Theresa Caputo, the star of TLC’s series Long Island Medium, says she was 28 when she was first introduced to the possibility that she was a medium. It took another five years for her to actually accept her gift.
“There’s a big difference from when I accepted it to who am I?” Caputo told us. She said she struggled with feeling, “I’m no different than anybody else. Why was I chosen to do this? Why is this my journey?”
The aftermath of 9/11 left her with clarity and a feeling of purpose for what she calls her role in the physical world. Now Caputo spends her days and nights taking her clients on an emotional and spiritual journey with the afterlife. She helps people find closure and/or reconnect some with loved ones who have passed.

Surprisingly, Caputo has built her career on word of mouth only and has done little to no marketing. When asked if she’s ready for what a TV series will bring as far as popularity, Caputo says: “Absolutely not. I still think this is like a school project. It’s so not reality yet for me. My life is overwhelming as it is, as of right now, my waiting list to get an appointment is… I don’t have any availability until January 2013.”

Theresa, my Mother passed away 7 ywars ago. We were so close we always took trips to Las Vegas just her and I.I have 1 son who is married to a wonderful woman who hates me for a reason I don”t know.I still treat her with love and respect I will not let her hate stay inside me, they have a daughter that is 2 who we love BIG TIME but we have to walk the line so we can see her. my daughter in law loves my husband and used to call him Dad and me Marlene.MY dad has remarried to a hateful women but I tilerate her and am cordial for my Dads sake.I have severe ostioarthtis which I hide my Pains from them also have fibromyalgia because I took care of my huband after a near fatal accident for 8 months I was a Medical Assit.Then a month later MY loving mother in law came to live with us. I took care of her here until one week before she died. Miss her too. THeresa I feel so unloved ,can you believe that at 57 I still miss her so much I still cry for her. Theresa if you can help me and let me know how my Mother is? I had a nick name for her. Please help me I feel so unloved and I despratly need to hear from my Mom.
I have in the past two or more yrs begining to have profetic dreams and at times they scare me. I think almost every day of my aunt who raised me and I hope she knows I miss her very very much. She was the only person who I could talk with. I just hope she is happy.
I sooo, never believed in an afterlife, but you are so convincing. For most of my life no one in my family died, then the bottom fell out. Everyone in my family is now gone. I feel lost with none of them to talk to. Would love to believe there is something after death, but what you see on TV could be so rigged. Theresa, My sister lost her youngest son 3 yrs. ago..they say he took an overdose of a drug. He has a daughter who was born AFTER he passed. The mother of his child will not let even the grandparents see her. She moved away from them. Can you find a way to help my sister connect for answers about his death. She questions the fact that he took pills that day, because of conversations they had right before his death. Please help her if you can. Thank you..you are awesome.

Dear Theresa, I love your show and what you do. You have such a wonderful personality and great commitment to help people. I lost my father in 1979 February 6th. He did from a brain tauma in England at the age of 57. I miss him so much and think of him all the time. I married in 1966 had two children over a 9 year period and divorced. I was single for 27 years and found my high school sweetheart 11 years ago and we married 2001. Dad knew Don but viewed him as a “muscle head” because he played football and wrestled at T. Clarke High School, Westbury. Dad being in the Air Force we were separated when station in the Philippines for 3 years. I never heard from Don while gone and when I returned I found out he was married and living in Philly. His mother never gave him my letters. I am hoping Dad is aware of my marriage and all the happiness I finally have in my life. Is Dad aware of his two grandsons my sister had and his great grandchildren, my oldest son Christopher has two, Makena and Pierce and my niece has a son, Josh. I know people must track you down and drive you crazy asking questions about their loved ones. If I lived on Long Island again (Mitchell Field) I would call and make an appointment but we are in Florida. You are so wonderful and have a great family. Your husband and children are an added joy to the show. I wish you all the best and happiness. As long as you are on the air I will watch your show it is fantastic.
