Theresa Caputo, the star of TLC’s series Long Island Medium, says she was 28 when she was first introduced to the possibility that she was a medium. It took another five years for her to actually accept her gift.
“There’s a big difference from when I accepted it to who am I?” Caputo told us. She said she struggled with feeling, “I’m no different than anybody else. Why was I chosen to do this? Why is this my journey?”
The aftermath of 9/11 left her with clarity and a feeling of purpose for what she calls her role in the physical world. Now Caputo spends her days and nights taking her clients on an emotional and spiritual journey with the afterlife. She helps people find closure and/or reconnect some with loved ones who have passed.

Her wait time is over two years at this point, due to the popularity of the show.
Surprisingly, Caputo has built her career on word of mouth only and has done little to no marketing. When asked if she’s ready for what a TV series will bring as far as popularity, Caputo says: “Absolutely not. I still think this is like a school project. It’s so not reality yet for me. My life is overwhelming as it is, as of right now, my waiting list to get an appointment is… I don’t have any availability until January 2013.”

Dearest Theresa, may I say first that, I can only imagine what a burden and yet a gift, you carry.
Like all others I have suffered many tragedies in life but one thing has always kept me from true closure. When my mom passed in hospital she was desperately trying to tell my daughter and me something. I suffered a breakdown after her passing and was diagnosed with bi-polar and have never been quite the same since.I was wondering how to get with you or if your staff could point me to a reputable medium in my area of upstate Carolina’s near Charlotte, NC. My dear Mother has suffered so much since my stepfather passed almost 2 years ago. She has battled lung cancer, tumors of the eye, etc. I would really love for her to hear from her late husband. I would also love it if you would tell me where my camera is. Is it lost or stolen?
My husband passed almost 2 years ago – my son has no closure – my son can’t go forward with his life. He needs help…… My husband was the love of my life but I didn’t tell him often enough. My name is Wendy Layer I understand that u have many people looking for help in order to more forward in there lives my story is a bit different. You see i have been very ill the past few months have 7 doctors all that cannot give me an answer to what is wrong with me. I have just recently spent 18 days in the hospital with 5 blood clots, a pulmonary emblism in my right lung with 3 blood transfusions. Alot for any person to go through in just 3 weeks. I am 43 years young with a four year old son and spend my days doctor hopping with no answers to why this has happened to me. I have many sleepless nights and frustrated days with no conclusions. I fear the worst that one day i will not be here to see my son grow up. I am just looking for some sort of insight or direction. Hi Teresa my name is BLanca Perez i saw your show yesterday and I believe u can see and feel things. My family and I need your help my step father was sentence on march 2011 to life in prison they never found any prove or physical evidence against him and they told us that they were still going to sentence him because all they need it was the victims word against him we been fighting the case but every attorney we talked to say that it’s a hard case and that they can’t do much for him and that he will do life in prison I don’t want my stepdad to be there for the rest of his life we need him with us we know his innocent thats why we keep fighting and we need to know if we will ever be able to prove my stepdads innocence if he will ever be free again and what made those people accused him of something that they knew it was all a lie why would they do that to him? I know you are extremely busy, hearing that you have at least a year waiting list and reading through some of the e-mails that people have sent you. I dont know if my e-mail will ever reach you or if it does, if you will have time to read it. Either way I guess is okay. Anyway, my beautiful son passed away on August 25, 2011 and I am just struggling really bad with my loss. If this gets to you I would like to meet with you. I miss him deeply. I live in Tennessee but I will do whatever I have to do.
