NEW! Is Alaskan Bush People Fake? Does It Matter?
Viewers of Discovery Channel’s Alaskan Bush People have been wondering if the four episodes of the Brown family’s adventures in the wilderness are all they’re going to get. The new show Siberian Cut takes over the Tuesday night time slot and no new episodes of Alaskan Bush People are currently scheduled.
[Update: A new episode of Alaskan Bush People, titled “The Wild Life,” premieres Sunday, June 15, at 10pm ET/PT on Discovery Channel. Based on the show’s description, it sounds like it might be a highlights/recap/additional unaired footage type of show: “After facing unparalleled obstacles, the Browns reflect on their past year of living in the Alaskan Bush while providing surprise revelations about the family’s lifestyle.”
Last seen, the Brown family suffered another setback as the boat they were using to scout a new home in southeast Alaska hit an object, took on water and sank at the dock. The family made it off the boat safely, but were left with an uncertain future.
They can’t possibly let the show end like that, can they?
Well, the news here is that there is no news. According to a Discovery Channel spokesman, the network has not announced whether or not Alaskan Bush People will be returning.
As for the Brown family, all nine of them were in Los Angeles in January for the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour and were on a panel to promote the show, which at the time was scheduled to air on Animal Planet. (So no, they didn’t starve or freeze or anything after their boat went down in Episode 4.) You can learn more about them and see some pretty interesting photos of the family at their official website. Also, do read this article by Zaz Hollander of Alaska Dispatch, who did some investigating into some of the behind-the-scenes aspects of the show that have been debated in these recaps.
At the panel, Billy Brown summed up the origin of his family’s Alaskan adventure as well as how the TV show came into existence:
“I was born in Fort Worth, Texas, and my family died when I was 16, and I kind of hit the road. When Ami and I got together, we traveled all over the place, and we found that as we were going places, we never were really content where we were. We kept getting we’d go to the country, and it wasn’t really enough country. We kept getting deeper and deeper in, and then, when Alaska opened up to us, it was like a it was like a ready made home to us. And when we got up I have written children’s books for my kids and stuff and a book about my life, One Wave at a Time, and our guys went in when you go to the harbor shacks and stuff, we get Internet every once in a while, and our guys went in, Bam especially, and he put a website for the kids’ books. And through that, a guy got in touch with us, and we ended up here. And I am the one that didn’t want to come. …
This is, you know, not what we had planned. We spent 30 years of our lives trying to stay as far away from this kind of stuff as we could, and people. And we discussed it a lot, and I guess … it was Ami that really talked me into it more that we thought it would be cool if people could really see how we live because I don’t think you guys know people who really still live that way, because it’s not a movie. It’s us.”

I’ve had nothing better to do this afternoon but read through these blogs after watching a short re-run of the first episode. The show is a little entertaining, funny, and downright comical at times. And yes I know it is all contrived. But all reality shows are. And people like us continue to watch them . But the best thing about their contrived way of living for television, is my opportunity to turn to another channel. Which I will do shortly when the Super Bowl comes on and we get to watch deflate gate.
I just read about the fraud and felony theft the Alaskan Bush People have been charged with. Including the parents 4 or 5 sons are also charged. Unbeleivable! Incredible! WOW! What kind of parents are THEY? They have a 12 year old daughter they are raising to be a thief? Sons already are.
Billy is the leader, the head of the family. He tells all the others what to do. It’s safe to assume that he, his wife and sons are now in trouble because of him.
He and his wife should get the Parents of the Year award! NOT!!!!!
Fraud and felony charges, squatting on government land, I keep saying that billy brown is a loser. It amazes me that they want to be called bush people but they have a tv crew following them around. He (billy brown) wants to do the least amount of work and have everything handed to like having the neighbors supply lumber and labor while he hides inside that grass shack then comes out when the house is finished. Having his boys beg for material to build there last cardboard box home, like I said he like pointing his finger and barking out orders and being the (boss) or the ( big shot) of his little group. I hope he reads this cuz your a worthless piece of shit, the kind of neighbor you wouldn’t want living next door to you because he would always want favors or wait send his Elvis sideburns kid over to beg off of you fucken looser!!!!!
