NEW! Is Alaskan Bush People Fake? Does It Matter?
Viewers of Discovery Channel’s Alaskan Bush People have been wondering if the four episodes of the Brown family’s adventures in the wilderness are all they’re going to get. The new show Siberian Cut takes over the Tuesday night time slot and no new episodes of Alaskan Bush People are currently scheduled.
[Update: A new episode of Alaskan Bush People, titled “The Wild Life,” premieres Sunday, June 15, at 10pm ET/PT on Discovery Channel. Based on the show’s description, it sounds like it might be a highlights/recap/additional unaired footage type of show: “After facing unparalleled obstacles, the Browns reflect on their past year of living in the Alaskan Bush while providing surprise revelations about the family’s lifestyle.”
Last seen, the Brown family suffered another setback as the boat they were using to scout a new home in southeast Alaska hit an object, took on water and sank at the dock. The family made it off the boat safely, but were left with an uncertain future.
They can’t possibly let the show end like that, can they?
Well, the news here is that there is no news. According to a Discovery Channel spokesman, the network has not announced whether or not Alaskan Bush People will be returning.
As for the Brown family, all nine of them were in Los Angeles in January for the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour and were on a panel to promote the show, which at the time was scheduled to air on Animal Planet. (So no, they didn’t starve or freeze or anything after their boat went down in Episode 4.) You can learn more about them and see some pretty interesting photos of the family at their official website. Also, do read this article by Zaz Hollander of Alaska Dispatch, who did some investigating into some of the behind-the-scenes aspects of the show that have been debated in these recaps.
At the panel, Billy Brown summed up the origin of his family’s Alaskan adventure as well as how the TV show came into existence:
“I was born in Fort Worth, Texas, and my family died when I was 16, and I kind of hit the road. When Ami and I got together, we traveled all over the place, and we found that as we were going places, we never were really content where we were. We kept getting we’d go to the country, and it wasn’t really enough country. We kept getting deeper and deeper in, and then, when Alaska opened up to us, it was like a it was like a ready made home to us. And when we got up I have written children’s books for my kids and stuff and a book about my life, One Wave at a Time, and our guys went in when you go to the harbor shacks and stuff, we get Internet every once in a while, and our guys went in, Bam especially, and he put a website for the kids’ books. And through that, a guy got in touch with us, and we ended up here. And I am the one that didn’t want to come. …
This is, you know, not what we had planned. We spent 30 years of our lives trying to stay as far away from this kind of stuff as we could, and people. And we discussed it a lot, and I guess … it was Ami that really talked me into it more that we thought it would be cool if people could really see how we live because I don’t think you guys know people who really still live that way, because it’s not a movie. It’s us.”

Last evening I happened to be shifting thru channels and found The Brown Family on The Discovery Channel in the Alaskan Bush People it was interesting, but I too wondered why they stopped shooting and said due to some incident they stopped taping, but never did explain why, the other thing about this was why if they live off the land the pick up a dog can that possibly be ok if they have no shelter, or food other than what they find, how can they take care of a dog too. This left a lot of question marks and didn’t seem to go along with their life style. But it was interesting to the point where I watched that episode over just in case I missed something the first time, and the second time they showed the bear going thru the camp, and then them making a table and setting area which was rather rattling, now with what people are saying not sure I will ever see what happened to them. But it did spark a lot of interest by a lot of different people. Wish people were as interested in what their Senators and Congress people were doing to the lower 48 just for money from the super rich. Wish we could send them to the bush and have some realistic people around. Please let us know what happened to the Browns and the Bears. Also nice not to hear swearing and all the fowl language that most shows feel they need. This is something children can watch with the whole family. At least when they kill an animal it is used in full not for pleasure, but for substance. If they need food then they hunt for it and eat well. Good luck and hope they find a new station that will pick them up, can’t imagine them in California had to be a real culture shock for all. Thanks for letting me rant. BC
In the episode I just watched it stated ” —— during the filming an incident occurred and filming was stopped.” I want to know what type of an incident could possibly cause them to stop filming? Was someone mauled or did the filming crew record something they shouldn’t? Pretty pathetic explanation!!!!!!
WOuld like answer to what happened Alaskan Bush People last hanging episode where there was an incident that caused filming to stop and will it be continued next season.
