Killing Kennedy’s Rob Lowe on how “every president today talks like” JFK

Rob Lowe stars as John F. Kennedy in National Geographic Channel’s film Killing Kennedy (Nov. 10). But to hear his analysis, it isn’t only actors who find much to emulate in the beloved 35th president of the United States. “Every president today talks like him,” Lowe told reporters at a press conference this summer. “They all just are, like, excuse me, bad actors who found the greatest one who ever was and do their variation of that performance, every single one of them. And I don’t want to call any of them out by name, but I could if we were […]

Animal Planet series invites you to “Meet the Sloths”

Sloths — especially baby sloths — have been burning up the internet in recent years in terms of having their cuteness spread virally via pictures and videos. I have no way of measuring, of course, but they may even be close to rivaling cats in the number of adorable and funny pics populating the web, and in number of hits their images get. I know I’ve passed along my share of photos, trying to convince friends of the awesomeness of baby sloths, and last year, thanks to The Ellen DeGeneres Show, we found out that sloths even have the power […]

NBC Dateline special to interview skydivers and pilots from Wisconsin plane crash

In an incredible event last weekend, all nine skydivers, and both pilots, aboard two planes that collided in mid-air over Superior, Wisconsin, managed to survive the experience. This Friday, Nov. 8, NBC will air a special hourlong installment of Dateline featuring interviews with all nine skydivers and the two pilots. (NBC is receiving criticism from some outlets for agreeing to pay a six-figure fee to the skydivers for the exclusive interviews and airing of their amateur footage.) Dramatically titled “Miracle on the Sunset Dive,” this episode of Dateline takes a closer look at the Wisconsin plane crash that took place at about 12,000 feet. […]

ColorofChange.org statement on SNL Kerry Washington cold open

Saturday Night Live has long faced criticisms for its lack of racial diversity in general among its cast members, and recently it has drawn specific fire primarily for not including women of color (the show has now gone six years without a black female cast member, and there have only been four total in its 39-year history). Cast member Kenan Thompson stirred things up last month when he told TV Guide that a lack of quality black female comedians is to blame for their non-appearance on SNL. “It’s just a tough part of the business,” he told the magazine. “Like in auditions, they […]

It was a ratings smash — and a favorite among our readers, who named it Best TV Movie or Miniseries by a large margin in our annual Viewers Voice Awards — in its original run, and now History is re-airing The Bible series, beginning Monday, Nov. 11, in connection with History’s new series Bible Secrets Revealed. The Bible series, created and executive produced by the husband-and-wife team of Mark Burnett and Roma Downey (who also costars in the production as Mary), first aired in March 2013 and, according to History, garnered an average of 11.4 million total viewers per episode. Killing Kennedy movie interviews: Rob Lowe, Ginnifer Goodwin, Will Rothhaar

“I love history,” Rob Lowe tells me, “because you know somebody didn’t make it up. It actually happened.” Sometimes, those historical events that actually happen are tragic in nature, occasionally to the point of impacting an entire nation. Such was the case with the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on Nov. 22, 1963 — 50 years ago this month. As not only a student of history, but particularly as an admirer and voracious studier of Kennedy and the whole “Camelot” era, Lowe was drawn to his starring role as the iconic president in Killing Kennedy, premiering Nov. 10. The […]

JFK assassination 50th anniversary TV programming

50 years ago this month — on Nov. 22, 1963 — President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas by, it is presumed, Lee Harvey Oswald (himself later shot and killed by Jack Ruby). The JFK assassination caused political, social and emotional upheavals throughout the world, especially, of course, in America. But while the JFK assassination is an event embedded forever in American history, the 50-year distance may put its significance out of the reach of generations born well after the fact. Rob Lowe, who plays JFK in the film Killing Kennedy, told me in a recent interview, “I don’t think [younger […]