I agree with you that billy aint worth his salt but could we please watch the language?
Thanks
Angela
Let me think about that for a second ( my language) uh no that is the problem with this country now adays were are so worried about offending people like blacks, fags, Mexicans to be honest I just don’t care sorry
Begging? And if you don’t give it to them they come back under cover of darkness and steal it! That’s when you load their a** up with buck shot!
I’ve watched two or three shows. It doesn’t capture my interest.
The girls are just darling and pretty. The oldest is a bit too old to be playing with dolls. She should have friends her age and a boyfriend not dolls.
I don’t understand why 30 year old men are still living with the parents. My son’s were on their own at 21 and 23. My husband and I agreed that until they graduated college they could live at home but there comes a time when they need to take on all the responsibilities of being an adult and as parents it was our job to prepare them for adulthood.
I hear that thongs are different in Ak. I can’t see why it would matter where one lived. Life is life. Some things in life change but the things that are really important part of the journey of life never change.
I wish the family the best but we won’t be watching the show again.
Every time some type of Manuel labor needs to be done that idiot billy brown has got some type of illness or a stubbed toe something that will enable him to do any work, so he can act like the ( boss) or the ( big shot) of the other idiots. Some other post mentioned that he claims that he worked on a fishing boat for ( years) but the first time he drove that piece of shit boat that he bought for his family to live on how nice of him he ran into a rock and sunk the boat what a looser!
He does always seem to have an excuse for not working. One blogger down below said “you do what comes natural.” What comes natural is what you have always done. That makes sense. Seems that Billy Brown did very little work and lots of supervising and maybe things he would want to hide?! (Will be interesting to see what the judge says on this upcoming court case and what the outcome will be.)
We do not believe that they are for real.
If they were to be real do you think any smart woman would want them?
1.Don’t you think it would be hard for a woman to adjust to an insecure life? I mean all the mistakes they make when their survival depends on it. Living in the wilderness a woman needs a man that knows how to survive and is able to provide and protect (this includes being able to hit the targe if necessary) the children and her.
2. That includes a house unless you call a small doorless hut with 8 other people for company a home. Talk about voyeruristic!
3. Lots of bears in that area….more than any other. I would be afraid for any children especially twins…toddlers. Would be like putting their life in danger because you can not watch children every minute.
4. Some of them I hear have court dates for fraud and such. That could mean a prison term…no kind of marrage.
5. Who wants to take a shower in the freezing cold? …or mud. That shower water will either cause a big mud puddle prone to increasing in size with each shower or a big ice patch unless they put a floor of some kind in (i doubt they bathe in the winter). Imagine snuggling with body odor. I wonder if they know that outhouse will need to be moved soon when it’s full because I think the hole they showed was not adequate and it looks to be too close to camp.
6. Not to mention fod. (Clean dishes are always a must and I would not eat from those dishes.) Do they actually know how to shoot as in hit the target in this case a deer? He bumfuzzled that! Or to get the crabs out of the ocean? (That was bumfuzzled too!) Heck they could not even find their way home. Had to call out search and rescue. They should be billed because they have no business being out there if they don’t know what they are doing. What would they have done if Discovery crew had not been there to make the call for help.
We don’t think the family knows what they are doing. I hope it does not get anyone hurt…..said they are far from medical help. When the bear was in the area and they could not find the girls I cringed. Many years ago i saw someone who was ignorant to danger and did someting stupid. I cried when i saw what he was doing knowing what the outcome would be and knowing I saw it too late to warn him. He was attacked, killed and partially eaten by two lioness. My point is that wild animals are experts at hunting prey. They hunt in ways that the typical person would not think of even 12 and 20 year old girls. I would not have my 12 year old child living in any area where the bear population is high. (And the child is a child which means oblivious to danger.)
How can they make so many mistakes specially when you life depends heavily on gettin it right? They look like they should of taken one of them there survival courses.
I was wondering why them boys are not married and the oldest gurl is not dating. It seems to me their mom and daddy would want them to find wives and have their own family.
Don’t reckon it’s a bad show but I got nuttin outta it.
