It’s not at all uncommon for a series to follow up a huge, game-changing episode — like the one Sons of Anarchy Season 6 threw at us last week — with a rather ho-hum affair. I’m of two minds about “Wolfsangel.” On the one hand, it’s amazing that a show can still genuinely shock me six seasons in. Throughout six seasons, there have been plenty of shocking, disturbing deaths on Sons of Anarchy. The ones that spring to my mind are the innocents: Opie’s wife Donna, the Irish couple that adopted Abel, Tig’s daughter, the nurse who turns out to be Lee Toric’s sister. Well, we’ve had a week to digest the awful climax of last week’s premiere, in which a young boy shot up a school, but as we start this episode, the characters finally find out. And it’s not just some lead story to shake your head over on the evening news — this one has personal connections to the SAMCRO and consequences. Just as it shows no mercy to its characters, FX’s relentless biker drama Sons of Anarchy punished its TV competitors Tuesday night, scoring 5.87 million total viewers, becoming the small screen’s No. 1 show for the night, broadcast and cable.
