Theresa Caputo, the star of TLC’s series Long Island Medium, says she was 28 when she was first introduced to the possibility that she was a medium. It took another five years for her to actually accept her gift.
“There’s a big difference from when I accepted it to who am I?” Caputo told us. She said she struggled with feeling, “I’m no different than anybody else. Why was I chosen to do this? Why is this my journey?”
The aftermath of 9/11 left her with clarity and a feeling of purpose for what she calls her role in the physical world. Now Caputo spends her days and nights taking her clients on an emotional and spiritual journey with the afterlife. She helps people find closure and/or reconnect some with loved ones who have passed.

Her phone number that was previously listed here is no longer in service, so we removed from the post. When we last talked to Theresa (January 2012), she told us the best way to reach her is via her new website at www.theresacaputo.com. This was an update to what TLC previously provided (Longislandmedium@gmail.com). That email address we have tried and have never gotten a response. Her wait time is over two years at this point, due to the popularity of the show.
Surprisingly, Caputo has built her career on word of mouth only and has done little to no marketing. When asked if she’s ready for what a TV series will bring as far as popularity, Caputo says: “Absolutely not. I still think this is like a school project. It’s so not reality yet for me. My life is overwhelming as it is, as of right now, my waiting list to get an appointment is… I don’t have any availability until January 2013.”

Where I live we have no mediums because in my world the bible speaks against mediums and psychics. That evil can come in the form of spiritualists, psychics and mediums. That Satan knows of our past and has everything to gain by pretending to be a loved one from Heaven. I look at the high prices of mediums & start to wonder … There is no price on helping people.
I have been burdened for almost 7 years of the death of someone. My family and the few friends I have left say physically I am slowly dying of a broken heart, and that it truly shows how strong the love was. My health is slowly on a downward spiral with no explanation of why. No doctor can explain and I have been to many. I have had friends tell me, if I had your life I would’ve killed myself by now.
I do not know why I am writing or what I believe anymore… I saw John Edwards in a group meeting with 70 people a few years back. Drove 5 hours to get there and I scrimped for that $500 for that ticket. He never even looked at me once during that session.

I would so love to meet you and talk with you. The last 5 years have been traumatic and saddening. I have suffered the loss of both partents, and their deaths were traumatic, my beloved pet and now my job which, came as a total shock. I need closure on my parents, and I want to know if they see our journey of adoption that we are on.

I want soooo much to talk to you. I have been through a very traumatic three years. First I lost my job, which I loved, and was not able to find another job, so I applied early for my social security benefits, then I lost my mother on October 19, 2010. I still can’t believe it, I still can’t get beyond it, I still can’t stop crying. To top it off, my dear friend, whom I cared for to the end, passed away on September 1, 2011. I went into a very deep depression, and am still not completely back. Theresa, the loss of my mother is the hardest thing I have ever had to deal with. She was such a strong person, in fact; you might even call her “difficult”. She was totally Italian in every way. She was also health conscious, ate right, took her vitamins, but….she was diagnosed with leukemia in August 2010, and passed away two months later……what??!! I want to know that she is happy,that she is at peace, who came for her, that she hears me talk to her, that she sees me cry for her, that she is near when I go to the cemetary to place flowers….whatever you can tell me. I am having so much trouble moving on. Thank you.

I grew up in Hicksville too. I graduated in 1986. I am amazed at what you do. My brother was killed years ago on his way from school (Old Country Rd School)in May 1978 his name was Patrick. I always wanted to have someone like you reach out to see if my brother was reaching out to me. I grew up with such a deep hole in my stomach. We had some many wonderful people in Hicksville that helped my family. I remember working with a lady name Pat Caputo (at a hairdressing place). She really helped me and she knew my mom very well.
