With the Republican National Convention winding down, it’s the Democrats’ turn to gather, with the Democratic National Convention taking place in Charlotte Sept. 4-6. There they are expected to formally nominate President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden for a second term as President and Vice President of the United States. We wrote a few months back about the casting calls being held for the U.S. version of the international hit music competition series Yo Me Llamo (My Name Is), and yesterday Telemundo announced the premiere date for the series — Sept. 9. In Yo Me Llamo, the country’s most talented amateur singers/performers vie for $100,000 in cash and prizes by transforming themselves into their favorite musical icons. “God bless soccer,” said sportscaster Andrés Cantor, as he prepared to call last Saturday’s historic Olympic men’s gold medal soccer match between Mexico and Brazil at Wembley Stadium in London. Telemundo might be expressing the same sentiment, now that ratings are in for their coverage of that event. Yesterday, Telemundo Media, part of the NBCUniversal family, began its Spanish-language coverage of the 2012 Summer Olympic games in London with Olympic soccer coverage of Honduras vs. Morocco, Mexico vs. Korea, United Arab Emirates vs. Uruguay, and Egypt vs. Brazil. Telemundo has launched its first national casting call for the international TV hit Yo Me Llamo (My Name Is) across five top Hispanic markets. Casting calls will be held from July 7 to July 23 in the markets listed below. Yo Me Llamo asks contestants to not only show exceptional musical talent, but to also demonstrate their ability to convey the personalities, style and even charisma of popular artists.