Because if they were dating or married who would do all the work or who would that lazy brown boss around? His wife he is a worthless piece of shit building a shack on government land and not pay taxes like all real homeowners do I am glad somebody torched it serves him right
If you don’t like them then turn off you television set. I really enjoy watching them. I hope they keep them on far a long time.
What kind of man would drag his wife and daughter around Alaska the show is the worst he is trying to get the show to build a Hut for him I live in the mountains also but I live in a think called a house and a toliet for my wife you are a looser brown how about getting a job and let your wife and daughter decide on where they want to live instead of your little fanisity and forget it about your boys there idioits nice next show an obstacle course wow now that is real tv your show sucks bad
Dave
Interesting how people who actually live in Ak are not fooled by this crappy show and don’t like fakers.
So you would take away the right to freedom of speech? You must know this would also limit what you can say too.
It would also mean that you must turn off your tv because you do not like everything on tv either.
Their show beats the Kardashians, etc.
100%
Guess you will be taking your own advice and cutting your tv set off?!
I just saw that Alaskan Bush People has a new episode on tonight. It’s still on….REALLY? Is Discovery that hard up?
I recall in one of the first four episodes last year that Billy spent (was it?) 30 years as captain of a boat. If that is the case why is it said that the children grew up in the bush? Does the bush extend into the ocean? If not on the boat where did the kids actually grow up if dad was on the water?
I don’t think their story would hold up in a court of law. They sure could NOT be found guilty of telling the TRUTH!
I & my friend would like to know if they are for real? I can’t understand why the father is so lazy?how can you send your kids out to work and keep there money, while you sit around and sleep and eat.he is always giving orders and not helping! I see not his intention, and plan was to have so many kids for.if they were smart they would leave. I would love to see all the guys clean shaved!
The mom contributes even less than pop to the family. She says nothing and looks to her husband to make the decisions. She reminds me of a mouse.
He’s lazy because he can be. They allow it!
Betty,
Of course they’re NOT REAL. Just read our 1-30, 1-29, 1-24, 1-19, & 1-18 blogs.
Betty
I am around Billy’s and I’ve worked hard mist of my life. When you have worked hard you life you continue as you have always done. You do what comes natural to you.
I meant to say I am around Billy’s age.
Well let’s seri lived in southeast Alaska in ketchikan from 1983 till 1997.
And I here to tell you the bush people are FAKE!!! Anyone who has lived
In Alaska and fished and hunted there can tell you that these fakers!! Are
1. Scared of their own shadow as well as everything out in the bush .And
The stupid mistakes they make are just to much to believe like sinking their crab pot to deep , really come on now how many times have these bush people been crabbing and yet they make a mistake like that . And if you watch how they carry their weapons so carelessly and pointing the barrels toward the dirt . And the chain saws come on do you know how much gas it takes to run a chain saw enough to build a cabin . And how are they able to get all their goods with just bartering when I lived in ketchikan I know that gas was $3.85 a gallon and mixed gas was $4.50 a gallon . Ammo was expensive also , and the boat sinking at the dock well I was in the coast guard while there and I can tell you he would have been fined and been responsible for the clean up of the sunk boat at the dock not to mention the registration fees and safety items he would need to have onboard before he could take the boats out .
As well as hunting and fishing liecense and cost of the equipment he is using , chain saws , guns , axes , hand saws, shovels, ect. Ect. And like do you realize how much Room it takes to store and Carry all this gear . As well as the big Hugh tent and tarps they have . And oh several places that they were at i reconized and like the Christmas tree area was out near ward lake area just north of town alittle in Ketchikan . My kids went to ketchikan schools and loved to fish and hint with me . After I got out of the service I and my famy stayed another 8 years there . All I can say is the brown family is as Fake as it gets and green as it gets no way they are experienced alaskan bush smart people . They are an insult to true Alaskans . Fake is Fake and that’s just how it is .
Oh thank you thank you! I so totally agree. Everything about their lives there is a lie. I guess that is a Reality TV show for you because Reality TV shows are FAKE. A clean shaven family with brand new guns going out in bad weather dressed in biker jacket to kill a deer… It twas so ridiculous. The parts they supposedly picked up from the junk yard to fix something looked sparkly new (copper), the tools looked new, and so did the generator.
