Theresa Caputo, the star of TLC’s series Long Island Medium, says she was 28 when she was first introduced to the possibility that she was a medium. It took another five years for her to actually accept her gift.
“There’s a big difference from when I accepted it to who am I?” Caputo told us. She said she struggled with feeling, “I’m no different than anybody else. Why was I chosen to do this? Why is this my journey?”
The aftermath of 9/11 left her with clarity and a feeling of purpose for what she calls her role in the physical world. Now Caputo spends her days and nights taking her clients on an emotional and spiritual journey with the afterlife. She helps people find closure and/or reconnect some with loved ones who have passed.

Surprisingly, Caputo has built her career on word of mouth only and has done little to no marketing. When asked if she’s ready for what a TV series will bring as far as popularity, Caputo says: “Absolutely not. I still think this is like a school project. It’s so not reality yet for me. My life is overwhelming as it is, as of right now, my waiting list to get an appointment is… I don’t have any availability until January 2013.”

Hi Teresa saw your show tonight and thought it was so cool that you help so many people with closure. I to have been through a lot in the past 7 years. I lost my Grandmother a month ago today, I took care of her everyday for the last 13 years, I feel like I cheated her from life. She had cancer and I took her to hospital to get pain control and she never came home. I promised her she would come home. I cant handle not know how she is and if she understands. I would love to meet u. I would like closure to my dad’s death and want to know that he is still around me and i did the right thing. I just want to know that he accepts my decisions and he still is there for me . My father passed away 3 1/2 years ago and I have never had a dream or a contact from him, but a dear friend passed away 1 1/2 years ago and she is always in my dreams. In fact, the dreams seem so real, but I will my father to enter my dreams and it doesn’t happen. Can you explain this?
hi i know you probably wont read this or never write back but almost a year ago i lost my first baby. i had him at 17 weeks. i dont know what happened but i just want to know he is ok. i am currently pregnant again and i for some reason keep thinking maybe its a recarnation of him. its going to be a boy and is due the same month i lost my first. i am so confused and feel like im going to look at this baby and just think what if you were my first or are my first. please im only 18 and i dont know what to do.
Hi Theresa – you are truly remarkable! I would so much like to be able to either talk, meet or e-mail with you. My son hasn’t spoken to me for almost a year even though he sends me an e-mail from time to time. He just had a baby daughter (8 mos. old) whom I have not been able to meet!! We were so close but I think he must have gone thru a bit of a nervous breakdown – giving up his brother’s family (a niece 10 yrs. old & nephew 12 yrs. old), his sister and me. I dream about him constantly and of couse his daughter. He has not married the mother of his daughter as of now. I live in Medford, NY as does my son! I just truly need some answers.
