Theresa Caputo, the star of TLC’s series Long Island Medium, says she was 28 when she was first introduced to the possibility that she was a medium. It took another five years for her to actually accept her gift.
“There’s a big difference from when I accepted it to who am I?” Caputo told us. She said she struggled with feeling, “I’m no different than anybody else. Why was I chosen to do this? Why is this my journey?”
The aftermath of 9/11 left her with clarity and a feeling of purpose for what she calls her role in the physical world. Now Caputo spends her days and nights taking her clients on an emotional and spiritual journey with the afterlife. She helps people find closure and/or reconnect some with loved ones who have passed.

Her wait time is over two years at this point, due to the popularity of the show.
Surprisingly, Caputo has built her career on word of mouth only and has done little to no marketing. When asked if she’s ready for what a TV series will bring as far as popularity, Caputo says: “Absolutely not. I still think this is like a school project. It’s so not reality yet for me. My life is overwhelming as it is, as of right now, my waiting list to get an appointment is… I don’t have any availability until January 2013.”

My dad died when i was 13. He left behind my mother, my two younger sisters who were 7 and 11, and me. I watch your show everytime it comes on. I would love to see if he would come through. Hi Theresa, I lived in East Meadow all my life till8 years ago, my sister is still there. Our parents died when we were young, strange things happen to us and wonder if they are trying to reach us for some reason. As we get older it would be a comfort to know that they are still waiting all this time. I need some sorting out of sensitivities I’ve been feeling for a long time since I was very small. Am now just realizing through watching you show that I may have some gifts. I would very much like to explore them and understand them. I don’t believe my gifts are exactly like yours though but similar feelings. I’m concerned that if I begin to explore my sensitivities that I very well could allow bad spirit to enter my body and I know I must be very careful. I’ve got to tell you that I find myself compelled to watch your show in spite that I was brought up in a very religious conservative way. I must say that all I’ve seen is positive things that you do for people. And I was so touched by the show when you got emotional with one of your clients and had to stop to recompose yourself. I see you as truly genuine and kindhearted in the way you serve people. It is so apparent that you give it your all during a “session”. Meeting you is at the very top of my wish list, tho’ I don’t see how that might ever come to be. I have loved ones who’ve passed that I’d like to find out about. Recently I have been thinking about my sister quite a bit, I lost her one year ago on March 3rd, I lost my mother 7 years ago on March 29th, My mom’s birthday was March 2nd, so March has become a pretty depressing month for me. Anyway somehow I know my mom is o.k. and free from pain and the physical restrictions she had, and I know in my heart that my sister is also, but I just keep getting this nagging feeling that she did not go comfortably or something I am not sure exactly what is bothering me, I just want to know that she is alright. Maybe I just feel guilty for not visiting her more, I don’t know. I actually saw your shown for the first time at the beginning of your 2nd season, and what really clicked with me is that my sisters and I grew up on Long Island, and when you mentioned your hair and nails I had to laugh. No matter how sick my sister was unless she was in intensive care she would not let anyone come see her until her hair, make-up and nails were done everyday at home or in the hospital. So I know if anyone can help me you can even if I have to wait two years and come to Long Island to meet you. We all moved to Pennsylvania, first my parents then each of us girls followed one by one. You have a wonderful gift and put many people at ease over the fate of their loved ones.

I am a big believer in what you do and I think it is a gift and is so healing for people who have lost loved ones. My husband lost his father in 2005 and was left with lots of questions. They had just fixed their rocky relationship and were just getting closer. My husband holds his emotions in and is still grieving the loss of his father. I don’t know if you can do phone readings but I would love for you to speak with my husband.
