Theresa Caputo, the star of TLC’s series Long Island Medium, says she was 28 when she was first introduced to the possibility that she was a medium. It took another five years for her to actually accept her gift.
“There’s a big difference from when I accepted it to who am I?” Caputo told us. She said she struggled with feeling, “I’m no different than anybody else. Why was I chosen to do this? Why is this my journey?”
The aftermath of 9/11 left her with clarity and a feeling of purpose for what she calls her role in the physical world. Now Caputo spends her days and nights taking her clients on an emotional and spiritual journey with the afterlife. She helps people find closure and/or reconnect some with loved ones who have passed.

Her wait time is over two years at this point, due to the popularity of the show.
Surprisingly, Caputo has built her career on word of mouth only and has done little to no marketing. When asked if she’s ready for what a TV series will bring as far as popularity, Caputo says: “Absolutely not. I still think this is like a school project. It’s so not reality yet for me. My life is overwhelming as it is, as of right now, my waiting list to get an appointment is… I don’t have any availability until January 2013.”

Theresa I look forward to sunday nights just to watch all the miracle of you helping others, I would love to come see you I have a son he is going to be 2yrs old and he is a blessing it took me 10 yrs of trying and finally its been a rough road he had open heart surgery at columbia last year but is doing good thank God Please call me so I can set up a appointment I know there is such a long wait but you are worth it… I strugle with so many things my son has therapy 4 times a week and 3 times a day he is still not walking yet. Hi Theresa, I think you are amazing. I have been going though a family battle. I need my decesased father’s input – as to his estate. My father was a larger than life individual. I constantly experience overhead streetlights going off and back on – once I pass, either driving in a car or walking. I know he is trying to tell me something. I know that he would connect with us in a minute.

Hi Theresa, I was just watching your show last night on TLC with my 8 year old daughter. You are truly amazing. I told my daughter I would love to meet you and see how my mother is doing. She died 8 yrs ago n I wonder if she she’s what’s going on n my life n my health. I was diagnosed a yr or so back with a blood disorder. I now recently found out that I’m not doing well n I am going to have to go through extensive intensive treatment or I can die from this. I have 3 beautiful girl that I don’t wont to leave until I am old n gray. I’m only 44 now. Don’t no if this is going to be possible. I hope to one day meet you n possibly speak to my mother. Hello I’m a nanny I have worked with the same family now for 10 years it was over 8 years a ago I had these wierd dreams I would say nightmares. for a hole year I would dream about a house that a girl who seemed to be traped in a room with all kinds of boxes in it. I never seen the house or been in it till my boss moved in. This one day I walked Around the house and notice the the stairs that led to the room that was always in my dreams I didn’t know it was the house till a week after they moved in. I was so scared to ever go up stairs for a really long time. Then one day like a month latter the girl walked by me as I was laying on couch and the same night the girl I watched told her mom that there was a girl in her room I believe spirit left when we they moved in it was like the owner before traped her in abd never let her out. So some how I was dreaming about her and this house for a year. But some times I believe she still there. How is it that I would dream about something like that?
