Theresa Caputo, the star of TLC’s series Long Island Medium, says she was 28 when she was first introduced to the possibility that she was a medium. It took another five years for her to actually accept her gift.
“There’s a big difference from when I accepted it to who am I?” Caputo told us. She said she struggled with feeling, “I’m no different than anybody else. Why was I chosen to do this? Why is this my journey?”
The aftermath of 9/11 left her with clarity and a feeling of purpose for what she calls her role in the physical world. Now Caputo spends her days and nights taking her clients on an emotional and spiritual journey with the afterlife. She helps people find closure and/or reconnect some with loved ones who have passed.

Her wait time is over two years at this point, due to the popularity of the show.
Surprisingly, Caputo has built her career on word of mouth only and has done little to no marketing. When asked if she’s ready for what a TV series will bring as far as popularity, Caputo says: “Absolutely not. I still think this is like a school project. It’s so not reality yet for me. My life is overwhelming as it is, as of right now, my waiting list to get an appointment is… I don’t have any availability until January 2013.”

Hello there. I live in Maine. I know it’s far, but I would love answers. I have lost three aunts, two grandfathers and my nana all in the 21 years that I have been living. Just recently my dad lost his best friend to cancer. He and my mother were with him almost every day. Doctor appointments, surgeries, everything until the end. I wasn’t able to really know one of my aunts or my nana. I just want to know something. Am I be watched? Are they proud of me?! Please take the time and email me back. This would mean so much to me.
My daughter lives in Somverville, MA and we’ll be there to visit her next year around 3/25/13 for her 30th Birthday. I was wondering if there is anyway that we (my two daughters and I) could make an appointment with you. I lost my father (their grandfather) in December of 2001 – they both were unable to make it to the hospital because of school – I would like them to know it was ok for them to take care of their school requirements.

My Uncle was taken from me when i was a little girl…i had only met him once i had heard that he was just the spitting image of my older brother…i miss him very much and i want to talk with him and my grandpa who passed when i was also alittle girl, i was 5 when he passed and my parents could not have afforded it to bring me and my little sister to go and see him before he passed, i miss him verry much…this year my great uncle passed and he was really young, i am not sure how young he was but i miss him verry much and he passed while i was at school and he lives in puerto rico and we had barley enough money to send my dad to go and be able to go to his funeral…i am 14 almost 15 and my uncle passed the day before my birthday…i believe that he saved my two older brothers from dying in a severe car crash where they had to use the jaws of life to get my second oldest brother out of the car…i cryed for days and i cryed for weeks when my grandfather passed and i cryed for a month when my great uncle passed because the last i had seen him was when i had just turned 13…i miss them all very much and i need to get a reading!!

He’s done all he can to make amends,but our family is destroyed, can you tell me if our family will be healed any time soon? I have prayed constantly for 4 years for a healing. I had a visit from my father and it was quite helpful, I buried him on my 50th BD, our special day. Also I’d love to see if my father knows what is going to happen to my brother when mother passes (mentally ill and 51). I hope you are able to help our family with answers to these questions. Theresa, I just adore you and respect your gift. Since I’m all the way in L.A., I’m wondering, if by chance you know of a reputable medium in the So Cal area? I’ve been struggling lately.
My sister is still suffering from the death of our father in 1991 – since 1999 she has had increasing and worsening health problems. I truly fear for her life (she’s becoming more suicidal) and would like to find out if you do “phone” readings as we are in Nevada (unless you WANT to come to Vegas?) Anything you could do to help her would be so wonderful….I leave the country at the end of the year and fear for her being alone with all her unresolved spiritual issues.
