NEW! Is Alaskan Bush People Fake? Does It Matter?

Viewers of Discovery Channel’s Alaskan Bush People have been wondering if the four episodes of the Brown family’s adventures in the wilderness are all they’re going to get. The new show Siberian Cut takes over the Tuesday night time slot and no new episodes of Alaskan Bush People are currently scheduled.

[Update: A new episode of Alaskan Bush People, titled “The Wild Life,” premieres Sunday, June 15, at 10pm ET/PT on Discovery Channel. Based on the show’s description, it sounds like it might be a highlights/recap/additional unaired footage type of show: “After facing unparalleled obstacles, the Browns reflect on their past year of living in the Alaskan Bush while providing surprise revelations about the family’s lifestyle.”

Last seen, the Brown family suffered another setback as the boat they were using to scout a new home in southeast Alaska hit an object, took on water and sank at the dock. The family made it off the boat safely, but were left with an uncertain future.

They can’t possibly let the show end like that, can they?

Well, the news here is that there is no news. According to a Discovery Channel spokesman, the network has not announced whether or not Alaskan Bush People will be returning.

As for the Brown family, all nine of them were in Los Angeles in January for the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour and were on a panel to promote the show, which at the time was scheduled to air on Animal Planet. (So no, they didn’t starve or freeze or anything after their boat went down in Episode 4.) You can learn more about them and see some pretty interesting photos of the family at their official website. Also, do read this article by Zaz Hollander of Alaska Dispatch, who did some investigating into some of the behind-the-scenes aspects of the show that have been debated in these recaps.

At the panel, Billy Brown summed up the origin of his family’s Alaskan adventure as well as how the TV show came into existence:

“I was born in Fort Worth, Texas, and my family died when I was 16, and I kind of hit the road. When Ami and I got together, we traveled all over the place, and we found that as we were going places, we never were really content where we were. We kept getting we’d go to the country, and it wasn’t really enough country. We kept getting deeper and deeper in, and then, when Alaska opened up to us, it was like a it was like a ready made home to us. And when we got up I have written children’s books for my kids and stuff and a book about my life, One Wave at a Time, and our guys went in when you go to the harbor shacks and stuff, we get Internet every once in a while, and our guys went in, Bam especially, and he put a website for the kids’ books. And through that, a guy got in touch with us, and we ended up here. And I am the one that didn’t want to come. …

This is, you know, not what we had planned. We spent 30 years of our lives trying to stay as far away from this kind of stuff as we could, and people. And we discussed it a lot, and I guess … it was Ami that really talked me into it more that we thought it would be cool if people could really see how we live because I don’t think you guys know people who really still live that way, because it’s not a movie. It’s us.”

  1. Haha I’m a carpenter by trade, I call bs on the show.. They barter for wood and materials.. I get that.. Possible maybe.. But the generator they bartered for was completely different to the one they first looked at.. Suddenly the generator is brand new.. They shows a fraud

  2. I love the show, the way they live, their values. I hope you bring it back, we need more shows like this. God bless the Brown family.

  3. I agree with most here, I too love The Brown’s! ! Please bring them back, my family & I enjoy watching, the reruns are getting old though.. I certainly hope they are getting paid like the rest of reality celebs. Love them all!
    Hope they’re well.
    Best wishes.

  4. The show is great entertainment. I only wish that it was not scripted and such but that is reality tv never reality.

  5. I have only seen one show. The family seems very happy and good to each other. I hope to see more of the Brown Family. Please keep this one on the air. It’s refreshing to see such a close family that works together and loves the simple life. I look forward to watching more of them.

  6. I absolutely Cannot believe people are praising this family & one of the goofiest shows I’ve Ever seen! It’s obvious the Whole family is ‘pretending ‘ to be something they Obviously Are Not! This show is a Joke ! As are the ‘boys’, the ‘accents’ ( ever-changing!) & Hardly a True Representation of Life in the Alaskan Bush!! We’ve All been misled-it only took me less time ( maybe from the start to first commercial ) to determine this ‘enlightening look into Bush-living was/has Got to be a Joke! Like Honey Boo-Boo embarassed Me as a True GA girl-I Imagine , True Alaskans have Got to be Insulted

  7. I also want to say why change the name of the show? Your making it so hard to find. Please put this family back on as the Alaskan Bush people and quit trying to replace it with other shows . It is the best show on the discovery channel .I LOVE THIS FAMILY!!!!!!!!

  8. I love this show please bring it back.this family is amazing .I love that the family is so close to each other and so respectful towards each other .this is the kinda respect our children at this day and age should act like .my heart goes out to them . I have seven children my self ,six of them boys and I wish I would have lived like these people .if everyone took a page life from these people we would have a much better world to live in .in stead of all these rich brats on tv who seem to throw their money in everyone’s faces and acting like they donate to good causes .my grandchildren love this show too .they ask if we can go live in the Bush so no one can bug us .they say just family grandma .I love it. I will watch and record every repeat if I have too. Just for a lesson to my family on what life and loves about .the browns nailed it. May God bless this family for ever.

  9. I understand there have been some reports questioning whether this family is really living in the bush full time but regardless the show is very entertaining and lets you experience the Alaskan wilderness firsthand and that was enough for me to get hooked.
It is kind of like a reality show where a whole family is forced to live in the Alaskan wilderness in the worst possible condition and it was very interesting to me.

  10. AP airs those four episodes several times a week. I sure hope the Browns are getting paid. Also, look at how long people are still talking about the show, asking for new episodes, and watching the reruns over and over. Sounds like there is money to be made.

  11. PLEASE BRING THE SHOW BACK!! WE ALL LOVED IT! My heart and love goes out to the Brown Family. I know they might not ever see this comment but they truly inspire me how they “Just Keep Going.” After 3 failed attempts to make a home for their family. They pick up their spirits and with their belongings in the ocean floor – they move on and start new.

  12. i am not a fan of reality shows, but this one was so interesting that i got hooked on it. i could care less about the Browns monetary wealth. watching the family work together in the beauty of alaska is enough for me. i do not care if it is all for real or not, it is certainly a credit to the other reality shows which are mainly just junk.

    • I agree. We love the show and want to see them get back on there feet.I really hope they bring them back. They ARE REALITY,not just some other rich brats and egotistical people or all the other reality shows that really show kids it is good to be bad and nasty! What is on T.V. now and some of the music is what is influencing our children.Of course we all know they or the government don’t care as long as they make their money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If anyone tries to show good things they won’t make the money. If your not a crook you can’t get into politics.I could go on and on but I think I got my point across!

  13. My husband and I enjoyed the show, sure hope we see more..hope they will be back, we miss the show..Good luck to the Brown Family

  14. great program as my family enjoyed…much better than other stuff the Discovery is showing about Alaska…bring it back…if I comment on it you know there are thousands who like the show but will not post a comment..

  15. My kids and I love these people. My heart sunk when their boat sunk. My eight year old daughter loves Bear and Gabe. Snowbird is awesome keeping up with her brothers. Billy and Ami inspire me with how well they have done raising these kids. America needs more of this.
