Scariest Scary Movie #20 – Misery

Misery (1990, James Caan, Kathy Bates, Richard Farnsworth)

“I’m your number one fan.”

Quick Plot: Annie Wilkes rescues her favorite author Paul Sheldon from a snowy cold wreck in the mountains and nurses him back to health in the comfort of her home. She is his number one fan, but as he begins to recover, Paul realizes just what a psychotic, crazed fan she really is. While he continuously attempts to break free and let others know he is still alive, Annie tightens her clutches on him.

Scariest Scene: The part when Annie realizes Paul has been getting out of bed and subsequently “hobbles” him always makes this hard-core horror fanatic wince!

Final Say: Misery is the kind of film I could leave on as background ambiance as I clean the house or throw a party. Or I could pop a bowl of popcorn, grab my favorite beverage, turn off the lights and really tune into it. If you’ve never seen Misery, or just want to revisit a Stephen King classic, I suggest you check out this great psychological roller-coaster.
