This is why I am a huge fan of The Haney Project on the Golf Channel. Hank Haney is known to most golf enthusiasts as the former coach of Tiger Woods, but he has also instructed hundreds of pros from the PGA, LPGA, Champions, European, Japanese, Australian and Asian Tours.

It might seem a little sacrilegious during the holidays to refer to a piece of technology as a savior, but the DVR can certainly be your best friend with so many great specials, movies and sporting events airing this time of year. Our favorite dramas and sitcoms take a well-deserved break to make room for more seasonal fare, and tonight is a great example of the entertainment cup running over. So set that DVR to make sure you don’t miss out on any of the fun this evening.

Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl Preview: Marshall vs. FIU

Sometimes it’s very easy to dismiss a college football bowl game simply because of its name or when it’s played, but tonight’s Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl has the makings to be a very good contest. Being played at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, this matchup (8pm ET on ESPN) features the Thundering Herd of Marshall against the Golden Panthers of Florida International University. Many casual sports fans probably knew little about the West Virginia-based school until the 2006 movie We Are Marshall documented the tragic 1970 plane crash that killed most of the team and coaches.

The NBA lockout ended just in time to save the showcase Christmas Day games, and the NBA season tips off Dec. 25 with five games: Boston at New York at 12pm ET on TNT, Miami at Dallas at 2:30pm ET on ABC, Chicago at L.A. College football’s top individual award, the Heisman Trophy, is presented to the most outstanding player of the year in a ceremony from the Best Buy Theater in New York City’s Times Square on Saturday, Dec. 10, at 8pm ET on ESPN. Finalists who received invites to New York are Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck, Alabama running back Trent Richardson, Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III, LSU defensive back/punt returner Tyrann Mathieu and Wisconsin running back Montee Ball.
