NEW! Is Alaskan Bush People Fake? Does It Matter?

Viewers of Discovery Channel’s Alaskan Bush People have been wondering if the four episodes of the Brown family’s adventures in the wilderness are all they’re going to get. The new show Siberian Cut takes over the Tuesday night time slot and no new episodes of Alaskan Bush People are currently scheduled.

[Update: A new episode of Alaskan Bush People, titled “The Wild Life,” premieres Sunday, June 15, at 10pm ET/PT on Discovery Channel. Based on the show’s description, it sounds like it might be a highlights/recap/additional unaired footage type of show: “After facing unparalleled obstacles, the Browns reflect on their past year of living in the Alaskan Bush while providing surprise revelations about the family’s lifestyle.”

Last seen, the Brown family suffered another setback as the boat they were using to scout a new home in southeast Alaska hit an object, took on water and sank at the dock. The family made it off the boat safely, but were left with an uncertain future.

They can’t possibly let the show end like that, can they?

Well, the news here is that there is no news. According to a Discovery Channel spokesman, the network has not announced whether or not Alaskan Bush People will be returning.

As for the Brown family, all nine of them were in Los Angeles in January for the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour and were on a panel to promote the show, which at the time was scheduled to air on Animal Planet. (So no, they didn’t starve or freeze or anything after their boat went down in Episode 4.) You can learn more about them and see some pretty interesting photos of the family at their official website. Also, do read this article by Zaz Hollander of Alaska Dispatch, who did some investigating into some of the behind-the-scenes aspects of the show that have been debated in these recaps.

At the panel, Billy Brown summed up the origin of his family’s Alaskan adventure as well as how the TV show came into existence:

“I was born in Fort Worth, Texas, and my family died when I was 16, and I kind of hit the road. When Ami and I got together, we traveled all over the place, and we found that as we were going places, we never were really content where we were. We kept getting we’d go to the country, and it wasn’t really enough country. We kept getting deeper and deeper in, and then, when Alaska opened up to us, it was like a it was like a ready made home to us. And when we got up I have written children’s books for my kids and stuff and a book about my life, One Wave at a Time, and our guys went in when you go to the harbor shacks and stuff, we get Internet every once in a while, and our guys went in, Bam especially, and he put a website for the kids’ books. And through that, a guy got in touch with us, and we ended up here. And I am the one that didn’t want to come. …

This is, you know, not what we had planned. We spent 30 years of our lives trying to stay as far away from this kind of stuff as we could, and people. And we discussed it a lot, and I guess … it was Ami that really talked me into it more that we thought it would be cool if people could really see how we live because I don’t think you guys know people who really still live that way, because it’s not a movie. It’s us.”

  1. Please bring back the Alaskan Bush People,Some say it is fake,I don’t care,I just know that on Friday nights, you could find me in the bush, living the simple things in life that God gave us. Waiting for a quick return.

  2. Are whole family love the brown family we miss the show it’s a good family show and there is not many left.

  3. Love the show. So nice to see a family who works and co-operates with each other to improve their life and family. Non of the nonsense of some shows . No bad language, nudity,
and trying to injure each other as so many other shows do. From a family of 13 and I can certainly identify with them although I grew up in a total middle class family without the terrific hardships this family faces with grace and willingness to help each other. A very refreshing outlook for a TV program. Looking forward to seeing more.

  4. My husband and I love the Brown Family. We are very upset that we got hooked on the show and now it is cancelled. We are mad at you.

  5. As you can see from the comments above, there are a LOT of people/families who watch the Alaskan Bush People. I have not seen a definite post that says their show has been canceled, but the evidence is starting to be overwhelming. If the Discovery Channel, in their itty-bitty mind thinks that the show shows cruelty to animals, or that it exploits children, or some other Dumb thing the world can come up with, you have missed the mark completely. I for one am hoping that another network will pick them up, dust them off, and continue providing GREAT family viewing. This is yet another reason for the silent majority to finally stand up and say, “ENOUGH”! Get this country back to where we need to be.

  6. I can’t believe that u took Alaskan bush people off I guess I won’t be watching discovery any more people get into the show and u just decide to stop it

    • I agree with Ken, “ENOUGH is ENOUGH!!! Alaskan Bush people is a wholesome and family oriented show. Apparently Alaskan Bush was viewed by many. So, my question to the Discovery network, “why?”

  7. Bring them back! It was one of the shows our family could watch together. We loved the Brown Family! It was entertaining and we looked forward to seeing the continued lives and adventures as the family grew.

  8. This is an outrage i can’t believe this. We watch this every week they have so many other shows they should get rid of.

