NEW! Is Alaskan Bush People Fake? Does It Matter?

Viewers of Discovery Channel’s Alaskan Bush People have been wondering if the four episodes of the Brown family’s adventures in the wilderness are all they’re going to get. The new show Siberian Cut takes over the Tuesday night time slot and no new episodes of Alaskan Bush People are currently scheduled.

[Update: A new episode of Alaskan Bush People, titled “The Wild Life,” premieres Sunday, June 15, at 10pm ET/PT on Discovery Channel. Based on the show’s description, it sounds like it might be a highlights/recap/additional unaired footage type of show: “After facing unparalleled obstacles, the Browns reflect on their past year of living in the Alaskan Bush while providing surprise revelations about the family’s lifestyle.”

Last seen, the Brown family suffered another setback as the boat they were using to scout a new home in southeast Alaska hit an object, took on water and sank at the dock. The family made it off the boat safely, but were left with an uncertain future.

They can’t possibly let the show end like that, can they?

Well, the news here is that there is no news. According to a Discovery Channel spokesman, the network has not announced whether or not Alaskan Bush People will be returning.

As for the Brown family, all nine of them were in Los Angeles in January for the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour and were on a panel to promote the show, which at the time was scheduled to air on Animal Planet. (So no, they didn’t starve or freeze or anything after their boat went down in Episode 4.) You can learn more about them and see some pretty interesting photos of the family at their official website. Also, do read this article by Zaz Hollander of Alaska Dispatch, who did some investigating into some of the behind-the-scenes aspects of the show that have been debated in these recaps.

At the panel, Billy Brown summed up the origin of his family’s Alaskan adventure as well as how the TV show came into existence:

“I was born in Fort Worth, Texas, and my family died when I was 16, and I kind of hit the road. When Ami and I got together, we traveled all over the place, and we found that as we were going places, we never were really content where we were. We kept getting we’d go to the country, and it wasn’t really enough country. We kept getting deeper and deeper in, and then, when Alaska opened up to us, it was like a it was like a ready made home to us. And when we got up I have written children’s books for my kids and stuff and a book about my life, One Wave at a Time, and our guys went in when you go to the harbor shacks and stuff, we get Internet every once in a while, and our guys went in, Bam especially, and he put a website for the kids’ books. And through that, a guy got in touch with us, and we ended up here. And I am the one that didn’t want to come. …

This is, you know, not what we had planned. We spent 30 years of our lives trying to stay as far away from this kind of stuff as we could, and people. And we discussed it a lot, and I guess … it was Ami that really talked me into it more that we thought it would be cool if people could really see how we live because I don’t think you guys know people who really still live that way, because it’s not a movie. It’s us.”

  1. I am for the Brown families, my family love watching them in action, Bear is a little crazy in his running here n there n climbing trees, Wow LOL, it’s a treasure to watch each members do their own things (including the girls). We’d like it if Discovery Channel put the Brown family show back on, we missed them, great Christian families. Who would want to be spoiled liked the Kardashian’s we watched them once and their moral standards is pretty bad. No values in that family.

  2. I miss my families, I want them back on the TV, even those who says bad things against the Brown family but at least they are watching them. The families are wild and free and honest. I love every one of them as if we are related. I love to write to them. So Pleaseeeeeeeee put them back on the Discovery Show.

  3. Please give us an update on where the Bush family is living, etc., as of 7-16-2014
I hope this show continues as I enjoy their life & would love to live their life.

    • Fan of watching the result of inbreeding are we, folks? How is this not the foremost topic of discussion when it comes to this clan??? The teeth, the speech, the eyes. C’MON! Straight creepy.

      • Steve, you suck, don’t hate the show cause your one of the 98% of guys who are douch bags out here.i bet the Browns could whoop your ass when it come’s to surving the wilderness.i think your jelous of them.get a life and watch some thing else!there is plenty more for you to watch lol

        • Study up on grammar and punctuation before commenting you simpleton. If in fact this “family” is legit, they would gain much knowledge from spending time with me in the real bush.

          • Steve you still havn’t found anything else to watch?since your so interested in the Browns go to Alaska&see if they are real and maybe they can teach you some thing new, like getting lost.as for my grammer, i didn’t think i was getting graded on this, are you a stuffy old man or a younger man with a stick up your ass?either way your a douch& i’m sure the Brown boy’s are nothing like that.so do all of us a favor and STOP WATCHING DUMMY lol

  4. I like watching the show but needs to be on animal planet chn. The children are wonderful. So respectful to everyone.
I will say one thing for Billy they may not always have cash but they pay their bills by work by working for what they need or they trade off for fish or what ever they have. They are honest & their word is good.
They are not lazy its hard living like they do in the wild. I would like to see more shows. City people can’t live in the wild like that. They would not know how to survive.
When I was younger, I use to go camping but we took our food with us.
Also I drove a 18 wheeler for several yrs. You learn to adapt & do with what you have.

  5. I think they would make great husbands also. i have my eye on matt!! i think i would give up city life for him lol.and i bet he’s not a douch like 98% of the guys out here. they may live in the wild, but i think their parents did a great job w/them.i really hope the show comes back!! 🙂

  6. I really enjoy the show and would love to see it come back.why do the networks give you a taste of a good family show then pull it and promote garbage like the Kardashians? I’ll never understand. Anyway, Good luck to all of your family and I hope you’ll. Be back on the air

  7. I really love the show and it makes me feel like that’s the life for me . I want the freedom of doing what I love and that’s living in the woods . I also felt very down when there boat sank . It made me very down . Thanks for the show and I can’t wait to see if it comes on again .

  8. Alaskan Bush People is the first show in awhile that my family and friends made sure to be available to watch. We love this show. 4 episodes is just not enough. The show airs on Sunday evening for us and this past Sunday was a big let down when we discovered the show was not on. We want more the Browns are entertaining and enjoyable to watch.

  9. I truly enjoy this program. It is easy for me to relate to many aspects of this series. I was born on a very small farm in No. Dakota 82 years ago and can understand some of the situations the Brown Family has gone through. Aside from Ami and Billy, the seven children are a joy to watch!!!

I hope you will continue filming the series.

Most Sincerely, B. March, San Clemente, CA

  10. I really enjoyed the show. What wonderful children, young and older, the Brown’s have raised! Strong and supportive of each other. Very nice to see.

  11. Well, as we see from all the reports this is another phony scham, as usual from the people trying to make a fast buck. Wilderness family on a 5 acre plot in a residential neighbor hood two blocks from a Pizza parlor. I have that much wilderness in my back yard and its 4 miles from the closest pizza mill. But I can have it delivered, I am way out just like this family.

    Phooy phony.

  12. I am just a country woman and I really enjoyed the show. It shows that you can live without all the modern convienance. I don’t think you can find someone these days to even try more than live it. Freedom don’t owe somebody something it’s what God really wanted for us just freedom and happiness and unconditional love. There should be more people like the Brown’s. and being singal woman it would be so nice to be loved and wanted the way they do each other. God bless your family and please never change. You are hope!!!
