“Anarchy Afterword”: FX’s “Sons of Anarchy” gets post-episode talk show

Those who have a hard time coming down after each hard-hitting, intense episode of Sons of Anarchy will no longer have to ride through this world all alone. When Sons of Anarchy Season 6 debuts Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 10pm on FX, it will be followed immediately by Anarchy Afterword, a live web post-show hosted by comedian Chris Franjola (Chelsea Lately) from the SOA set. Visit anarchyafterword.com for uncensored interviews with Sons creator Kurt Sutter, and a revolving roster of cast members. The format follows the popular Talking Dead and Talking Bad on AMC, meaning the comedian host (named Chris) will […]

Sons of Anarchy Season 6: Date, time, TV channel, preview and more!

Sons of Anarchy Season 6 Tuesday, Sept. 10 FX, 10pm As we go through Sons of Anarchy Season 6, I’ll do my best to keep from overusing a really cool word — “penultimate.” Even though, hey, it’s totally appropriate, seeing as it means “next to last,” and creator Kurt Sutter has assured us the tale of SAMCRO will end after Season 7. That’s another reason not to use “penultimate,” because I don’t really need or want any reminders that one of my favorite shows has an end in sight. Although as sad as it will be to see Sons of […]

“American Horror Story: Coven” releases another creepy teaser

The marketing geniuses at American Horror Story: Coven have released another enigmatic teaser for the FX series, which premieres Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 10pm ET/PT. Before we had a bunch of women’s bodies suspended (or hanged?) as a creepy rendition of “House of the Rising Sun” kicked in. It was only 17 seconds, but quite memorable. Here, there is some definite Salem Witch Trial imagery on display, what with the burning and the stakes and all. It’s slightly longer, at 21 seconds, but no more informative. Still no sign of Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates, Lily Rabe, Sarah Paulson, Taissa Farmiga, […]

Elmore Leonard obituary: Legendary author whose work inspired “Justified” dead at 87

Elmore Leonard, a towering figure in American crime fiction, has died at 87 after having suffered a stroke earlier this month. Sometimes called the “Dickens of Detroit,” Leonard largely wrote Westerns for the first two decades of his career, which stretched back to 1953’s The Bounty Hunters and included such memorable titles as Hombre, Last Stand at Saber River and Valdez is Coming. He later became known for gritty crime stories rife with snappy, realistic dialogue, many of which were made into films. It was a pair of adaptations in the 1990s, though — 1995’s Get Shorty and Quentin Tarantino’s […]

“American Horror Story: Coven” teaser trailer gets witchy … or does it?

Another fall TV season, another batch of creepy abstract teasers for American Horror Story. This initial 17-second clip for American Horror Story: Coven reveals nothing at all about the storyline, which we know is going to be centered around witches in New Orleans. The opening line of “House of the Rising Sun” — the one about there being a house in New Orleans — is the only reference to the setting. Otherwise all we see is a white room where a small white cat walks toward the camera before we pan to a much more arresting visual, seven women — […]

“The Bridge”: FX explores border troubles in new crime drama

The Bridge premieres Wednesday, July 10, at 10pm ET on FX. Two bodies. Two nations. One bridge. That’s the irresistible — and undeniably gruesome — setup of FX’s tense, sure-to-be-controversial crime drama The Bridge, which explores the fallout of a murder investigation that stretches into both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border. On one side is one of the safest cities in the world, while just to the south lies one of the deadliest. In El Paso, Detective Sonya Cross (Diane Kruger) is a no-nonsense-to-a-fault cop who has zero tolerance for anything that distracts her from solving the case. It’s not […]

Wilfred Season 3 preview: FX comedy still has bite

I love the premise of Wilfred so much that I know I’m probably often guilty of overlooking its shortcomings. The idea of a man seeing a guy in a dog suit while everyone else sees a dog just tickles me so much that I can’t help but feel good about what I’m watching, even during the times that what I’m watching isn’t that good. Thankfully, though, there isn’t much in the first three episodes of Wilfred Season 3 that I need to feel ambivalent about enjoying. Kicking off with a pair of episodes tonight, Wilfred Season 3 starts off in […]

Totally Biased With W. Kamau Bell returns tonight with guest Melissa Harris-Perry

Totally Biased With W. Kamau Bell Thursday, May 9 FX, 11pm ET/PT Rising star W. Kamau Bell returns with a new batch of episodes of his late-night talk show that unapologetically discusses politics, pop culture, race, religion, sex, the media — you know, all that stuff you’re not supposed to bring up at parties. Tonight’s guest on Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell will be MSNBC’s Melissa Harris-Perry, who was the center of a controversy for saying in a network promo that “”we have to break through our kind of private idea that kids belong to their parents or kids belong […]

The Americans FX: Producers speak out about Season 1 finale, Season 2

The Americans ended its Season 1 run Wednesday night with a suspenseful, action-packed finale, “The Colonel.” It was a lot easier to watch knowing that the engrossing Cold War drama, which follows KGB spies Philip (Matthew Rhys) and Elizabeth (Keri Russell) living deep undercover near Washington, D.C., and posing as a married couple, has been renewed for Season 2. Executive producers and writers Joe Weisberg and Joel Fields, who were very happy to get out of the writers room for a while, spoke with reporters this week about the finale and where the show might go from here: WARNING: THE […]

The Americans FX finale preview: “The Colonel”

The Americans: “The Colonel” Wednesday, May 1 FX, 10pm ET It’s been a bumpy ride in the debut season of The Americans, both with the chilling Cold War drama playing out onscreen, and a few technical glitches that have disrupted the viewing experience. Ratings-wise, however, the show has been a smash, having nabbed a record 5.11 million viewers in its January debut, making it FX’s most-watched premiere ever. Season 2 will be coming next year. Until then, this Wednesday’s episode will be the last chance we have to catch up with our favorite undercover Russkie spies. In “The Colonel,” Philip […]
