Theresa Caputo, the star of TLC’s series Long Island Medium, says she was 28 when she was first introduced to the possibility that she was a medium. It took another five years for her to actually accept her gift.
“There’s a big difference from when I accepted it to who am I?” Caputo told us. She said she struggled with feeling, “I’m no different than anybody else. Why was I chosen to do this? Why is this my journey?”
The aftermath of 9/11 left her with clarity and a feeling of purpose for what she calls her role in the physical world. Now Caputo spends her days and nights taking her clients on an emotional and spiritual journey with the afterlife. She helps people find closure and/or reconnect some with loved ones who have passed.

Surprisingly, Caputo has built her career on word of mouth only and has done little to no marketing. When asked if she’s ready for what a TV series will bring as far as popularity, Caputo says: “Absolutely not. I still think this is like a school project. It’s so not reality yet for me. My life is overwhelming as it is, as of right now, my waiting list to get an appointment is… I don’t have any availability until January 2013.”

I have recently seen your show, and I totally support what your doing. I have recently took on a responsability that was so overwhelming that even I can’t handle it sometimes. When my wife was 9 years old, her father died from cancer. She was pretty much on her own from then on. Her mother was angry about being left in America alone. Her mom came from Korea and never learned to live here. My wife had a hard childhood. She feels alone e en with the extended family we have together .
She had two brothers, both died when they reached 55. I can put into words how hard she has had it. Her mother left at juvy at 12 and she bounced around from foster family to juvy Tim 17. We met when she was 27. Been married 28 years.
Her emotional life is hard she never was able to have closer with her life and deaths. She really needs to hear validation for her life. I try everyday, but it does not really work. She needs to hear it from her dad.

Hi Theresa! My name is Shannon and I watch you all the time with my 11 yr old daughter. I have a lot of questions for you and my daughter and I really want you to do a reading for us. My dad passed away on Oct 3 2011, and ever since he exhailed his last breath in his hospital bed in my mom’s livingroom I have lost hope and faith in God. I took care of my dad during the last 3 wks of his life. I was the one to administer the ever so powerful drug morphine to him every hour til he was looking like he was sound asleep…resting comfortably. Little did I know…the more I administered the meds the closer I was getting my dad to the end of his life. It has taken a toll on me … knowing my hand was the one that pushed my loving father into a medical induced coma and he was never to wake again. He was 56 yrs old and one day diagnosed with lung and bladder cancer. Ultimately he was given 3 wks to live and he lived 3wks and 5 days…I need to see you. I still almost 2 yrs later cannot go on…I want just 1 min with him to make sure he knows I love him and I did my best when he was sick. I feel so responsible…I am so confused…I know that people die everyday Theresa. I have worked at nursing homes and handicap group homes for more than ten yrs…so ya I have seen death many times…I just can’t stop missing my father. I feel as if I am searching everywhere everyday for him but can’t find him anywhere…I just need to know if he knows I love and loved him so much…my biggest regret is not enjoying the time we were together…life just flies by and I didn’t realize that I took so many people and so many things for granted…Theresa….please…please your our only hope to maybe have some peace of mind ….I think of my dad every min of everyday.