I can imagine your life there and can relate to YOUR family life at the time you lived there. Thank you for writing that! I watched the show once and caught on to the lie, and apparently so did a lot of other people and it is off the air.
Dang I knew these guys were phony but I just had to watch for lack of nothing else on. Now I really got my bubble burst when I found out the alaska the last frontier family is really Jewel the singer’s relatives oh pooh reality shows I’m done
The Browns are not related to Jewell the singer. Jewell’s grandfather is Yule Kilcher whos decendants are featured on Alaska the Last Frontier, Not Alaska Bush People, who nobody believes.
I briefly saw part of what appeared to be a black bear with one of the boys wanting to shoot in the air to scare it off and old billy told his son not to because the bear would get use to hearing the gun and the sound would loose it’s effectiveness in scaring them off. I don’t and never have lived in the Alaskan bush but with my experiences in other parts of the world I know that. My point though is if they have been living in the so called bush all these years why did son not know that already? Seems to me it would be common bush living knowledge.
They are not real! Please check out the FACTS presented here 1-19, 1-18, etc. They are a contrivance, manufactured, phony, fake, etc. By any state’s standards they’ve committed serious firearms violations and wildlife violations. Their tax problems and fraud problems are the least of their problems. Do you think Discovery pulled them voluntarily? Do you want the firearms and game management laws to be enforced or not? How would you like it if people squatted on your deeded land upon which you’ve paid taxes for generations? You just can’t go anywhere and claim it’s yours simply because it’s not currently being used. How would you like it if they did that to your woods?
Why are you telling me this? I know they are not what they are portrayed to be. I know they have been charged with breaking the law as well as other things about them. Didn’t you read the things I posted prior? I don’t like the show or the message it is sending and I quit watching it. Fortunately I am not tortured with that stupid grade school level show but I am with those elementary school level previews! I wish the show would be axed so I wouldn’t see them on my tv anymore!
Well, we agree. Just thought others would like the truth. The scary thing is that most people do not seem to be able to tell the difference. Well, we’re still blogging.
I read somewhere that there are many people who believe whatever they see on tv no matter what it is. I’ve read of actors being attacked because someone didn’t like their character in a sitcom or movie and the person believed that person was actually the character they portrayed.
That combined with wishing for what they think the Browns have….a close supportive loving family and off grid living is appealing and perhaps they are living it in their minds as it unfolds on tv that it becomes a personal attack on them when you say anything negative about the Brown family.
Of course this doesn’t apply to everyone but this is what I get from reading the majority of the blogs which I am pretty sure the content will change somewhat now.
Kinda scary!
What bothers me the most is that some people are not bothered by any of the browns character. They are in trouble with the law and that says a lot as to what kind of people they are. Even in the first couple of episodes we got an idea of what kind of people they are. The government had every right to burn their house down which they built on government land. Yet they want to appear to be the victims! I wouldn’t be surprised as to what they are guilty of.
I am sure too that there are a number that are being educated from these blogs.
I just hope that the silly show is axed. I’m sick of the previews popping up on my screen. (And I’m NOT turning my TV off!)
I think it’s really sad that so many people seem to be drawn to the Brown family Alaskan Bush People because the family sticks together. This is said in many posts and holds a high level of importance in each one. Is there such a deficit of supportive close loving families? Are people trying to live vicariously through them because their own family is crappy and that is why people are so upset to read anything negative about them?
This family is nobody special. They have been and are in trouble with the law. Their value system is not grounded in honesty and law abiding. (Possibly another news flash: there are laws that are set up to protect us.) There is no excuse for that! Unless something is wrong with the brain we all know right from wrong. ….no matter how or where you live. If they will steal from the government and other people they will steal from me and you!
I love Alaskan Bush People, very entertaining, and sometimes I wish I could live like that, and not the everyday hum-drum life with stresses, non-satisfying work, just to pay the bills, ect.
this show is so refreshing, and love to see a family that sticks together and help one another. they share a love that most other families do not even know about. They do not abuse any drugs, alcohol, and they live a clean life off the grid. More power to them…. love the show.
and Josh, (Bam) you are my very favorite, I would love to meet you..OMG. love your personality, and your mannerisms, besides being very cute, handsome man………
take care, keep the shows coming, look forward to it……
How do you know they don’t abuse drugs and that they live off the grid?