  9. “WOW THAT WAS A MISSTAKE TO CANNCEL THE ALASKAN BUSH PEOPLE ON THE TV IT WAS ADVENTURE- PASSON- TEACHING OF HOW TO SURVIVE IN THE WOODS OF ALASKA SAD EVEN THE PRESADENT OF THE UNITED STATES WATCHES THAT AND YOU LET ALOT OF PEOPLE DOWN IN TAKING THE SHOW OFF THE TELAVISION MAYBE THE STOCKS OF THE DISCOVERY CHANNEL ARE WORTH LESS THAT I HAVE

  10. My wife and I look forward to watching the Browns up in Alaska. The Browns family has
a lot of heart. If you want to cancel a show, cancel “Naked and Afraid” That is the dumbest
show” shown on t v. Really, who in their right mind wants to look at some hairy a_ _ as
he is climbing up a tree. Who wrote the script for that – Charles Manson. Shame on you
guys if you cancel the Browns. And, God Bless the Browns Family.

  11. Can you guys please bring this show back! My husband and I love this show. Cancel naked and afraid. Such a ridiculous show. About time discovery had a show that a family can sit and watch together without having nudity! What do we as fans have to do to get this show back?????!!

  12. What happened to Alaska bush people? Why would you consider replacing this show?
We love it I record it & then on the weekend my husband & I watch it, come on, is it because there’s no sex on it no one’s cheating on each other???
Really it’s a wholesome show very entertaining, it’s about family!
There are a few new shows coming on and their everything but family oriented.
You guys are the pros so please figure out who to take off so they are brought back. THANKS!

    • Please don’t cancel the
alaskan Bush People. That was the best show on TV.
I loved the show and watched it every time it came on
even if it was a re-run. Take off some of the other shows,
they’re not as interesting as the Browns. We haven’t got
to see the boys get married and make the Brownville
      homes.
      Thanks

  13. My mom is 93we like the show an it makes over night to wach the show we can’t go out she has health problems so we wach tv

  14. PLEASE DISCOVERY CHANNEL BRING THE ALASKAN BUSH PEOPLE BACK!!!! I LOVE THIS SHOW!! I COULDN’T WAIT FOR THE NEXT EPISODE!! THIS IS A GOOD AND EXCITING SHOW. HOW COULD YOU TAKE IT OFF THE AIR. THERE IS ENOUGH BULLSH*T SHOWS ON THE AIR AS IT IS. I WAS WONDERING WHAT HAPPEN BECAUSE I RECORD ALL THE SHOWS AND THERE HAVEN’T BEEN ANY NEW EPISODES RECORDED. I DON’T THINK THE ALASKAN BUSH PEOPLE ARE FAKE AND WHY SOME PEOPLE WOULD THINK THAT IS JUST STUPID!! ALL THESE DUMB ASS HOLLYWOOD REALITY SHOWS ARE FAKE, WITH ALL THE MAKEUP DRAMA AND CUSSING!! I DON’T WATCH THOSE CRAPPY SHOWS!! I THINK A LOT OF PEOPLE FEEL THE SAME WAY I DO ABOUT THIS SHOW. PLEASE BRING IT BACK!!!!! THE ALASKAN BUSH PEOPLE IS MY FAVORITE SHOW AND I HAVE TO ADMIT I’M REALLY SAD, ANGRY AND HURT THAT THE DISCOVERY CHANNEL WOULD TAKE IT OFF THE AIR. I LOVE MY ALASKAN BUSH PEOPLE, ALL NINE OF THEM AND THE DOG TOO!!!!

  15. I agree with the person above. TV is bad and this show is very interesting . They have a business going and I want to see them succeed. I hope they want to continue with filming. I know it,s an intrusion on their life, but I enjoy watching it.

  16. I enjoy this show a great deal. A lot said as I make shows. But the future growth of the family and “BrownTown” will depend on which members leave the clan to find mates. No mates – no growth. It is highly unlikely that a sufficient number of outside men and women (boys and girls?) will travel to their compound for the purposes of residency and procreation. The only option for growth would occur when some family members leave the group and return with like-minded spouses. Not the worst way to go but then how could you watch ABP?

  17. There is not a lot to see on tv any more and The Alaskan Bush People helped make it a lot more worthwhile to sit down and turn the set on. I sure hope you continue with the series for my sake and my wife’s and I am sure there many others who will agree. Thanks for allowing me to comment.

  18. PLEASE, PLEASE KEEP “THE BUSH PEOPLE” SHOW ON!! It is MY VERY FAVORITE SHOW and I looked forward to Friday nights to watch them. BRING THEM BACK – PLEASE!!!

    • The Brewster Family is looking forward to hearing how the Alaskan Bush family the Browns are doing with their delivery service with their boat Interigity. Please keep the story going.

    • Bring them back. they are down to earth good people.now that we have invaded on their life’s they are planted in ours. I think everyone needs and yearns for innocences and simplicity in this fast raging World and they were just that.

      • My husband & I really enjoy watching this show, and was waiting for it’s return. In this world today , there isn’t much on TV fit to watch. This is one show that you can watch with children or other people and know that you won’t be embarrassed. It is a good wholesome show. BRING IT BACK>
