Theresa Caputo, the star of TLC’s series Long Island Medium, says she was 28 when she was first introduced to the possibility that she was a medium. It took another five years for her to actually accept her gift.
“There’s a big difference from when I accepted it to who am I?” Caputo told us. She said she struggled with feeling, “I’m no different than anybody else. Why was I chosen to do this? Why is this my journey?”
The aftermath of 9/11 left her with clarity and a feeling of purpose for what she calls her role in the physical world. Now Caputo spends her days and nights taking her clients on an emotional and spiritual journey with the afterlife. She helps people find closure and/or reconnect some with loved ones who have passed.

Surprisingly, Caputo has built her career on word of mouth only and has done little to no marketing. When asked if she’s ready for what a TV series will bring as far as popularity, Caputo says: “Absolutely not. I still think this is like a school project. It’s so not reality yet for me. My life is overwhelming as it is, as of right now, my waiting list to get an appointment is… I don’t have any availability until January 2013.”

My name is Andrea Lanier and I am 13 yrs old. My grandmother passed before i was born and i never meet her. My mom always says she would haved been so proud of me. I love to imagine her thinking of how she would have looked and talked. Today my mom seemed preety upset and she has always said she wanted to meet you. I think she just wants to know if her mom is still thinking about her and me. I am looking to get closure for my family, specifically my father and grandmother.
One of my uncles was kidnapped by the drug cartels in Mexico in 2008. No one has heard from him since and we have no idea whether he is dead or alive. It hurts me to see my family’s pain, especially around the holidays and I would like to know if he has passed on.
Also, another uncle of mine was shot and killed in 2001. Court decided his death was related to self-defense and the 17 yr old (at the time) who pulled the trigger was set free. I want to know how my uncle is doing and how he feels about this.
I’ve also thought a lot about my brother (Passed away before I was born, premature stillborn). What he would’ve been like and how different our lives would’ve been if he were around today.

I think that the gift you have is God sent. I love watching your show. I am so happy for the people that you help. Sometimes we wonder how are mom or dad is that passed away. I lost alot of family members and think of them often. I moved from Manhattan to VA not long after the 911 attack. I was 2 city blocks away and ran over to help out while others were running from it. But that’s just me, I always run to help someone in need. I would love to meet you someday if at all possible. I would love to know if it would be possible to have a reading by phone since I have a horse farm and other pets where I live in VA. I also do rescue work. My name is Lori, and I have been searching on Ancestry.com for 2yrs for information on the Funaro Family. My Great Grandfather Nicola 1886-1916 was killed when my Grandfather was not quite 1year of age. A coincidence is that there is a Caputo in my family tree from what I can tell. When my Great Grandmother remarried out of respect,I guess she did not talk of the Funaro Family. I know this is reaching, but it’s become an obsession,like I can’t let it go. I’m a dreamer so it seems like I have had this in my brain for as long as I can remember. He died in the Youngstown area, I know I’m reaching but I thought it may be worth a shot. I can’t afford a reading, and I live in Kentucky, near Cincinnati. Thought maybe you may get a feeling, there was always a mystery within the family about how he died. I really have this irrational need to know of him and any brothers or sisters, family that my be still living.

My mother left my 2 brothers and I when I was 3.i was told that my mother left because of me all my childhood….I grew up thinking she hated me and missed out on all the mother and daughter bonding and being the only girl out of 4 brothers…it was hard.When I was in my 30s I decided to look for my mother and it took me awhile but I finally found her…..i was home alone one day when the PI came to my house and said he found her but she past away in ’89…she was 44…i cried and felt so alone and I would never know if she loved me!! i pray someone would give me an answer…Thank you-

I really need theresa’s help for my nine year old daughter.. She has some really tramatic things happen to her in her life and I would like to know if things will come out and she will be able to get rid of the anger that she carries with her.. On top of everything thing she started talking about seeing people there when no one else could see them then as she got older and could communicate better she said she could speak to people that are dead and tell me stuff that no child her age would know.. I have been told she has the gift and that she gets it from me .I would like to know how I can get back into communicating with the so maybe they could come to both of us and we could help..I have been supportive of my daughter as I believe soley that we can communicate with people who have passed. Its just my daughter is nine and has to live with whats happened to her and her gift and I really want to lighten her load.
