Theresa Caputo, the star of TLC’s series Long Island Medium, says she was 28 when she was first introduced to the possibility that she was a medium. It took another five years for her to actually accept her gift.
“There’s a big difference from when I accepted it to who am I?” Caputo told us. She said she struggled with feeling, “I’m no different than anybody else. Why was I chosen to do this? Why is this my journey?”
The aftermath of 9/11 left her with clarity and a feeling of purpose for what she calls her role in the physical world. Now Caputo spends her days and nights taking her clients on an emotional and spiritual journey with the afterlife. She helps people find closure and/or reconnect some with loved ones who have passed.

Her wait time is over two years at this point, due to the popularity of the show.
Surprisingly, Caputo has built her career on word of mouth only and has done little to no marketing. When asked if she’s ready for what a TV series will bring as far as popularity, Caputo says: “Absolutely not. I still think this is like a school project. It’s so not reality yet for me. My life is overwhelming as it is, as of right now, my waiting list to get an appointment is… I don’t have any availability until January 2013.”

Hello There!- !st I want to say that I love your show! You have an amazing gift as you know!- I am going to make an appointment with you – I live in California and 2-3 years should be enough time to plan a trip out there- I do have a question now for my ex fiance but he is still my best friend and I love him dearly! His Name is Mark, and is a good man, he lost his father in his early 20’s- his father got sick when Mark was 11 and watched him suffer for year. Mark never did get over his fathers death. I have had his dad come to me in dreams to give a message, but my message’s arnt as clear, and I dont knwo if it’s just my imagination! If there is some message from him to Mark! anything to make him feel better, to help him heal, or process it! If theres anything that could validate him..Marks a bit of a skeptic but i know deep down he believes! He would be a changed man if he can get a message. I lost my best friend 9 yrs ago in a horrible car crash. Something you said in one of the episodes made complete sense to me. You said to someone that they already knew that the person that had past in their life was still around them and watching over them. I totally feel my friend is around me quite often. She appears as butterflies because that is what she always loved (and even had a tattoo of on her shoulder).
The only thing I wonder about is if her passing was fast or if she had suffered at all. I would like to think that it was instant but I may never know.

I’m going to call you today because I need your help. I read your list is 2 years now. I cannot wait that long. I also live near Boston, Ma. Driving to you isn’t an option.
Simply put, I have 3 question I need your help with. If you’re reading this then I know your “reading me”. #1, while you read me you know my family is extremely odd, twisted. My own mother is still alive, she didn’t raise me. There are those who should not of ever been mothers. Mine is 1 of those. She had 4 children and treated us all bad. But she has a special hatred for me. You do understand that and why. Which is some thing I need to know.
#2, my twisted family. Is there anyone who loves me. Is there anyone who’s passed away but stays with me.
#3, I also have a gift. I can read people but cannot read myself. Recently I found a 17yr old boy while txting with my sister. He went out on a Friday night and it was just after noon Saturday when they began searching and I found him. Weird things do happen. If I think bout a movie I haven’t seen in a long while it will be on the tv within a few weeks. My husband who does not believe in this stuff can read my mind word for word. I’ll think something and he’ll say it. Identicle to the words I use in my head. Some times I speak before him and the same thing happens. I heard that you did things but it took time for you to see spirits. I’d like to know how you did it.

Have doubt but here goes the question. I am been sick for about 2 years many doctors later there is still no answer and am lost as to where to go. My dad past away in a terrible accident many years ago does he have the answer to my lifes questions?
I know this will probably never get read and I have always been reluctant to send anything like this, but I figured, what is there to lose. I have a 16 (almost 17) year old son and then an 11 year old son. Their mom committed suicide by jumping off a bridge on 9/28/06, 5 years ago. It has been a major struggle for all of us. Of course, in different capacities. I do not want your help for me, but for my two boys. She was my wife at the time for 12 years when she decided to end her life, my oldest son has struggled because he did not have such a good relationship with his mom due to her drug use. She was clean for about 3 years which was when my youngest was born. Of course I have never used drugs before, so I really did not know the after effects of it. It is too hard to explain all of this over writing, but I would do anything for you to help my two boys understand this a little better. Lots of anger and hurt among the 3 of us, but mostly them. My 16 year old thinks his mom hated him and my 11 year old pretty much doesn’t really know what to think at this point in his life.
