NEW! Is Alaskan Bush People Fake? Does It Matter?

Viewers of Discovery Channel’s Alaskan Bush People have been wondering if the four episodes of the Brown family’s adventures in the wilderness are all they’re going to get. The new show Siberian Cut takes over the Tuesday night time slot and no new episodes of Alaskan Bush People are currently scheduled.

[Update: A new episode of Alaskan Bush People, titled “The Wild Life,” premieres Sunday, June 15, at 10pm ET/PT on Discovery Channel. Based on the show’s description, it sounds like it might be a highlights/recap/additional unaired footage type of show: “After facing unparalleled obstacles, the Browns reflect on their past year of living in the Alaskan Bush while providing surprise revelations about the family’s lifestyle.”

Last seen, the Brown family suffered another setback as the boat they were using to scout a new home in southeast Alaska hit an object, took on water and sank at the dock. The family made it off the boat safely, but were left with an uncertain future.

They can’t possibly let the show end like that, can they?

Well, the news here is that there is no news. According to a Discovery Channel spokesman, the network has not announced whether or not Alaskan Bush People will be returning.

As for the Brown family, all nine of them were in Los Angeles in January for the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour and were on a panel to promote the show, which at the time was scheduled to air on Animal Planet. (So no, they didn’t starve or freeze or anything after their boat went down in Episode 4.) You can learn more about them and see some pretty interesting photos of the family at their official website. Also, do read this article by Zaz Hollander of Alaska Dispatch, who did some investigating into some of the behind-the-scenes aspects of the show that have been debated in these recaps.

At the panel, Billy Brown summed up the origin of his family’s Alaskan adventure as well as how the TV show came into existence:

“I was born in Fort Worth, Texas, and my family died when I was 16, and I kind of hit the road. When Ami and I got together, we traveled all over the place, and we found that as we were going places, we never were really content where we were. We kept getting we’d go to the country, and it wasn’t really enough country. We kept getting deeper and deeper in, and then, when Alaska opened up to us, it was like a it was like a ready made home to us. And when we got up I have written children’s books for my kids and stuff and a book about my life, One Wave at a Time, and our guys went in when you go to the harbor shacks and stuff, we get Internet every once in a while, and our guys went in, Bam especially, and he put a website for the kids’ books. And through that, a guy got in touch with us, and we ended up here. And I am the one that didn’t want to come. …

This is, you know, not what we had planned. We spent 30 years of our lives trying to stay as far away from this kind of stuff as we could, and people. And we discussed it a lot, and I guess … it was Ami that really talked me into it more that we thought it would be cool if people could really see how we live because I don’t think you guys know people who really still live that way, because it’s not a movie. It’s us.”

  6. We love this show really intresting and brown family seem very nice, sweet natured people. My family is intrested in what happen to the family. Please bring show back again, thanks.

  7. Bring this show back! The Browns are a wonderfully self sufficient family who really care about each other! It’s about time a reality show is real!

    • Very disappointed not to have the Browns tonight. Then to my dismay, I see there arent any more episodes taped. WHY?! This show is very original showing us how a family of nine lives a subsistence lifestule. No fighting. No bleeping. So refreshing. Please more Brown family.

  8. I really liked the show. Each person was unique and genuine like a ordinary family. The show did not seem to be scripted.. which makes it more realistic… I wonder why didn’t the discovery channel do their homework and scout that area out prior to the Brown’s relocation. All that hard work. Not to mention them freezing their a……es off during the construction of their suspected new home which never came to be. I get the locals wanted no part of the filming. The producers big mouth in the intro… some people.come here to escape justice.. Really……you put that family in danger its a miracle no.one got killed.. for the boat sinking…Sad very sad… Berrer bring that show back so those folks can make some cash to get back on there feet. Discovery channel pretty much ruined that family

    • Do some research. They are not a poooor bartering .. Victim of the government family. Ur killin me smalls! Buy 1 of their many published 19.99 books if u think they need help.

    • I love this comment and totally agree with the .contents. “More” to the Brown Family!!! Signed Carole L. Parker Colorado Gal

  9. Bring back ABPeople! We don’t need another logging show,
We all ready have Axe men. I like also how every other word isn’t
B#*p. I said, “Bring it Back!!” Now!!!

  10. I believe that this show was something new to explore on reality TV. Its a shame that I could not catch Ep. 4 on demand the day after it aired. I was stumped and demanded that it must be a mistake. When I saw that tonight was the Seberan show, I was completely heart broken. I truly love Alaskan Bush People. It appeals to a lot of individuals whether it be a 9 year old kid understanding the importance of family and unity, or a 60 year old woman fantasizing about a young buff lumberjack appearing at her front door. Honestly this show was one of the reasons I tuned in on Tuesday nights to DISC channel. 🙁 Its tragic that the season ended so abruptly. Please find it in your hearts to bring it back… or pick it up ANIMAL PLANET!

  11. I was sitting here waiting for the Brown family and see they are not on! I have very high hopes that there will be a lot more episodes. The show is great. I really appreciate the fact that every other word isn’t a bleep. Very inspiring. People think they have it rough. Our society is so spoiled and if we had to be “self sufficient” we would not survive. I view it as a learning tool. Thank you for this show and do not end it! Rhonda in Arkansas.

    • OF COURSE WE WOULDN’T SURVIVE, THE PLANET HAS ABOUT NINE TRILLION BILLION OF US ON IT NOW – YOU DUMMY.

  12. PLEASE bring this show back!! I love it and Mountain Men, both great shows!!! Really hate most of the other reality shows, real housewives, big brother, etc!! When shows like Alaska Bush People and Mountain Men come along, they take you back to a much simpler time, family values are important, morals abound, and survival is the key!! People helping people, honesty, and true courage is important…not like other reality shows where looks, drinking, adultery, and screwing over your best friends are the norm!! Not everybody in America want to see stupid people being stupid…we want quality TV and Alaska Bush People IS IT!!!!