Firearms and wildlife violations documented.
we love it they seem like real people please keep coming
I’m a woman 86 yrs old and the Alaskan Bush People are the best. I look forward to seeing their live real or not. Better than the movies now adays and stupid programs that show alot of sex, and violence. (Which is not entertaining)
Its so refreshing to see how they live, all get along and do things together.(pretty normal family I must say) Even if its fake,
I love it anyway, can’t wait for this program to return.
PS I especially love that there’s no cussing, which is not necessary
to get your point across.
It figures, there is a show on that my family really enjoys and then there are no new episodes.
Regardless of whether or not the Browns are truly “Bush People”, is irrelevant ! They represent a small subset of folks who truly live this way, and even if they are paid or incentivized in some way to show what the lifestyle is like, so what! How is that any different than any other kind of television form of entertainment, whether real or not! Lets face it, we all watch television and seek technological forms of entertainment, otherwise, you wouldnt be reading this post, lack of internet access would prohibit it. This is one of the best reality shows on TV. I hope you don’t lose them to another network, because The Brown’s, and what they represent, whether real, exaggerated, or fake, are what many Americans secretly wish they were, free from the day to day burdens of modern society. True, modern society has its benefits, but it has it’s drawbacks too.. There is a certain appeal to not having to conform to the rules of society that most of us live in. Gold Rush, Bearing Sea Gold, and Deadliest Catch, are some of the best entertaining shows on TV, besides Shameless, on Showtime, only because those writers never cease to amaze me! We can’t wait for it to continue. Don’t listen to the ASSHOLES, that say its fake or derogatory comments about the show. I love the fact that they left this rat race we are all in, Real or not!
Irrelevant? So what? Rat Race? The bottom line is this: severe firearms and game violations, squatting, theft, fraud, and felonies. You cannot justify the theft of public land nor the theft of private land simply because you occupy it and claim it’s yours! How would you like if they landed in your backyard, which you paid for or inherited, and pay taxes on, with the claim that it’s suddenly now theirs simply because they occupy it. Intellectually honest people don’t dislike them because they’re phony, common, or whatever; they’re disliked because they’re obviously parasitic thieves and criminals attempting to steal from others wherever they go. By the way, I would say that puts them squarely in the middle of the “rat race,” with the other rats. Vermin is vermin wherever you go. You cannot compare them to the other shows simply because the participants in the other shows do things legally. You need to checkout the writings of the people they’ve hurt! And, let’s see how quick you insist upon the “rules of society” when it involves one of your children as a victim! Don’t be sophomoric hypocrites!
mary I like the way you think, deadliest catch is full of honest hard working people, todd hofman is a boob but honest and hard working, I respect him and the goldrush crew because they follow the law, there is the kilcher family, also honest hard working and they prepare for everything, if gullible people watch those shows they may understand taking their own family into a harsh lifestyle like that is not wise, however the browns and discovery team let truly stupid morons think endangering their own family is o.k., some 100 year old alsheimers woman cant pull her loved ones to Alaska in winter to die, the message the truly stupid get from the browns is no need to prepare for winter (remember the trapper cabin would save them, now they know why trapper cabins are empty in winter), when an idiot in florida thinks saranwrap makes a fine dwelling, as taught by the browns, and Alaskans fish without tackle, (just splash fish from the water), the usda National Forest system is free land to squat on, (lucky our national forests are so pretty), game and fish are for the taking year round (the other Alaskans fill their freezers as hunting seasons allow, why), true Alaskans share oil dividends among themselves, they don’t get a share if they are away for more than half year, so the browns are not given that money , they steal it. teach your children to admire the browns and your kids can grow up as lowlife parasites themselves, but don’t be shocked your setting such a low bar, results in lowlifes, and as you save bailmoney for them(oh yeah, lowlifes don’t save money, they buy fonzie jackets)
Please bring back the bush people the Brown I love whiching them I even have my 8 year old grandson whiching it with me so please bring them back
Just keep the Browns on. We all have day to day lives I hope to see some of those guys get to meet their future wives and general living off the land is interesting to our family .
one son found the future wife you speak of, but the show got moved to hoonah and billy made him leave her behind, if I had a son as strange as those I would never hinder his future for a t.v. show, so the family first message seems produced for ratings, and Alaska has tons of law enforcement to stop their type of living off that particular land.
most if not all reality shows are fake! if you take this one off take all them off, they all suck!!!! atleast the brown family was the most watchable. mick dodge duck dynasty all the house wives storage war all reality show need to go! the brown family was the best you had discovery ch,
please do not take the show off the air some of the negative comments made were by little punks, to young to appreciate how real men an women lived. discovery you know you guys come up with the shows other channels too afraid or stupid to produce keep up the good work I look forward to many more next episodes. thanks phil
It amazes me that there clothes are always clean, and for being ( bush people) being away from civilization they sure want to be noticed. How do they keep track of technology? E-mail facebook ect? Without power? They must go to town everyday, some kinda of bush people you are a loser billy brown. If it wasn’t for this show you wouldn’t have a pot to piss in just like before this stupid show you had nothing you loser billy brown. You are a piece of shit!!!!!!!
