Theresa Caputo, the star of TLC’s series Long Island Medium, says she was 28 when she was first introduced to the possibility that she was a medium. It took another five years for her to actually accept her gift.
“There’s a big difference from when I accepted it to who am I?” Caputo told us. She said she struggled with feeling, “I’m no different than anybody else. Why was I chosen to do this? Why is this my journey?”
The aftermath of 9/11 left her with clarity and a feeling of purpose for what she calls her role in the physical world. Now Caputo spends her days and nights taking her clients on an emotional and spiritual journey with the afterlife. She helps people find closure and/or reconnect some with loved ones who have passed.

Her wait time is over two years at this point, due to the popularity of the show.
Surprisingly, Caputo has built her career on word of mouth only and has done little to no marketing. When asked if she’s ready for what a TV series will bring as far as popularity, Caputo says: “Absolutely not. I still think this is like a school project. It’s so not reality yet for me. My life is overwhelming as it is, as of right now, my waiting list to get an appointment is… I don’t have any availability until January 2013.”

Hello Theresa, I know you will know what I mean when I say I have this strong sence that we need to meet. I have told my husband that our next vacation needs to be to Long Island, that’s how much I feel I need this reading. I don’t know how to schedule an appointment with you but truly want to know how. My daughter just left for college and I know how much this reading could be for her future and for her to blossom, I feel she holds herself back waiting to hear why, and my heart tells me you have the answers. oh how I wish I believed..As crazy as my story is…. My whole childhood was spent with “my Aunty”, who I ADORED!! When she was in her late 70’s, she developed sepsis & ended up in a rehab center. She was soooo loved!!!! Her last day on earth,,,my sister was there for the day & I came to relieve her for the night shift. When I got there I knew immediately it wasn’t good. My sister left us so I could have my time with her. I saw that Aunty was leaving and wanted to beg her to stay when I noticed my deceased “Pap” (her Dad} on the other side of the bed & knew I had to be strong and tell her it was ok to go. I’ve been soooo broken since, because I told her it was ok to go with Pap, and her daughter wasnt there to say goodbye. Several years later my precious Daddy passed while I was on the phone with him and I can’t get passed it.I’m sure it’s because of my actions from the past.
I have a grandchild that lost her father, he died of an over dosage of drugs, after many years of drug abuse.
The child is very anxious to contact her father, in an attempt to understand why her father died.

Dear Theresa, I lost my son Kristopher Hugo Mergele, on August 11,2013. I loved him so, so, much. I Still hear and fell his presence because he died in my house. Me and my husband went for a walk with my grand daughter Madison,and when we came back he was on the floor looking up, I started CPR right away till my knees bled. EMS came and STAR FLIGHT. I knew he was gone.I love him so much and we all miss him. I love you Kris, till I see you again, bye.

Teresa, I would love to have a reading, but I live in Fort Worth, TX. Do you do readings via skype? Do you have any plans to come to Fort Worth, TX anytime soon? My family is all in upstate NY and I never got to say good-by to my dad when he passed because it was so fast. I would also like to contact my husband’s father to find the circumstances of his death to find out if it was a family member and find his other family so my husband could make contact with them to see if he has other siblings. We do not believe they know about him.