A lot of these posts seem to think the Brown family are great and wonderful because they stick together. Do you guys have crappy families that are not close and supportive? Well here’s a news flash you don’t have to be a brown family member to have what many families have….close knit….loving and supportive family members….and unlike the Browns law abiding!
Retarded family and kids. Bad teeth, mullets and speach impediments. Call childrens services please!
Unfortunately the protection the state is suppose to provide for children it’s too late for all but the youngest of these.
All those Brown children should have had home teaching of values, have had a stable home life with medical including dental care and SPEECH THERAPY among everything else they didn’t apparently get.
They have for some reason emotionally not matured to their chronological ages.
Billy once said in the earlier episodes (I don’t watch them any more) that they would go off far enough to have sex but keep an ear on the children. It didn’t sound to me as if those children would have been safe during that time had danger approached.
The entire family situation is messed up. It’s not one I would want to be part of.
Call children services because they have bad teeth, mullets, and speech issues? Calling them retarded? You are very judgmental and mean spirited. SO, anyone different than you should be reported? It is called freedom..they can live as they choose and don’t need people like you interfering….
They can live as they choose? Really? Does that include squatting, fraud, theft, and wildlife and firearms violations? Check out our 1-28, 1-19, & 1-18 blogs which set the record straight. “Freedom” does not mean you can go out and claim another’s deeded property on which taxes are being paid simply because it’s there! Just because someone is not using their land does not mean you have the right to steal it! That’s not freedom, that’s communism. Furthermore, if you kill everything that moves around you there would be little game for real hunters and real bush people who actually live full time in Alaska. Let’s get it straight, the Brown’s are criminals, bullies, & FAKES.
My family loves the show an all other shows about Alaska. Keep the shows coming.
LOVE THIS SHOW. LOOK FORWARD TI IT BECAUSE IT IS A VERY DIFFERENT LIFESTYLE. WHY DO WE ALL HAVE TO BE THE SAME. HOW BORING. THOSE KIDS CAN LEAVE ANYTIME AND IF THEY DON’T SO WHAT, THAT IS THEIR CHOOSING. EVERYONE HAS BECOME A DICTATOR. DO AS I SAY, BULL.
Get real lady. Change the world for just you.
Well alaskan bush people sure ain’t real!!!! And yes I’m sure would like to see that stupid show taken off. I don’t watch it but I can’t get away from those silly elementary level previews. For once I’d like to see an alaskan bush people preview that is not written on an elementary level of education (Most everything on tv and theaters are written on a 7th or 8th grade level) then I might watch it. Until then it’s way beneath my educational level and an insult to my IQ.
Everyone has seen a show or sitcom that they would like to see gone and it’s hypocritical to come across as if you never have.
Who cares if the show is somewhat scripted. It’s entertainment. Sometimes at the end of a hard working long exhausting week-it’s a great show to watch to be entertained. I guarantee none of the family members would have the heart to be as rude as some of these comments are. Lighten up.
The Browns steal, lie and cheat…..that’s worse than what some may call rudeness!
OH SO THEY HAVE TO CHANGE BECAUSE YOU SAY SO, . WHAT MAKES YOU THE EXPERT. I LIKE TO GET AWAY ONCE IN AWHILE AND SEE HOW OTHER PEOPLE MAY LIVE. THIS SHOW IS ENTERTAINING. I CAN GET AWAY AND THINK OF SOMETHING OTHER THAN RIGID WORK, CONCRETE, SILLY RULE AND OTHER PEOPLES DUMB REASONING. TURN TO ANOTHER CHANNEL AND LET ME ENJOY THIS ONE LITTLE SHOW THAT KINDA MAKES MY DAY.
I wish they would take this silly show off. I watched it a few times and it’s stupid. Yet I can’t get away from the stupid previews! I am sick of alaskan non bush people! Please….please take the stupid show off!
Matt is the cutest but he talks like he’s way younger than 30 something.
