’t unhear these spoilers. Let’s just come out with it. Halfway through […]

Sons of Anarchy recap: “Huang Wu”

I’m sitting here staring this Sons of Anarchy recap trying to think of any moments more tense than watching Tara (Maggie Siff) at the beginning of this episode walking around her house, unable to find baby Thomas, and fearing what has happened now that her husband, Jax (Charlie Hunnam) has come home. … Nope, can’t think of any right now. She eventually finds her husband and her sons in a scene that on a normal day would be quite serene, Jax holding his baby boy and watching his other son sleep peacefully. But now we don’t know what’s going to […]

Sons of Anarchy recap: “John 8:32”

Rarely are titles of episodes more indicative of what’s to come than for this Sons of Anarchy recap. If you don’t have a Bible handy, I’ll just paraphrase John 8:32 and tell you it’s the one that says “the truth shall set you free.” Well, Jax (Charlie Hunnam) gets a whole Old Testament load of truth this episode, and it’s going to make the rest of the season one to remember. The episode starts with an only so-so attempt to draw parallels between couples Jax and Tara (Maggie Siff) and Gemma (Katey Sagal) and Nero (Jimmy Smits). Essentially, the point […]
