NEW! Is Alaskan Bush People Fake? Does It Matter?

Viewers of Discovery Channel’s Alaskan Bush People have been wondering if the four episodes of the Brown family’s adventures in the wilderness are all they’re going to get. The new show Siberian Cut takes over the Tuesday night time slot and no new episodes of Alaskan Bush People are currently scheduled.

[Update: A new episode of Alaskan Bush People, titled “The Wild Life,” premieres Sunday, June 15, at 10pm ET/PT on Discovery Channel. Based on the show’s description, it sounds like it might be a highlights/recap/additional unaired footage type of show: “After facing unparalleled obstacles, the Browns reflect on their past year of living in the Alaskan Bush while providing surprise revelations about the family’s lifestyle.”

Last seen, the Brown family suffered another setback as the boat they were using to scout a new home in southeast Alaska hit an object, took on water and sank at the dock. The family made it off the boat safely, but were left with an uncertain future.

They can’t possibly let the show end like that, can they?

Well, the news here is that there is no news. According to a Discovery Channel spokesman, the network has not announced whether or not Alaskan Bush People will be returning.

As for the Brown family, all nine of them were in Los Angeles in January for the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour and were on a panel to promote the show, which at the time was scheduled to air on Animal Planet. (So no, they didn’t starve or freeze or anything after their boat went down in Episode 4.) You can learn more about them and see some pretty interesting photos of the family at their official website. Also, do read this article by Zaz Hollander of Alaska Dispatch, who did some investigating into some of the behind-the-scenes aspects of the show that have been debated in these recaps.

At the panel, Billy Brown summed up the origin of his family’s Alaskan adventure as well as how the TV show came into existence:

“I was born in Fort Worth, Texas, and my family died when I was 16, and I kind of hit the road. When Ami and I got together, we traveled all over the place, and we found that as we were going places, we never were really content where we were. We kept getting we’d go to the country, and it wasn’t really enough country. We kept getting deeper and deeper in, and then, when Alaska opened up to us, it was like a it was like a ready made home to us. And when we got up I have written children’s books for my kids and stuff and a book about my life, One Wave at a Time, and our guys went in when you go to the harbor shacks and stuff, we get Internet every once in a while, and our guys went in, Bam especially, and he put a website for the kids’ books. And through that, a guy got in touch with us, and we ended up here. And I am the one that didn’t want to come. …

This is, you know, not what we had planned. We spent 30 years of our lives trying to stay as far away from this kind of stuff as we could, and people. And we discussed it a lot, and I guess … it was Ami that really talked me into it more that we thought it would be cool if people could really see how we live because I don’t think you guys know people who really still live that way, because it’s not a movie. It’s us.”

  1. Please renew the Alaskan Bush People’s show. It was refreshing to see a family that was not so involved in material “things”. These people look like they genuinely love one another. The show gave a much appreciated look into a great family. They obviously respect one another. How refreshing, gives us hope that families are still one of the absolute best things to have!!!

  2. We really enjoyed the adventures of the Brown family- good and bad. I found the show to depict a family life style different from the norm but very
uplifting in the grit shown by each member to carry on for the good of all. If
I take anything from watching the show it would be a lesson in honesty and integrity shown by this family through some really awful trials. Let’s hope the Discovery Channel will show the same intergity when it comes to bringing the Brown family back to our homes each week.

  3. Why was their home burned down in the first place. That guy in Texas can graze his cattle for free instead of paying millions of dollars in fees but one family gets burnt out by our government? They must have been doing incredible harm to their homestead surroundings. An explanation to the public would be nice. Just to set the record straight , I mean. After all, our taxes paid for the matches.

  4. Real or not the Alaskan Bush People is a fun show to watch. I love the surroundings and it has a made me interested in visiting Alaska for the first time. If they’re real they are to be both admired and pitied. Admired for the way they try to live, and pitied for their bad luck. I know they make money for being on the show so they aren’t broke , but they certainly aren’t living the easy life. Please put the Browns’ shoe back on the air, and soon! Their followers want to see how they survive this latest setback. Best of luck to this inspirational family. Blessed be.

  5. Love the show. I am not happy it is not on anymore, except for reruns. Kinda left us in a fog with this Family loosing everything and sitting on a dock homeless

  6. If the show was named the Alaskan Obama People, this show would be on for a long 8 years and the family would be travelling around freeing dangerous terrorists, while building healthcare plans and websites that don’t work.

  7. I hope the browns come back on tv. I love watching them live the way they like. I was very sad when the ship sank. An they lost all. God bless them.

  8. Its a shame that we have such disrespectful americans in this country to run off a family thats just trying to be together and survive but what do you expect when this goverment of ours is doing the same thing and teaching people if you live differently your not accepted..its a learn behavior and the United state goverment dose the same thing… look at why they hadto move in the first place I loved that show lets hope it returns..

  9. Watched the bush people show for the first time tonight as we flipped through channels of reruns. It was really interesting and look forward to seeing more episodes.

  10. It is a shame to take the Brown’s off. It was nice to be able to see a family to work and pull together through hard times. No fussing and complaining. Just loving one another and doing what is necessary. God bless the Brown’s in their future endeavors.

  11. I am sad to see this series fall by the wayside. To be honest I would much rather watch the Alaskan bush people than to see Siberian cut ANYTIME.
The Browns showed all of us how to be happy without a lot of money or possessions. I hope that they will change their minds (discovery big wigs)
And decide to begin more filming so that we can all enjoy the Brons life in Alaska again.

    • Thanks, ColoradoMama! Nice find. Based on the description, “The Wild Life” looks like it might be a recap show: “After facing unparalleled obstacles, the Browns reflect on their past year of living in the Alaskan Bush while providing surprise revelations about the family’s lifestyle.”

  12. I’m really going to miss watching the Brown family and there struggles to survive in Alaska. It broke my heart to see them forced away from their cabin right after they got it up. I was really looking forward to seeing them Finnish it, and watch how they all got along in it. When the boat sank, I couldn’t believe it. How much bad luck could one family have? I wish them all good luck, and I hope there is a season five and more. Michael Tiano Livonia, Michigan.

  13. True or not, Alaskin Bush People was a good show. It was very humbling to see how hard it would be to survive in such unpredictable situations. I was taking so many things for granted everyday. Now I thank God everyday that I have what I have.
