Theresa Caputo, the star of TLC’s series Long Island Medium, says she was 28 when she was first introduced to the possibility that she was a medium. It took another five years for her to actually accept her gift.
“There’s a big difference from when I accepted it to who am I?” Caputo told us. She said she struggled with feeling, “I’m no different than anybody else. Why was I chosen to do this? Why is this my journey?”
The aftermath of 9/11 left her with clarity and a feeling of purpose for what she calls her role in the physical world. Now Caputo spends her days and nights taking her clients on an emotional and spiritual journey with the afterlife. She helps people find closure and/or reconnect some with loved ones who have passed.

Her wait time is over two years at this point, due to the popularity of the show.
Surprisingly, Caputo has built her career on word of mouth only and has done little to no marketing. When asked if she’s ready for what a TV series will bring as far as popularity, Caputo says: “Absolutely not. I still think this is like a school project. It’s so not reality yet for me. My life is overwhelming as it is, as of right now, my waiting list to get an appointment is… I don’t have any availability until January 2013.”

My mother passed away in 2005 for no apparent reason. She woke up one Monday morning and could not speak. She was taken to the emergency room and several tests were given but nothing showed up. They were moving her to a room that night and her blood pressure started dropping and the next morning, she passed away. The family has often wondered if her stepdaughter had anything to do with her death. It still haunts me today as to what really happened to her. I just discovered you this Sunday. I watched all of the episodes that day. I texted all of my female relatives to tune in. I cannot watch you without a box of kleenex beside me. I lost my mom 3 yrs ago from Dementia…..I never got to say goodbye (which not a day goes by that I am so MAD ) My brother took over all her decisions when she was sick.well when my mom passed there was no wake no funeral nothing in the paper…is she cremated ? I love your show: your honesty and true ability to help people, to help them to heal. Most of all, I have to tell you that I love hearing your Long Island voice,comments and reactions. You make me cry; you make me laugh and smile. I moved away from Long Island twenty-five years ago and there has never been a day that I have not missed “my people.” Growing up on Long Island is like being from another country/state in the United States. Not only do we speak differently, but we really do think differently than the rest of the country. My feet are still rooted in the sand at Jones Beach; I am still driving down the parkway headed to the ocean in my dreams. Continue to do your wonderful healing. I do feel for you having so many requests for help, and if you are anything like me you want to help everyone but there are only so many hours in a day.
My request is for a group reading with my dad and my 5 sisters. We are all 2 yrs. apart and we are a VERY close family. My mom was the closest to me and I took care of her in her many years of suffering with 5 cancers, kidney failure, open heart surgery, etc. just to name a few things we as a family of 7 endured together. My mom was the world to my Dad for 43 years. Since my mom’s passing in June 20009 my dad has just sat in a chair and watched t.v. all day and says he is just waiting to die to be with her. He is depressed, lonely and unbelieveably lost since her death. I have often said my mom was an angel on earth becasue of the people she impacted in such a positive way. The year after my mom passed her best friend from 1yr. old died, the friends husband died in the same year and my mom’s brother in law also passed. They are all in heaven together having a party and drinking coffee…LOL. I KNOW if my Dad could know she is o.k., she’d tell him from beyond to get off the couch, and live. We’ve tried everything, medication, therapy, etc. He lived for her and has stopped living inside since her death. So very sad. He will be 76 this year and my mom died at 68. We live in CT and would travel to anywhere you wanted to meet with you. I will pray for your call/email.

As a 60 mother did all the work in the home. As a husband that wouldnt lift a finger no matter what.
Hot summer days and she slaved in the kitchen.
2 children had difficulties in school. Had to help tudor us.
To make end meet because of my fathers drinking,spending and non rsponsibility for the family. We had up to 7 boarders living in our home.
She would have the family (5) eatng in the living
room
while the boarders ate in the kitchen dinning area. Between making supper, serving supper and cleaning. No dishwasher. Laundry, us kids, breakfast for the boarders, making lunches for the boarders and getting her kids off to school.
There is a lot more.
My Mom has suffered for so so long and continues even if she does not show it. This is just how she is.
I am tired and sad for my Mom. I think she need some answers to help her go on before she does her self.
I want my Moms few years left to hopefully give closure and make her happy inside or comforted.
I have not mentioned one of the worst things that had happened to her 8 years ago as this is really something i or she would like to talk about publicly. ie on here.
My Mom is scared to fly and may not be able to even cross the border as she had to take the rap for something my Father did when we where kids.
I m not sure if you travel or travel close to where she lives. Anything would be so much appreciated.
She went to a medium and i had to drag her. She went but it was so so disapointing.
My Mom has a heart of gold and has not been jaded by her lifes experiences. I just want one thing for her. I want closure and for her to know that all tht she has done in her life was not in vain.
Sorry for the long winded email. I just say you on TV for the first time and you say it as it is.
