Theresa Caputo, the star of TLC’s series Long Island Medium, says she was 28 when she was first introduced to the possibility that she was a medium. It took another five years for her to actually accept her gift.
“There’s a big difference from when I accepted it to who am I?” Caputo told us. She said she struggled with feeling, “I’m no different than anybody else. Why was I chosen to do this? Why is this my journey?”
The aftermath of 9/11 left her with clarity and a feeling of purpose for what she calls her role in the physical world. Now Caputo spends her days and nights taking her clients on an emotional and spiritual journey with the afterlife. She helps people find closure and/or reconnect some with loved ones who have passed.

Her wait time is over two years at this point, due to the popularity of the show.
Surprisingly, Caputo has built her career on word of mouth only and has done little to no marketing. When asked if she’s ready for what a TV series will bring as far as popularity, Caputo says: “Absolutely not. I still think this is like a school project. It’s so not reality yet for me. My life is overwhelming as it is, as of right now, my waiting list to get an appointment is… I don’t have any availability until January 2013.”

I believe myself and family members have experienced spirit visits . The latest was Sunday morning my grandaughter found the container of salt in her underware drawer. It was missing from the kitchen shelf when I came down earlier that morning. My husband left me in 2004 which I did not seem coming one day we were good then the next day when i got home from work he was packed up to leave. No to say I was heart broken after 20 years. He was the love of my life. Then in the same year my best friend and mother died while she was under my care. I have been so depressed and still am.. Theresa, Hi I love your show and your family. I don’t know where to begin. My mom pasted March 12, 2013 (but it really was 3/11/13 my dads birthday) They put that on the death certificate so it wouldn’t remind him of his day (long story) Anyways, my mom and dad retired and lived in Florida for 17 years. We are a very close family, six children and now with spouses and grand children we total about 40 now and live in upstate new York. About 3 years ago my dad was seeing a lot of signs of her forgetting more and more. We made the decision to move them back home so we could all help. She was put in a nursing home last January. She passed as I said the day of my dad’s birthday. Us kids went on Sunday March 10th to celebrate and that was the last time I saw her. She died in her sleep. They would have celebrated their 58th wedding anniversirey April 1st. I have been having a tough time with her passing. I’m trying to shorten the story. So anyways my dad called me New Years Day and said he was getting re-married…….. What, to who my Aunt Bernice (my mom’s sister) He is lonely and has never been without my mom. My Aunt has been married and lost her first husband and remarried and she treated her badly. I could write a book about this…. But I’ve tried to ask mom how she felt about this and have not received any sign. I understand all this as my siblings do too. I just want to make sure mom is ok with what they are doing. I know my mom can hear me, because two days before Christmas it rained and I wasn’t sure we would have a white Christmas. Well I asked her All I wanted was snow. My husband and I went out to dinner with his boys and family and when we walked out that night it started snowing. I know that was my mom’s present to me because she knew I love this time of year and was depressed.. I called my dad on Christmas and told him I received the present from Mommy and he came back and said a White Christmas…. Anyways, I want to be supportive of my dad and be happy which he will how can I ask my mom if she is ok with this. Thank you Debbie
I would love to have a reading with you. I have become a true fan of yours and admire you as a person and as a medium. I love that you say it just the way it is. Your sky diving episode and motorcycle episode made me laugh like no other. My purpose for this reading is that my mother passed away in June 2009 before I was able to get to her. I was on a flight half way to her and never had the opportunity to see her or say my good byes. Then two years later my mother in law also passed away. This has been a very trying time for our family and to know that my mom is peaceful and happy would mean millions. We have used a ouija board and strange things have been happening to us. We used it somewhat incorrectly and we are experiencing paranormal activity.