They were entertaining while it lasted. I assume the actual production concluded long ago and the cast , family or not, moved on to other things. Living wild in Alaska on a float house is something thats appealing to me. Even if it was part time. I wish the cast bon voyage in their lives. And thanks for the insite. Stephen
I love the Alaskan Bush People. It makes you realize how much we take for granted. It also gives us an in-depth look at just how difficult everyday life can be and the many challanges when you live so far from society. I hope
you will continue this series.
Love the show it has to come back we need to know how they are doing.
I absolutely love this show. It is a refreshing break from the negative reality shows usually aired on television. Please bring the show back. The family is amazing!!!!!!!
Please bring alaskan bush people back they are amazing and the only thing I watch please bring them back to us.
bring them back best show since bonanza my whole family enjoyed them I cant believe there off you get a really good show then they take it off
Bring the show back on. It is one of y favorites and a whole lot better than most of the other programs on.
We need a lot more of the Brown family, I would like to see them on three or four times a week. I didn’t get to see them move into their final home or if it was finished.
To The Producers/Directors of American Bush People :
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE keep this show coming!!!!
I don’t watch many reality shows at all, but I CANNOT WAIT EACH FRIDAY NIGHT TO SEE THIS SHOW!!! I would love it if it were a two hour show every week!! I would LOVE to go up there and help these guys, but I know they probably wouldn’t take to strangers interfering, still, would LOVE it if possible!
Please, continue the show guys! This is sooooo therapeutic for me, and about 20 people I work with!!!
Thanks,

I agree with you 100 percent! I haven’t enjoyed a reality show this much before. As I seem to have a newly found interest in all things Alaska, this one fits the bill. The whole family can watch it. The kids have been taught to be self-sufficient yet appreciate each other for the teamwork that’s required to survive in the wild. Each seems to have their own talents they contribute to the family. There seems to be some innocence there, as well, and genuine affection which is refreshing to see on t.v. I watch because I’m fascinated with their lifestyle, how they overcome obstacles, and I’ll continue to tune in because, heck, they’re all so likable.
One more thing, I’m concerned that Ami did not complete her dental work. She absolutely must. Abscessed teeth leads to heart disease or blood poisoning. It bothered me, I have to admit, that the kids praised their mom for taking her antibiotics and moving on. I don’t think they know what a reality it is–dying from rotting teeth. Can’t blame them for not knowing, but can’t someone convince the woman to have the bad ones removed? It’s pure poison in the system. Ami should do it. If not for herself, for her family. I wish them the best.
Wow, Ryan I didn’t even know this thread existed till you put that link up on the latest recap. When you write a new recap I just go on to the new one and never look back. Looks like by the number of comments, this is where the action is. Funny part is when I breeze through the comments on here, there might be more fawning over the Browns here then on their own Facebook page. I had no idea you were running such a fan site. 🙂
Please Ryan, please, keep the Browns on! We love them! Please save them and bring them back!
Oh, yeah. Go figure that the cheapest, lamest ABP blog post would be the most popular.
That is what is funny about life, you don’t know what is going to strike gold. At the rate your going they might have to just put up a link from the Facebook page to here. I think we are close to ABP reaching the status of a boy band with pre-teen girls for their fans. Throw logic out the window and “WE LOVE YOU!”. I can only hope these fans are a bit more rational in their real lives. ABP isn’t like it is fake but fantastic, it terrible, slow and boring. I just don’t understand it.
the boy band status is the dangerous part, you think the parents of the teen girl killed with grizzleyman, see this show as harmless fanboying, or the thing innocent girls like their daughter(rest in peace young lady), fell for, the guy who sent grizzleyman to his death may be free, and grizzleyman and that girl may be dead but after that or the papa pilgrim debacle, discovery channel is gonna get some ABP fan killed
