Dance Moms recap: Rotten to the Core

OK, Dance Moms fans, before we get going on 90 minutes of Dance Mama (and Papa) drama, I have a question for those of you who do such a fine job of educating me about the dance world, since I’m such an outsider looking in. The thing we are at this week is called an “intensive.” This intensive. Wild Dance Intensive — a division of Starpower. Now my admittedly limited understanding of an intensive is that it is like dance school meets summer camp only more … intense. But educational, all the same. Not competitive. So imagine my confusion at […]

Dance Moms recap: Four Dudes in O-hi-o

Were you worried, Dance Moms faithful … or Dance Moms Desperate . .. or whatever we’re calling ourselves now? I’m sorry I’m late. I had a short-notice thing to do in New York. And I’ll admit I did consider bagging out on this one, just for a little respite, a dab of relief. But then I spotted a familiar face in the promo. A good, kind, nice kid, like the seven other good, kind, nice kids we’re trying desperately to support. Zack Torres. From Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition. And his nice mom Gina. Dancing on the newly reinvented all-boy Candy Apples […]

Lifetime released this music video today starring Jennifer Love Hewitt, star of the network’s hit series The Client List, which returns for its second season beginning March 10 at 10pm ET/PT. Produced by Randy Jackson and directed by Matthew Rolston, the video — set to the song “I’m a Woman,” sung by Jennifer Love Hewitt — features the actress having all kinds of sexy, playful fun while offering up her sultry ode to femininity and celebrating the return of her series, which is based on a 2010 Lifetime original movie. Last year, The Client List put Lifetime No. 1 in […]

Army Wives Season 7 premieres March 10 — Brooke Shields, Ashanti sign on

Brace yourself for big changes to the tribe when Army Wives Season 7 premieres Sunday, March 10 at 9/8CT — which should come as no surprise since Season 6 ended with a plane full of first brigade personnel going down. But is the phone call that sits Gen. Holden down in shock related to the crash or another tragedy that hits even closer to home? As the new season bows, Kim Delaney’s Claudia Joy Holden departs the veteran Lifetime series in what the network is calling “one of the series’ most dramatic and pivotal moments” — if you really want to know […]

Dance Moms recap: Studio Black and Blue

I don’t even know what to say about this episode, Dance Moms faithful. I don’t even know how to try to fish out something good. I do know there’s a boatload of us trying hard to tell ourselves that the show’s worst moments are scripted and everyone does a big ol’ group hug at the end of the day and laughs about the ruse. But these girls are not actresses. And their tears and their stressed-out faces are so horribly, clearly real. And on full display in each and every episode this season with precious little to diffuse that. I […]

Betty and Coretta premieres Feb. 2 on Lifetime

Angela Bassett is Hollywood’s go-to actress for critically heralded performances as women with steely backbones and tender hearts — most notably American history-makers Rosa Parks, Tina Turner and Dr. Betty Shabazz, widow of Malcolm X. But after more than 25 years in the business, the Oscar-nominated star had yet to play Martin Luther King Jr.’s widow Coretta Scott King, who expanded his message of nonviolence and equality to a global audience until her death in 2006. Bassett finally got her chance. This month, she stars as Mrs. King opposite Mary J. Blige’s Dr. Shabazz in the Lifetime original movie Betty […]

Project Runway Season 11 contestants start the show tonight

Project Runway Season 11 debuts tonight and the twists are coming early. First off, no Michael Kors. Sad trombone. Secondly, the contestants are competing in teams for the whole season. I’m interested in seeing how Project Runway pulls this off. As I’ve said before, if they are trying to make this a realistic challenge, then the teams should change weekly like they do in the real world. I’m also willing to give new judge Zac Posen a chance. Some of the clips show some snarky promise in Mr. Posen. I’m hopeful that these are just highlights and once I tune […]

Dance Moms recap: You’re (Immi)grating On My Nerves

This week’s Dance Moms is all about home. Wanting to get there. Being left there. Has Sophia gone back there? We even get a look at Abby’s. Or at least the garage. To start, the gang — minus Sophia — has gathered just in time for the resurrection of the pyramid. Oh pyramid. I have (not) missed you so. Bottom of the bottom is Chloe. Seems that extended back stretch in the middle of her solo last week was not part of the choreography. It was Chloe forgetting the choreography. Despite her meltdown at the end of the ep, a suddenly […]

Lifetime’s Prosecuting Casey Anthony: Are we ready to go back there?

How you feel about Prosecuting Casey Anthony — whether you even choose to watch it — likely depends on how much time you spent watching the actual prosecution of Anthony, the young Florida woman acquitted of murdering her toddler daughter Caylee despite the sordid details of the case that held the nation in its thrall. Though the Lifetime film, which premieres Saturday night at 8, is culled from Florida prosecutor Jeff Ashton’s memoir Imperfect Justice: Prosecuting Casey Anthony, much of it feels like a retread of the endless footage that permeated television from the announcement of Caylee’s disappearance on July […]

Dance Moms recap: Picking at Scabs

Looks like we’re divided kinda 50-50 on whether we’re OK with Abby’s new dancers or not, Dance Moms fans. Which is bad news for the half who aren’t so charmed, because even after last week’s so-so success, the scabs are back and Abby’s still hoping the Pitt Crew will soon be but a memory. No such luck, Abs — they’re back as well, with Mrs. Hyland in tow. Kel says that she realizes that the way Abby treats her girls is never going to change and since they miss the studio and they miss Miss Abby, may as well go […]
