MTV offered a peek at what the nominees, presenters and performers (like P!nk, pictured above) will be receiving in the nifty little gift bags they’ll be getting at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, airing Sept. 6 at 8pm ET/PT. As a part of the celebrity gifting, MTV will donate to the non-profit organization Lifebeat, Music Fights HIV/AIDS, which is this year’s official charity recipient. With the Republican National Convention winding down, it’s the Democrats’ turn to gather, with the Democratic National Convention taking place in Charlotte Sept. 4-6. “Jersey Shore” to end after Season 6

MTV announced today that its highest-rated series ever, Jersey Shore, will be ending after its sixth season, which premieres Oct. 4 at 10pm ET/PT. Naturally, the network plans to milk every last ounce of the pop-culture phenomenon, so it will begin a farewell tour of sorts for the show starting Sept. 6, leading up to the Video Music Awards. Giuliana and Bill Rancic welcome a baby boy

E! News reported this morning that last night, at 10:12pm in Denver, Bill and Giuliana Rancic welcomed son Edward Duke Rancic into the world. Their little boy, born via gestational carrier, weighed 7 pounds and 4 ounces. Edward arrived just days in advance of his parents’ fifth wedding anniversary on Sept. 1. “Bill and I are blessed beyond words to welcome Edward into our lives,” Giuliana told E! MTV nets to premiere new Taylor Swift video

MTV, VH1, CMT and TeenNick will exclusively premiere Taylor Swift’s “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” music video to celebrate the one-week countdown to the 2012 Video Music Awards, MTV announced today. Swift had been previously announced as a performer at this year’s VMAs. Her video will premiere this Thursday, Aug. 30, at 7:49pm ET. “GMA” co-anchor Robin Roberts to begin medical leave Sept. 3

This morning on ABC’s Good Morning America, co-anchor Robin Roberts announced that this Friday, Aug. 31, will be her last day on air before she starts an extended medical leave. In June, five years after a fight with breast cancer, Roberts announced that she has been diagnosed with MDS (myelodysplastic syndrome), and that her sister, Sally-Ann, is an almost exactly perfect match for the bone marrow that will be used in a transplant. MSNBC’s Long Form unit will be premiering two new documentary specials chronicling the lives and political careers of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama, in advance of their respective parties’ national conventions.
