Theresa Caputo, the star of TLC’s series Long Island Medium, says she was 28 when she was first introduced to the possibility that she was a medium. It took another five years for her to actually accept her gift.
“There’s a big difference from when I accepted it to who am I?” Caputo told us. She said she struggled with feeling, “I’m no different than anybody else. Why was I chosen to do this? Why is this my journey?”
The aftermath of 9/11 left her with clarity and a feeling of purpose for what she calls her role in the physical world. Now Caputo spends her days and nights taking her clients on an emotional and spiritual journey with the afterlife. She helps people find closure and/or reconnect some with loved ones who have passed.

Her wait time is over two years at this point, due to the popularity of the show.
Surprisingly, Caputo has built her career on word of mouth only and has done little to no marketing. When asked if she’s ready for what a TV series will bring as far as popularity, Caputo says: “Absolutely not. I still think this is like a school project. It’s so not reality yet for me. My life is overwhelming as it is, as of right now, my waiting list to get an appointment is… I don’t have any availability until January 2013.”

Dear Teresa, Last April my husband of 19.75 years divorced me, and my mom suddenly passed in May. I am so lost, I can’t even describe it. It is the most horrible feeling I have ever experienced. I didn’t get to tell my mom the things I wanted to. She died when I was away from her for 12 hours.I am so lost. I feel dehumanized. I don’t feel real. I wish I could just evaporate into a mist. I have watched your show a few times and you are amazing. Not sure I believe in Mediums but would really need to know that my mother is ok. She pass about 5 years ago. She died suddenly and my sister diedd suddenly three weeks before she did. I also lost another sister several years before her and several other very close loved ones. I just seemed to be surrouned by death. My mother was truly my best friend in the world and I just can’t seem to get past her death and I need to know if she is ok in order to move on. Hi, my name is Skylar and i watched your show for the first time, And i love it thank you. (: but also I might have a story that may touch you in a way. Just now 5 minutes ago i found out somebody in my family just dies today, I was not really close to him but i remember when i was little. He died at 98 years old. I also have another story, My grandmother died a few years ago at 98 years old, Everyday since i was born I went to her house for Dinner every Sunday Since i was a newborn ever since i could come home. My grandmother was very close to me and very close to my heart. She will be dearly missed.. <3 And yesterday recently my boyfriend broke up with me and every since i have felt Comforted by something. I feel like it might be her. I am only 12 years old and my Mom and I were talking about somebody getting in touch with me.. My brother has her chair in his room, when i go near the chair i get the chills and feel she is here with me.. (: Im asking you to please get in touch with me i would be so happy and i really want to talk to my grandmother after so many years of not seeing her. Just a note to all of you commenting – #1 – I don’t think Theresa will actually read all these comments and reach out to you to set up an appointment, so you should try calling the number above in this article or sending an email to the address provided. #2 – Because of the success of her show, Theresa is obviously incredibly busy and backed up with appointments and requests — I was hoping to get a reading with her myself but then saw that her waitlist is currently at TWO YEARS! I have had readings in the past with other mediums and would suggest that you look into finding someone with more availability if you feel that you urgently need closure and answers and cannot wait two years. I live in NH and know of two mediums; one of which I have had readings with who is amazing, and another who I have not yet had a reading with but have heard great things about. Keep in mind that before this TV show, Theresa did not have this level of publicity and so forth, so she was probably much more available. There are plenty of other mediums out there who don’t have a TV show who are much more readily available!

My name is jena. I know you have a lot of request for your special talent but i felt i needed to contact you. I have always been sort of intuitive myself with dreams and feelings. I have dreams that come true if not always the exact way i dream them and i get feelings about events that that may be good or bad. I think im some kind of danger but i cant tell where its coming from. For the past month i have had reoccuring dreams of my death. It doesnt always happen in the dream the same way though. Sometimes im kidnapped and killed. Sometimes im just shot or stabbed and cant get help, but it is always the same person. Ever since the dreams started i have felt this sense of fear and loss. I feel like the person just keeps changing his mind and it is confusing my ablility to figure the situation out. Last night it got stranger. I dreamed i was in this house i’ve never been in before an i walked in to everyone important to me shot to death. i think that part i figured out. i think it telling me im afraid of death because i dont wanna lose the people i love. I dont wanna be the one to cause them so much pain by my death. I really need someone elses opinion about this. When i try to think about everything my senses get so confused that i cant see or interpret what may be about to happen. I’m happy you have a show only in the fact it helped me find someone to ask who i feel has a better sense than i do. someone who wont be confused be all the different variables of the different but same ending dreams.
