Theresa Caputo, the star of TLC’s series Long Island Medium, says she was 28 when she was first introduced to the possibility that she was a medium. It took another five years for her to actually accept her gift.
“There’s a big difference from when I accepted it to who am I?” Caputo told us. She said she struggled with feeling, “I’m no different than anybody else. Why was I chosen to do this? Why is this my journey?”
The aftermath of 9/11 left her with clarity and a feeling of purpose for what she calls her role in the physical world. Now Caputo spends her days and nights taking her clients on an emotional and spiritual journey with the afterlife. She helps people find closure and/or reconnect some with loved ones who have passed.

Her wait time is over two years at this point, due to the popularity of the show.
Surprisingly, Caputo has built her career on word of mouth only and has done little to no marketing. When asked if she’s ready for what a TV series will bring as far as popularity, Caputo says: “Absolutely not. I still think this is like a school project. It’s so not reality yet for me. My life is overwhelming as it is, as of right now, my waiting list to get an appointment is… I don’t have any availability until January 2013.”

Hello Theresa, My Father passed on Jan. 4th, 2010 very unexpectedly. We still do not know what his cause of death was. He had a troubled adult life, having been diagnosed with “manic depression” in his late 20’s, early 30’s. It led to many years of unhappiness within himself. He did not take his own life however he very much wanted his life to be over especially in the last couple of years . He was 79 years old when he passed. I would very much love to connect with him to find out what his cause of death was and if he has reached peace and happiness in his soul. These questions have kept me up at night for almost 2 years now, Thankyou kindly for your attention to this matter, and I want you to know how much I enjoy your show and the peace it brings to peoples lives. Since your show aired on TLC I have become an avid fan. I do have to admit I have always been a bit of a skeptic when it comes to spirits and the paranormal and psychics and such. I always felt it was a person that was really good at reading someone’s expressions and feeding off of information and emotions that the person being done shows, however after watching you and your abilities I am becomming a believer. Hi, I would like to meet with you sometime whenever it is convenient for you. i would like to reconnect with my great grandparents who passed away about 3 years ago. I since then have had a son and I just want to know if they know about him and if they are okay with me having him since I had him only being 17. I also want to know if the ghost my sister and I saw the night my great grandmother died at the exact time she died was my great grandfather who passed a few months earlier. because we believe it was him. and to this day we still can see that night clear as day. I also just would like to know if they’re proud of what I am doing because that would mean so much to me because I am doing my best everyday to give my son what he needs and make a good life for him even though I am a teen mom. i just would like to know that they see that. so if you could get back to me id appreciate it. Hi Theresa, in my heart I have always believed there is an “after life” I am thankful that there are those who have this gift and understand that they were blessed with this gift to help people.
I had a very challenging childhood by being an only child raised by my single parent bi-polar and schizophrenic mother. Although I know she loved me (she just recently passed) I would like to know that she’s ok and no longer suffering from mental illness. I just wish I could speak to her in her “right” mind.
I often think of other family members and people I care about who have passed.
It is my hope that I can meet or talk with you so I can obtain peace. God bless you and your family.

Hello . well i no there are way,s that the love ones that have passed in are life’s can let us no thing or talk to us some how and it is so exsitnig to no that you can do this i’m a mom of 4 kids my son 19 my two doughters 18 and 15 and my son that passed in1999 he would be turning 14 on the 21st of this mounth and i would like to no if he is mad at me or sad becouse i was not there when he was hit by the car that ran him over dose he blame me for leaveing him that day this is so hard to live with and i ask you Theresa can you help me just so i can stop thinking about it so much i no one day my sister had go to take him some flowers and she had taken her kids and my grandma and she had taken a pic of his head stone and his image was on there waving hi to them it was the best thing i had seen becouse i have a pic of him waving at me the same way and i want to no if may be that is him saying he’s not mad or sad i dont no mat be you can tell me thank you so much theresa …..

After watching your show the first time last night, I was in awe after you were able to find Steven’s mother at your friendly group gathering. As a former New Yorker (Flushing) I now live in Tampa but would fly to NY for a chance to meet with you “on the island”. It will be the 30th anniversary of losing my beloved father on 4/5/12 and it will be 12 years on 1/28/12 since I lost my absolute best friend, my mother. My sister still lives in Flushing so I would stay with her. I know you have a long waiting list but I live daily with terrible guilt and would hope that you could help me. You seem so down to earth,real and lots of fun – if I was still living in NY, I’d love to be your friend!!

I was born with this amazing gift and for years I was told it was the work of the devil. My answer always was how do you know it is not god and angles speaking to me. The works of a Italian up bringing.
Go fiqure!!! Having this gift as a small child caused me a great deal of pain.
