Theresa Caputo, the star of TLC’s series Long Island Medium, says she was 28 when she was first introduced to the possibility that she was a medium. It took another five years for her to actually accept her gift.
“There’s a big difference from when I accepted it to who am I?” Caputo told us. She said she struggled with feeling, “I’m no different than anybody else. Why was I chosen to do this? Why is this my journey?”
The aftermath of 9/11 left her with clarity and a feeling of purpose for what she calls her role in the physical world. Now Caputo spends her days and nights taking her clients on an emotional and spiritual journey with the afterlife. She helps people find closure and/or reconnect some with loved ones who have passed.

Her wait time is over two years at this point, due to the popularity of the show.
Surprisingly, Caputo has built her career on word of mouth only and has done little to no marketing. When asked if she’s ready for what a TV series will bring as far as popularity, Caputo says: “Absolutely not. I still think this is like a school project. It’s so not reality yet for me. My life is overwhelming as it is, as of right now, my waiting list to get an appointment is… I don’t have any availability until January 2013.”

Hi Theresa, I love your show. I live in Wis. I lost my father 4 years come Sept. My mother is still with us at this time. My mom and dad were soul mates. Cancer took him in 3 months. It was so fast, my mom as us kids still morn him. He was my bestfriend. My niece lives in New York and if I could set a date with you so my family and I could see you. My daughter recently loss her fiancee in a motorcycle accident. They had a storybook romance that even made me jeolous. They had planned on marrying next month and start a family. She needs to be able to move on and will only be able to do that if she could communicate with him. His family has been treating her badly and this would really help her. My boyfriend is having so much difficulty with the passing of his mom who passed away last year from cancer. Although he is getting by with his day-to-day life, I believe that he is very much un-settled with her passing and I love him so much that I truly wish for him to have the much needed closure. Well what I really mean,if it’s safe,I have heard in the past that a spirit can be stuck or something like that,but before then I would love to know how else can you and I communicate or is it only in person. My name is Jacqueline. I lost my 15 year old son to brain cancer on November 28, 2009, nine days earlier on November 19, 2009 I lost my father to pancreatic cancer.
On November 11 I got the news my sons brain tumor was almost gone. At that point I decided to leave my son at the hospital getting chemo therapy so I could go to Florida to see my father possibly for the last time. Within the week my father died and my son went into a Coma. I never had a chance to say goodbye to my son. I need to make sure my son is ok and forgives me for leaving him. I need to know he is happy and with my father.

First and for most I would like to congratulate you on your gift and for sharing your gift with the world. I am writing you this letter as I am watching your show. I know it would probably be a long shot and that many people probably always write you to connect with the people they love. But I am doing it anyway. You see my father past when I was 14 after being in a coma for 2 years and every day I think of him if he heard me if he saw me when I turnned 15 did he see me graduate all the questions an only daughter has. Dear Theresa, I know I am probably about the umpteenth thousand persons that has asked for a reading, but I am not asking for myself but for my mother. My dad passed recently this year and we miss him so much. A few days ago I was telling my mom about you and your program and she just nodded as if she wasn’t sure of it to be real.
