Theresa Caputo, the star of TLC’s series Long Island Medium, says she was 28 when she was first introduced to the possibility that she was a medium. It took another five years for her to actually accept her gift.
“There’s a big difference from when I accepted it to who am I?” Caputo told us. She said she struggled with feeling, “I’m no different than anybody else. Why was I chosen to do this? Why is this my journey?”
The aftermath of 9/11 left her with clarity and a feeling of purpose for what she calls her role in the physical world. Now Caputo spends her days and nights taking her clients on an emotional and spiritual journey with the afterlife. She helps people find closure and/or reconnect some with loved ones who have passed.

Her wait time is over two years at this point, due to the popularity of the show.
Surprisingly, Caputo has built her career on word of mouth only and has done little to no marketing. When asked if she’s ready for what a TV series will bring as far as popularity, Caputo says: “Absolutely not. I still think this is like a school project. It’s so not reality yet for me. My life is overwhelming as it is, as of right now, my waiting list to get an appointment is… I don’t have any availability until January 2013.”

I lost my husband 9 weeks ago from cancer. I feel so lost. I would really like to know if he is ok and has seen my parents. His last day was so good. Then his last 2 1/2 hours were so unbelievable. I just would like to hear from him.

I was at your SI show yesterday. You came up the stairs and passed right in front of us and started reading people to the left of where we were sitting (you were out of breath). Suddenly you said “who lost a husband while they were pregnant. Someone answered from below and you headed back down stairs. After reading that lady you said a father figure was coming thru. You then started to read a couple who was sitting on the same side of the room below where we were sitting. You asked about a trip to Italy in October. You said it was to celebrate a milestone. You asked about the the number 2. You asked who’s from Italy. You said something about the smell of flowers. They were not able to connect to what you were saying regarding this matter. I think this may have been a piggy back reading for me. I am going to Italy on October 2nd to celebrate my 10th Anniversary & 20 years that my husband and I have been together. My dads parents were both born in Italy. My dad got diagnosed with his illness and passed away within six weeks. He passed away before my husband and I started dating. I always felt that my dad sent this winderful man to me. My dad loved to garden and plant flowers. My dad worked two jobs to support our family. He was not home much. So when I was a little girl he would pick tulips for me & put them in a vase near my bed while I was sleeping. I would wake up and see the flowers there and know they were from my dad. I would get so excited to see them. My sister and sister in law also sent you a message about this. I would love to know what you think. I love you !! I would vey much like to find out how my brother is – he left too early (his deciion)and I am hoping he has been around to see or visits to see the family especially the new babies – he loved kids.We (brothers, sisters, neices, nephews, aunts, uncles you get the idea he was/is very loved) all miss him very, very much. Dear Theresa, I’m sending this to you with the knowledge that you get millions of e-mail a day from people just like me that just need or want answers, so ifyou never read this or i never get a reply, my keyboard persently is my way of finally getting this off my chest. To my a horrible story as short as possible, I lost both of my parents age 75 and 74 within 5 months of eachother. They gave me and my 4 brothers and sisters a wonderful life growing up. As the baby of the bunch they keep me close, while my other siblings moved away, i always lived close. I so regret not spending enough time with my parents. The guilt i feel about not being there for my mom at the end of her life is almost unbearable. I hope she will forgive me.

Hi from Texas! Im a happily married 35 year young women with 3 kidsI am currently going through some emotional things in my life. Is there anyone on the other side for me that can help me to understand more clearly? I would live to hear from you!! I have a son who is gifted but fears the images he sees also sees lots of yellow, green, red and purple spectrums. Any advise in that department would be helpful too. He’s been dealing with this since the age of 3 he is now 16….

Hi i have seen your show and i would really like to have a reading done with you. Both of my parents passed away three months apart in (09) My mom found out she had colon cancer and she was a nurse and wanted to pass at home so i took care of her until her last breathe. Then i got a call saying my dad was ill and that all the family thought he was waiting to see me before he passed and i would just like to get in touch with them so badly. Hi,I’m writing this in hopes to find out if you are ever here northern ky ?If not I have a nephew brad short his mom died in 2000 whom he was very close to.I’t 2012 and i believe he still in so much pain he cant move on ,hes not happy such a sweet and giving spirit but he also drinks alot I think because he misses her and cant move on.I feel so bad for him and wonder if you would be able to speak to him or what do see thank you his aunt and sister of arlene jo mcquesten

I am surrounded by truly wonderful friends that are very spiritual and would love to be able to have a chance to come see you. We all have lost someone very close to us in our lives , a daughter, mother, father and best friend. I feel you are the one I can turn to. In December 2011 I lost my Granddad, then just two-weeks later I lost my older sister unexpectedly. I have really been going through a horribly devastating time dealing with that and then my Uncle died the day after my sister’s birthday. I SO need you to help me with this. wow, dont know how to start…but i have several family memeber who paased away dat i wasnt able to say good bye, my aunt passed away she was very dearly to me, then a month and a half later my grandmother who was like a mother to me passed away and i couldnt go to her funeral either…abouut almost 6 yrs my father passed away and i couldnt call him the way i shoud and dat has always hunt me in my heart and about three years ago my brother died, we didnt get alone at all and i couldnt go to his fuenral to say good bye..now my other brother who i love vvery much passed away last year,mmm it hurt me so much i couldnt say good bye..wow, it hurts so much that i have lost so many important people in my life and wasnt able to say good bye…i will like to know if they are doing fine..i love them all and im sorry i wasnt der to say good bye.
