Sons of Anarchy Season 6 recap: “Wolfsangel”

I’m of two minds about “Wolfsangel.” On the one hand, it’s amazing that a show can still genuinely shock me six seasons in. On the other, Sons of Anarchy Season 6 is dancing on that razor-thin line separating shocking twists from just jerking you around. The next few episodes will tell the tale. Instead of taking you through every event in detail, then giving you the big news, I need to just get this out there right now. Lee Toric (Donal Logue) is dead. The former U.S. Marshal out for vengeance against SAMCRO for the brutal murder of his sister, […]

Sons of Anarchy recap: Poenitentia

Throughout six seasons, there have been plenty of shocking, disturbing deaths on Sons of Anarchy. The ones that spring to my mind are the innocents: Opie’s wife Donna, the Irish couple that adopted Abel, Tig’s daughter, the nurse who turns out to be Lee Toric’s sister. This episode adds yet another to that list and forever alters the way we view Toric (Donal Logue). As he’s waiting in his hotel room for the DA (CCH Pounder) to show up for their meeting, he gets a little paranoid and has his gun at the ready. Then when the hooker he was […]

Sons of Anarchy recap: “One One Six”

Well, we’ve had a week to digest the awful climax of last week’s premiere, in which a young boy shot up a school, but as we start this episode, the characters finally find out. And it’s not just some lead story to shake your head over on the evening news — this one has personal connections to the SAMCRO and consequences. The boy, Matthew, is the son of the girlfriend of Arcadio (Dave Navarro), one of Nero’s (Jimmy Smits) loyal henchmen. And the gun he used belonged to Arcadio, after he bought it from, yes, Jax and company. Let the […]

Sons of Anarchy ratings for Season 6 premiere score series high for FX

Just as it shows no mercy to its characters, FX’s relentless biker drama Sons of Anarchy punished its TV competitors Tuesday night, scoring 5.87 million total viewers, becoming the small screen’s No. 1 show for the night, broadcast and cable. When adding in those who watched the encore presentation, the viewership goes up to 8.09 total viewers — damn near Duck Dynasty territory! The network forecasts that once the Live + 7 data comes in (that’s the people who watched it live, or caught it on DVR within seven days), the Sons of Anarchy ratings for the Season 6 premiere […]

Sons of Anarchy Season 6 recap: “Straw”

If there is one centralized theme to Sons of Anarchy — this leather-clad Hamlet, this motorcycle-mounted Godfather — it is the sins of the father falling upon the son. John Teller’s change of heart came too late, and proved too little to save him from his scheming friend Clay, who took his life and stole his wife, Gemma. Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam) has worked to make his vision for his father’s beloved SAMCRO a reality, but of course has been drawn to depths of depravity that probably exceed whatever gave his father pause. Sons of Anarchy Season 6, which creator […]

“Anarchy Afterword”: FX’s “Sons of Anarchy” gets post-episode talk show

Those who have a hard time coming down after each hard-hitting, intense episode of Sons of Anarchy will no longer have to ride through this world all alone. When Sons of Anarchy Season 6 debuts Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 10pm on FX, it will be followed immediately by Anarchy Afterword, a live web post-show hosted by comedian Chris Franjola (Chelsea Lately) from the SOA set. Visit anarchyafterword.com for uncensored interviews with Sons creator Kurt Sutter, and a revolving roster of cast members. The format follows the popular Talking Dead and Talking Bad on AMC, meaning the comedian host (named Chris) will […]

Sons of Anarchy Season 6: Date, time, TV channel, preview and more!

Sons of Anarchy Season 6 Tuesday, Sept. 10 FX, 10pm As we go through Sons of Anarchy Season 6, I’ll do my best to keep from overusing a really cool word — “penultimate.” Even though, hey, it’s totally appropriate, seeing as it means “next to last,” and creator Kurt Sutter has assured us the tale of SAMCRO will end after Season 7. That’s another reason not to use “penultimate,” because I don’t really need or want any reminders that one of my favorite shows has an end in sight. Although as sad as it will be to see Sons of […]

“Sons of Anarchy” recap: “J’ai Obtenu Cette”

Even if we didn’t know going in that this was a season finale, you can tell immediately that Sons of Anarchy means business when it breaks out the Katey Sagal songs. “Ruby Tuesday,” “Bird on a Wire,” “Son of a Preacher Man,” and now “To Sir, With Love.” Not sure if it’s the most mood-catching songs for what’s to come, but it’s always nice hearing her voice, reminding us of the unassailable beauty Sagal is capable of producing, along with the malice and desperation that so often shows in her portrayal of Gemma. But, since this is a season finale, […]

“Sons of Anarchy”: Foreign-language episode titles nothing new

Tonight’s Season 5 finale of Sons of Anarchy goes by the strange title of “J’ai Obtenu Cette,” which translates from French to “I Have Obtained This.” (Or perhaps more appropriately, “I got this.”) It’s just the latest in a healthy line of episode titles that the writers and producers have seen fit to put in a foreign tongue. Whether it’s just for effect, or if there is some special relevance to the plot, it’s undoubtedly one more thing that makes the unrelenting biker drama so compelling. Here’s a list of all the titles, along with their translation and — hopefully […]

“Sons of Anarchy” recap: “Darthy”

I’m just waiting for someone to assemble a clip of Jax raising his voice this season of Sons of Anarchy. The guy’s been like a virtual grunge song these past few episodes, growling quietly as he tries to tell people he is methodical and ruthless, and means business, then all of a sudden YELLING VERY LOUDLY  to tell them he’s pissed. Yeah, it’s pretty much been since Opie got killed, so maybe that makes sense. He’s got plenty of reason to shout this episode as well, as things come to a head with Clay much sooner than he expected, and […]
