HBO’s “Real Time With Bill Maher” returns amidst Tim Tebow controversy

Season 10 Tease For those who love controversy, it seems only fitting that Real Time With Bill Maher is returning the same weekend that Tim Tebow’s Denver Broncos are appearing in the playoffs. Maher has been on hiatus the last several weeks, but that didn’t stop the outspoken atheist from making the news. His unprovoked jabs on Twitter at the devoutly religious Tebow not only upset Christians and football fans, but it has led some to call for a boycott of his HBO show. Of course that just means more people will likely tune in tonight (10pm ET) to see if Maher […]

“CBS This Morning” hosts need to work on chemistry together and with guests

There are always going to be kinks that need to be worked out when a new show is launched, so it’s no real surprise that CBS This Morning is very much a work in progress. But if the show is ever going to succeed, the three hosts — Charlie Rose, Gayle King and Erica Hill — are going to have to develop a much better rapport with one another and their guests. Premiering today at 7am ET, the two-hour program replaced the ratings-challenged Early Show with the goal of somehow competing with NBC’s The Today Show and ABC’s Good Morning […]

VH1 breaks up the holidays with “40 Funniest Fails 2”

One reason reality television is so popular is because watching other people figuratively fall on their faces allows us to somehow feel better about ourselves, so imagine the enjoyment of watching someone literally falling on their face. Actually, you don’t have to imagine it, thanks to VH1. Tonight at 9pm ET, the network is rolling out the premiere of 40 Funniest Fails 2, a sequel to an hourlong clip-fest of people taking a spill for our viewing pleasure. Don’t get me wrong, I am never a fan of watching others get physically hurt, but I have to admit that there […]

Cowher, Namath and Edwards get golf tips on “The Haney Project”

One of the greatest things about the game of golf is that it can never be mastered. It can crumble the biggest of egos, and it can turn the world’s best athletes into mere mortals. This is why I am a huge fan of The Haney Project on the Golf Channel. Hank Haney is known to most golf enthusiasts as the former coach of Tiger Woods, but he has also instructed hundreds of pros from the PGA, LPGA, Champions, European, Japanese, Australian and Asian Tours.

McBride, Bieber, Gaga, Poinsettia Bowl and “The X-Factor” highlight great night of entertainment

It might seem a little sacrilegious during the holidays to refer to a piece of technology as a savior, but the DVR can certainly be your best friend with so many great specials, movies and sporting events airing this time of year. Our favorite dramas and sitcoms take a well-deserved break to make room for more seasonal fare, and tonight is a great example of the entertainment cup running over. So set that DVR to make sure you don’t miss out on any of the fun this evening.

Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl Preview: Marshall vs. FIU

Sometimes it’s very easy to dismiss a college football bowl game simply because of its name or when it’s played, but tonight’s Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl has the makings to be a very good contest. Being played at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, this matchup (8pm ET on ESPN) features the Thundering Herd of Marshall against the Golden Panthers of Florida International University. Many casual sports fans probably knew little about the West Virginia-based school until the 2006 movie We Are Marshall documented the tragic 1970 plane crash that killed most of the team and coaches.
